The Talbot clan has settled in to life at Etna Station.Mike has earned the rank of Lieutenant, but there’s no time to rest. Colonel Bennington has ordered Mike and his squad of misfits on a secretive mission to New York City where they are tasked to complete a complicated rescue that rapidly becomes nearly impossible to accomplish.Cut off from all support, they face what may be the single most dangerous threat to all mankind as a super predator emerges from the rubble of the once vibrant city, now a broken shadow of its former self. As their mission becomes more covert and questionable than they had originally been told, Mike, BT, Gambo and their team are forced to choose between the security of their families and what’s best for Humanity. Will they succeed in what must be done? Or will they fall along the way as their ever-adapting, quickly evolving zombie enemies press the attack?
This was a great story...and I love that all the doggies are now in the books...and we found TRIP!! Every time I listen to Mark's work, it makes me smile, cry and curse....that has to say something right? As usual Sean Runnette nails it!! Sean is the ONLY Mike Talbot...Another Winner in the Talbotverse!!! FANTASTIC!! I NEED MORE!!!
I do enjoy this series, which I’m reading concurrently with Demon Fallout, switching between the two as I await more additions to both of the series. In the beginning i think there might be a time jump, as I feel that I’ve perhaps missed ZF 11.5 or something, but it’s nothing that bogs the reader down.
I give this book three stars; I give the entire series a 4.5. Three stars, for me, means this book is good, it was worth the investment of time in reading it, and I don’t regret buying it brand new for full price. Trust me; if you know me then you would know that’s a rarity. I would have given it four stars—I rarely use 5 stars and am reviewing old reviews to ensure I rarely used it as a five star book should be damn near nirvana—but as I just mentioned, I feel there were some chunks missing. Though I trust in the author as he generally covers lost ground eventually and characters and their subplots come and go freely. I actually rather enjoy that; it makes the series less predictable than most PA/ZA fiction.
This book is well done, covered a lot of ground, and left me awaiting the next book just as Tufo always does. The author writes likable characters and tells a good story. I do wish we would see more of Denaux, Gambo, Talbot’s sons and i wish Tommy were elevated to the more important status he had in the first few books. I get that there are a couple dozen characters at any given time and, just like a TV series, only so many can be involved at a time. I like that Tufo doesn’t trivialize them by giving characters “cameo” scenes. We may not see Justin, for example, other than a brief mention that he’s holding down the fort. But when Tufo does circle back to him, it’s done organically and it’s worth the wait. I hope that makes sense. I’ve seen other authors throw a “pity scene” to an underused character and it’s kind of insulting. This author doesn’t do that; the way they are woven in and out flows naturally.
If you’re a Talbot fan, you’ll love this book.
If you enjoyed ZF 1-11, this is a solid addition and stronger than others in the series. Get it. Read it. Review it.
If you’re new to Mike Talbot and ZF, you’ll have some questions about what’s going on if you start with this book. But if you start reading or watching something eleven parts into it, you’ll have questions. Don’t do that. I highly advise reading the first eleven books before this one. It’s the Fourth of July, you’re off work today, make it so.
It’s a fun ride and this author doesn’t spend half the book blatantly rehashing the prior book. Consider this a really, really big chapter in the Book of Talbot.
Also wanted to note the Talbotsodes were the best we’ve been given in a long time. No slight meant to the author, but most in the past just weren’t my cup of tea. Worth reading but more like they were intended to be—anecdotes or snippets of the author/character’s life. The episodes in this book were great and had me wishing for more.
TL;DR: read this series. A good tale and features a narrator with a unique voice.
I am a Michael Talbot lover and have read about all his lives in the different worlds, so was expecting this to be another great addition. The main gist of this book is for Michael and his gang to make it through a zombie infested area. This is part of every book, but it is only p-a-r-t of those books. There is usually a big story arch where new challenges arise and many new characters are met along the way. Not in this one.
This book was actually way too wordy. It seemed as though Mr. Tufo had to meet a deadline for another book to be finished and since he only had this segment decided to find places to beef it up so he could turn it in to his publisher. I listen to the audiobooks (narrator is fantabulous!), but I had to rewind a number of times because I found my mind drifting. All those words didn’t really have much to say. This book should have been edited down to 1/3 its size and then have been a segue to the main chunk of the story.
The only redeeming parts of this were the short stories at the end. They were the typical enjoyable Mark Tufo fare.
Mark Tufo continues to deliver with Zombie Fallout 12: Dog Dayz. I’ve read every book in the series, and this one quickly became a favorite. The new militarized theme adds a fresh edge to the storyline, and I loved seeing what kind of chaos Mike and BT would get themselves into this time and the banter between them. I wished that more of my leadership in the military was like Mike and BT.
This installment feels like it's truly ramping up the overarching plot more than the last few entries, with real momentum behind the story. Their arrival at Etna Station feels like a rare moment of respite in a world that’s otherwise relentlessly brutal, though, as always, peace is short-lived in Tufo's universe I am guessing.
The ending packs a punch and will leave long-time fans more than ready for the next chapter. I can’t wait to dive in!
keep reading these books because, in the beginning, I loved this series. Unfortunately, Mark Tufo has fallen in the same boat as George RR Martin. In that, he writes all these other books instead of finishing a series and then moving on.
Even when he does write a book he doesn't touch on charters for many books and we are left wondering what happened there.
This book was a filler book in my opinion. It had too much about his love for these stupid dogs. I am an extreme dog person but not to the point where I am going to risk a group of people's lives for strangers dogs.
There were a few important changes here which were more frustrating because I wanted to read about that than the dogs.
The Talbot family has integrated into their new sedate life in Etna Station with new jobs and a semblance of calm. Mike, BT, Tommy, Garry and Winters are given military ranks and are sent around the country on terrible missions from the increasingly tense Commanding Officer - Colonel Bennington. It becomes evident that there is more nefarious things happening in the background than the calmness presents and the king zombie Dewy demonstrates the newest evil adaptation of the zombies.
In a side story Mike ends up getting more dogs which is truely the best part of this book. Mrs Deneaux continues her awful ways snaking her way into everything she can.
Another fun-tastic sequel in the Zombie Fallout series. The interaction between all the characters, major (no pun intended) and minor, is always interesting, entertaining, humorous and, in some cases, complex. This book has Mike Talbot a little more subdued, a little more introspective than usual, but his character is still funny as hell. (He and BT are as hilarious as Abbott and Costello, Laurel and Hardy, the Three Stooges, and the Marx Brothers rolled into one, or two as the case in point!) As always, I am looking forward to the next book in the series. So, Tufo, start writing it if you haven't already begun!
Definitely one of my favorite series! I listened to the audiobook version, and as with the others, it's performed brilliantly by Sean Runnette (I know all those character's voices so well now.) Great characters, great story, and lots of funny lines that will have you laughing out loud.
Not all is happy news though. At the end there were over 2 hours of short stories. It was a disappointment to find out that the main story was actually that much shorter than I was expecting. So, it was the shortest book in the series by far, but still worthy enough to rate one of my few 5-star reviews. I'm already looking forward to the next installment -- hopefully a longer one.
I can never get enough of this Author and Michael Talbot. The character has so much humor at the strangest times, but it fits and makes it special! Mike is still trying to keep his family safe, and defeat the zombies. Worlds collide a bit in this book and I love it. Did Mike find a new ally or will this presence bring more problems. Loved it and cannot wait for more adventures!
A great one. I love the way that this series is written. Mark Tufo writes where you can imagine yourself right next to Talbot and BT. I love that when I read this series I get action and fun all at the same time. The adventures of Talbot are enjoyable and witty. I always find myself wondering what adventures the characters are gonna find themselves in next.
I don't think this book was written well. I found the flow choppy. When I finally got into the novel Mr. Tufo wrote about an area he didn't know of or was lazy. A carnival on the beach in Brooklyn or Queens? There are many villages on Long Island so, how Talbert found the correct Crescent street is beyond me. I find that distracting. I was disappointed in this book.
That’s about all I can say right now…just wow. Things went very south in the beginning, more bad things tear the group apart… Part of them make it to Etna, part is missing, presumed dead. The guys are now officially soldiers in what is left of the armed forces. A mission to NYC, poop occurs, Yada, yada, yada, I’m not spilling any beans here. Way to go Mark with those twists at the end…Eric, Trip, OM and BT…where are you taking us? Can’t wait to find out!
If you have never read any of the Zombie Fallout series by Mark Tufo, stop what you are doing and go buy book 1 and buckle up for a helluva ride! You can look forward to action, adventure, comedy, a smidge of romance & some blood and guts...what more would you ever want in a zombie book?!
Mark Tufo has the perfect combination for a zombie series! Gross outs, laughter, smart asses, love, dogs, and characters we love! This series is a favorite of mine. The characters are like family, the zombies are scary, and getting smarter! My coworker could not believe the laughing I was doing, was from a zombie book. I told him he needed to pick up any book from Mark and he’d understand.
Since book 1, I was hooked. It keeps you on the edge never knowing what would happen. Its the “Walking Dead” plus. The characters come alive and draws you in. Then add in va life’s and you never know what else will appear. There is also humor thrown in. Love these books.
Best one yet!!!!!! Expect more bulldogs, a Trip, The Trip!!! A bomb, and puddle pirates! As always, I can't wait for the next one. Hurry up with the next book please.
Mark Tufo has done it again. Another great read, more laughs, more sadness & more thrills. I can’t wait for the next book in the series. I need to know what happens next. This is a great book, but don’t take my word for it....READ IT.
I love Tufos books but this one is not at the top of my list. The whole vampire with magic thing just didn’t sit well with me. Still gotta love that Tripp and Steph are back.
Another good read by Mark Tufo, The banter between the characters almost always gives me a good laugh. They head into New York on a mission. more zombies, smarter zombies. I enjoy all the books and look forward to more
This may be my least favorite of all of the series so far, not enough of the good and too much crap with people I care nothing about. Got excited with the ending though! Still really good book - just my least favorite of them. On to the next!
I love Zombie Fallout and I love Mike - you know, "what would Mike do?" - but this wasn't quite on a par with some of the other books. The dialogue between Mike and his buddies seemed a little stilted at times but I still enjoyed another romp through Zombie Fallout!
This book was full of intensity, Talbot humor, laughter, pups and stress but we find a beloved character at the end. This book had so much out of worldly stuff going on you almost forget this is a zombie book. Freaking love it.
Yep This series just keeps getting better imo. I love the characters, even the bad ones, they all round out the storylines perfectly and are so entertaining. I am not sure who my favorite character is as all of them are really well written. I hope you all enjoy this series.
