Cursed #2.5

Adversity

Rate this book
Kali is the seventh of seventh, both blessed and cursed. With a father willing to sell her, and a life already mapped out for her, she’s desperate for an escape. But her way out can only come from the most unavailable person she knows, and stealing happiness comes with a price that many generations will bear.

Amelia’s haunted by disturbingly vivid dreams about a gypsy girl but ignored by everyone else in her life. She’s desperate to prove herself. To show everyone she can help. So when her brother and best friend display the influence of the curse on their free will—or lack of it—and a spirit warns of Perdita’s fast approaching death, she knows she has to do something. Yet she can’t ignore that something huge is happening to her too, and her journey leads her back to where it all began, but not everyone wants her help, after all.

This book is not a new story in the "Cursed" series, but it is showing Amelias point of view in Clarity as well as describing her dreams. The intent might have been to show Amelias struggle for identity and her spot in the family, but instead she comes across as a whining, spoiled, annoying brat. The parts about Kali were quite nice, and I kept waiting for them and rushing through the parts about Amelia. I really struggled to get through this book, and have basically wasted the last two days in doing so. I will try to get through the whole series, but right now I can't promise anything. I don't like to abandon a series midway, but as it is now I'm not sure it's worth the time or effort.

This book and the 2nd book could have been combined. Take out some of Nathan's POVs and insert Amelia's with the dreams. It would have made the build up to the ending of book two a bit better.

Overall this series has been a solid 2.5 stars. Not great but interesting.

This book is a disappointment compared to the others in the series. There are no new events whatsoever. It merely goes through them all again from the perspective of Amelia, the youngest and most annoying character. And any earlier abandonment of the awful tropes of the genres that the series draws on ends here. Amelia gets everything wrong. Not occasional misunderstanding, but everything. I honestly couldn't bring myself to care about her feelings, which means that whatever care I had developed for her in previous books was lost in this one. It's not even worth it for the traces of new information about the family's origin that ultimately come out of the book by the end. I only stuck with it in the hopes that the other family members would come into it more again, the characters that I still cared about from the previous books. Eventually I was just reading it to get to the end and get whatever I needed out of it so that I could read the last book , which I'm hoping is very little about Amelia at all.

Finally I understand Amelia. For the first two books I thought she was weak and weird. I had zero respect for her. Now this book, from her perspective, I finally get it.

In this book the viewpoint changes to Amelia and Kali (the gypsy who seems to be invading her dreams and creating a new reality for her). Amelia feels guilt, thinking she was the cause of her grandmother's death. She can't talk to her family about it and when she tries to talk with Perdita... well, Perdita has problems of her own and doesn't respond in a way that Amelia needs her to. No one believes her about her dreams. She's lost her appetite and has killer migraines. AND every time she goes to sleep, she's living the life of Kali, a gypsy 'witch', who is destined to be the mother of wolves.

This book parallels book 2 (Clarity) but is seen from an entirely different viewpoint. I loved how this was written and it left nothing out! Although it's not part of the 'trilogy', I highly recommend reading it after "Clarity."

low 3.5. I struggled with this book because part of the story that was being told we already knew ended in tragedy. This is a duel POV between Amelia and Kali that take place during the events of Clarity. Amelia struggling with the effects/guilt of book 1 is having dreams about the tragic doomed story of a girl named Kali. Kali's story is told in 3rd person and is all about how the curse came to be. Meanwhile Amelia is struggling to separate her feeling and Kali's separate while feeling like an outsider in her own family. You don't have to read this book in order to understand the series but it explains more and gives some insight into Amelia

Loved Kali's story (the gypsy ancestor) but struggled with Amelia perspective. She spent most of the book acting spoiled and complaining about problems that she already knew the answers to, such as why Nathan payed more attention to Perdita and not her... Umm because of the curse. Or why no one's paying attention to her struggles, which is probably because most of the time she doesn't actually tell them what's happening.

Aside from this I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how the story wraps up in the last book.

Retelling the second book but from Amelia’s point of view, this story was incredibly introspective. Full of teenage angst, Amelia comes across as an unreliable narrator. While the new angle was interesting, there was a lot of rehashing of the plot and, at times, if I hadn’t read the second book, I would have been lost as Farrell often left details out. The story of the curse is explained.
Not as well written as the first and second, but okay.

This was a great little novella. It explained pretty much everything having to do with the curse. Though I felt bad for Nathan and Perdita, I would like to think if they are really meant to be mates, then they'll be mates. No curse needed nor required.

I'm wondering what else will Amelia be capable of now that Kali transfered her essence into her...

It's a gift, not a curse! Lie #1- Being a wolf is a curse. Truth #1- The wolf is in the blood. Turns out the curse was the obsession of finding and then losing the soul mate. This novella explains so much, you can't skip it.

Intriguing, awesome, inspiring

Not knowing your heritage can be a pain in the rear end. As Amelia finds out in this story, she is part of a werewolf line. Other packs are jealous of the pack she belongs to. Trying to be normal can be difficult.

I loved getting the perspective of Amelia and what she was going through during her dreams and transformation! I was looking for this in the second novel and here it is! Very well done!

I liked this short book. It was great getting the story of the curse thought out the book and having it from Amelia's point of view for once. It was a shame that she had to go through all that by herself. I like the way it tied everything in the series together. I like how the info was passed to her through her dreams and how in the end she was feeling what Kali was.

It was fun to read Clarity from Amelia's POV. It changed how you saw some of the events that took place or at least gave some of the scenes more details that helped you get a better feel of what was really going on for her. I did not rate this book as high because it did not flow as quickly, and i got bored a few times listening to Amelia.

I think that after reading this you feel that Amelia is not as spoiled as she is made out in the first two books, but she is a bit more whiny than i really expected. Being the baby on the family, she wants to prove herself but holds back until the end causing more problems at least at first.

The best part of the book was finding out the truth about the curse and the heart-break surrounding it.

Although Kali is not the best role model, I would still be okay with my daughter reading this book. Kali is trying to make things right; even though she can not change what she did in the past. There is black magic used in the book that many parents may not be comfortable with their children reading; however, Claire Farrell does make it clear that bad things can happen when you use this magic. I like the fact that she does not make it seem like the cool thing to do, and as a mom I appreciate the other POV being made...i mean what do parent's know, right?

This has been sitting on my ereader for a few years now and I finally got round to reading it. The story follows Amelia and her family of cursed werewolves, her grandmother recently murdered and her brothers mate destined to die prematurely. In addition To Amelia's life we see the story of Kali and the gypsies.

Kali is a strong character, opiniated and unafraid to fight. Amelia on the other hand is a whiny character, stubborn and brattish. Kali's story was far more interesting to read. I wish there had been more development on that side, understandable the amount of scenes wrote considering Kali only expresses herself in Amelia's dreams.

If only the entire story was from Kali's perspective.

It felt good to get an insight of Amelia in Adversity. Even though it was short and only a 2.5 book in the series. And I was really hoping for a guy to come into the picture for Amelia. Throughout the whole book, Amelia is constantly reminded of how alone and unloved she is. Connor was interesting and whatnot, but she only liked him for his eyes. What's up with that?
Any who, it was an okay read and I wouldn't give it more than two stars.

Ameila was having dreams of a woman who was cursed. The woman, Kali, was supposed to be a special witch and her father was selling her to the highest bidder. She didn't want to marry the man her father was forcing on her so she ran away with the man she loved. They had a baby but the father found her and as they killed each other they also put a curse on their future generations. Ameila was hoping to end the curse.

I loved the first two books in this series. I couldn't put them down. I was excited to read this but I struggled to get through it. It felt so repetitive. I loved reading about Kali and toward the end Amelia's struggle with becoming a werewolf but the rest of her story I felt like I read already. It was too much of the same from book 2 even though its in a different perspective.

This book is wrote from Amelia's perspective. She is tasked with breaking the curse that has plagued her family for many years. It also fills in all the details of how the curse began as well as what everyone was doing in book 2 behind the scenes that we really didn't get to see. I liked seeing another perspective on the events occurring.

All I can say is, "THANK GOD I'm done with that book!" Once sheer stubborness got me to finish it. What began as book antipathy grew to sheer disgust - mainly due to poorly written situations and character stupidity (Would they REALLY act like that given the situation??)

I didn't realize when I started reading this it was not the first book in the series. I felt lost the whole book, like I missed something. I guess that should have been a clue. I don't know that I liked it enough to get the first book.

While I can't say that this is my favorite of the series it was still a really good story. The author explains more of the origins of the curse and shows you more of the backstory. I'm looking forward to reading how the series ends.
