Claudia Cummings will do anything to keep her family’s plantation from falling into her greedy cousin’s hands – even going as far as accepting a business arrangement – a marriage in name only. However, she must make her family and friends believe she and Blake are happily married. Now the trick is trying to stop her heart from getting involved.
Pinkerton Agent, Blake Bentley, has been ignoring his superior’s telegrams about training a female agent as most of the other agents were doing. Of course, Blake would have to marry the woman, which is something he never thought he’d do. But when tracking his latest criminal, he meets the very impudent and extremely lovely Miss Cummings, he quickly changes his mind about marriage. Besides, she would be able to help him catch his thief, as long as she doesn’t try to catch his heart, as well.
What's not to love about another fabulous story in The Pinkerton Matchmaker series! I have enjoyed every one I have read and Marie Higgins has done it again with her detail for amazing characters and an intriguing storyline that kept me hooked until the end! Claudia was a desperate southern belle needing to find a suitable husband so she could save her planation. But she loathed her second cousin who was determined to make her marry him so he could get his hands on the money and she was desperate. But then it seems fate brings an answer with Pinkerton Agent, Blake Bentley who is trying to track down a thief and comes in contact with Claudia. She agrees to marry him in name only and become an investigator as is the norm for a new female agent, but soon that pretense may become real! Loved these too, especially the southern belle since I am from Georgia! Immerse yourself in this delightful tale and find yourself smiling at the end!
An Agent for Claudia by Marie Higgins is the first Pinkerton Matchmaker book I have read, however, since it is book 27 I have a lot of catching up to do! I loved the details for the characters and the wonderful story that kept me interested and turning the pages to see what happens next. This is an enjoyable story with some plot twists and a gentle romance.
Another fun read from Higgins. I think I liked her other two Pinkerton agent books better. But I still enjoyed this latest one. Claudia is the new owner of her families plantation. Her cousin is desperate to get his hands on the plantation. What better way to do this but to marry Claudia. But Claudia can’t stand her deceitful cousin, Phillip. Phillip is good at charming everyone but Claudia. He convinces Claudia’s grandmother that Claudia should marry him. Claudia in trying to find other solutions for the reasons her grandmother wants her to marry convinces Blake to enter into a business arrangement. This arrangement is a marriage in name only for various reasons. Blake doesn’t want to error down. Claudia has a soldier she is still waiting for. Neither of them thought that a real marriage with each other is what they were looking for. Things are not all what they seem. There are a few surprises in the book. I love the steam Higgins adds to her book. However, while this book stays clean I was a bit surprised that Claudia allowed this man who is a bit of a rogue to be so passionate with her.
I was excited for this storyline. There was so much potential. Unfortunately, the execution didn't live up to my hopes. Claudia is a Southern Belle trying to keep the plantation away from her greedy cousin. Blake is an undercover Pinkerton looking into Jewelry thefts. Super interesting, but.... No Southern Belle would ever converse with a man in her bedroom at night, in her nightgown and wrap! It's highly doubtful all those kisses would be allowed without a formal engagement either. And this cad of an agent does not live up to the previously stated Pinkerton code of ethics. He's hoping to have his friend PRETEND to marry them. But, he would also have been fine anticipating their (fake) vows if she would have allowed it. Just wow. The rest of the book in this series are so well written and follow the standards of the day. But this is ridiculous. I like that the author is coming up with different ideas within the series premise. But, each of her stories is getting more risque. I thought the whole idea of the series was to have the couples married BEFORE they set out to solve the crimes.....
When Claudia needs to get married to save her plantation he knows one thing, she doesn’t want to marry her creepy cousin. When Blake shows up at her birthday party they decide for a marriage of convenience so she can keep her plantation and he can do his duty as a Pinkerton Agent with her help. But not everyone is happy about that. Can they find a HEA and solve they crime? This book in the series is different from the others. It is really entertaining and has some twists and turns before it concludes in a HEA. I really enjoyed it, and it has some swoon worthy kisses 💋.
A sweet and clean historical novel involving a Pinkerton agent under disguise to solve jewelry thievery. Coming across Claudia whose repulsive cousin keeps pressing her for marriage to inherit her plantation for illicit means, they soon discover more. What starts out as an invitation to a fake marriage in order for Claudia to be trained as a Pinkerton agent, develops into an attraction as they try to thwart danger. For those who enjoy a well-written novel with a surprise ending, this one is for you!
Does Marie write anything that is not super-duper? Not that I have found. This is another book in the Pinkerton series that I loved. The ending, again, was not anticipated but great! I really do love her writing. Each book is twisted differently which makes her writing new with each book. You shouldn't be disappointed with this book or any of hers. I received an ARC of this book. This is my honest, voluntary review.
Oh how I love this book! Claudia is such a smart, beautiful determined woman. I love how she stands up to her cousin and yet how naive she is about love. Packed full of action and romance keeping the reader fully immersed in the story. I think this is probably my favorite of all the Pinkerton series. The plot twist and turns and throws surprises up until the very end! Fantastic read!
Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
Marie Higgins has struck again with a sassy, headstrong heroine that will you will want to cheer for and her bloke whose not far behind. A story full of mystery, suspense, intrigue and a touch of sorrow. You will not want to to put this down until your have finished it. Fantastic. I received this as an arc and I am giving my honest review voluntarily
Claudia wants to save her plantation. Blake wants to catch a jewel thief. Marie Higgins has done her usual magic and written a story with an interesting plot and characters, romance and more than a few twists. It was a pleasure to read this book. I do hope that perhaps there will be a story later about a partner for Vincent, perhaps Frances.
This series of Pinkerton Matchmakers is so fun. I think this is my new favorite of the series so far. I love the southern charm of the Charleston belle in this story. And the mystery has plenty of twists and turns that kept it interesting and kept me glued to the book way past my bedtime. I like not knowing what is going to happen next.
Wonderful book in the Pinkerton Matchmaker tradition, with classic Marie Higgins twists and turns. Romance, kisses, stolen jewels, devious plots, murderers, deceitful family members and adventure all in one fabulous story.
This was a little different than the other books I've read in this series, but I still loved it. Blake and Claudia have great instant chemistry. As is normal for Marie Higgins there are plenty of twists to keep you guessing til the end.
Exciting Pinkerton romance. So many unexpected developments in the story. Suspenseful and entertaining. I couldn't put it down! I love this series and Marie Higgins doesn't disappoint.
All Claudia's cousin wanted was for the South to rise again and she had everything he wanted. Follow along this good storyline with twists and turns galore, with a surprise ending.
Ah! Blake and Claudia fight love every step of the way and are definitely the last to realise they have fallen for each other! An entertaining, sweet, slightly steamy romance with a twist you would never have expected. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
Throughly enjoyable. Passion without details. Very well done and with a surprise ending. Good clean romance and I look forward to reading more of her books.
The story lines were fine and held my attention All the suspense, twists and turns just seemed to come naturally. An engaging story with an amazing cast of unpredictable characters
Sweet yet passionate Historical Romance Aug 15, 2020 5 stars I loved how this one broke the mold, and how their marriage was performed. I'm looking forward to Chaplain Brooks' book as well!
