You know things are out of hand in Maggie Lee’s world when the least of her problems is tripping over a body.
Her family has lost their home. Her friend, Armani, has lost her psychic mojo. And Maggie’s in danger of losing custody of her niece.
Making matters even worse is she can't refuse the latest job from her mobster boss. Not to mention she must team up with her murder mentor, Patrick Mulligan, and that's….complicated.
Innocents are at risk, lives are in danger, and a family secret could change everything.
Poor Maggie! The bad stuff keeps piling on her shoulders. She keeps going with the help of her animals. I can’t get enough of Maggie, God, DeeDee, Piss, Mike, and Benny. I hope her menagerie keeps on growing! I absolutely LOVED this installment. Perfect blend of laughs, tears, unexpected new characters, and the return of an old favorite. The plot thickens!!
Just when I am getting used to Maggie having a half brother named Ian, more surprises come tumbling out of the 19th (WOW!!) book in this fun series. J.B. Lynn has done it again. She has piled so much family responsibility on Maggie that even her motley crew of pets know she is on the cusp of being overwhelmed. And if taking care of her family is not enough, she also has to take care of Boy and make sure he is literally not starving. She also has taken on the responsibility to house, feed, and nurture her friend Armani. When she runs into Angle Delveccio, Mags is worried about him because he didn't seem right. She worries about a friend who is a reporter being in danger from her family troubles. And when her childhood friend shows up in the middle of a hostage situation, she fears for his life. How can she continue to try and keep everyone happy and find a new home for them all? It is overwhelming just reading about it and how tired she is. In the midst of all this she gets a call to come see Tony Delveccio about a job he has for her. More worries!
Don't think for a moment that any of this is actually depressing or ruins the enjoyment of the book. It is carried by Maggie's internal and often unthinking external commentary, and the personality and voices of her pets. A lizard named God, a white mouse named Bennie, a cat named Piss, a crow named Mike who isn't really a pet, and a Doberman named DeeDee who speaks in dyslexic sentences! Not only do they talk to each other ("inside bark!"), they advise her, comfort her, and help on missions. They are the best friends she could ever have, and a great part of what makes Maggie so special.
This is an exciting book in an exciting series. It is a funny book in a funny series. It is a book that is woven around family-both the positive and the negatives that family offers. It is a book about a woman who will never let anyone down. Written by an author who knows what her readers want, this is a book that is over too quickly. And now the wait begins for #20 which can't come soon enough. Brava J.B. for another outstanding book!
Loved this book! This is a wonderful series that has humor woven throughout it, but also poignant moments as well. In this novel, Maggie (our Slightly Neurotic Hitwoman), is trying to juggle demands from from her family, her mob friend, her animals, her friends, etc. Actually, it's sort of exhausting just thinking about it.... As Maggie struggles to meet the needs of those she cares about, she is, once again, drawn into a criminal act.
I love how Maggie has grown and matured over the series, and, especially love her relationships with her niece, Katie, and the mob boss. Maggie's relationship with the mob boss is odd, but has a kind of synergy that makes it work.
This novel has a number of poignant moments that tugged on my heart strings. I especially loved the ending....it was perfect. Truly, while I have enjoyed every book in this series, this is the best one yet.
Put this one at the top of your TBR list. While this is a stand alone novel, it is so good that you really owe it to yourself to read them all. The author is on my must read authors' list and, if you enjoy the genre, should probably be on yours as well.
What else can go wrong? Even in the midst of the B&B blowing up and everyone have to find places to live, Maggie helps others. If she didn’t have her pets, she’d be on her own because the rest of her family look to her to take care of them. This is such a good series that even when Maggie is sobbing her heart out, you just know she will find a way. Even when confronted with a crazy woman and a doctor threatening her beloved niece, she has her mob boss to rely on. But, she doesn’t like to rely on anyone not even Patrick. In this escapade, he needs to rely on her. I just love these books. I know the author must be channeling her own crazy life into Maggie but with more gusto than in reality. These books will make you laugh out loud. Start with the first one and work your way up to #20. You will enjoy every page.
Well, that was one fully-loaded story and I loved it so much.
Maggie is seriously not a juggler but damn she gave it a good try... Darlene needs a kick up the ass and a reality check Maggie is not responsible for everyone in the family just because she is the eldest, oh and Katie belongs with Maggie, I can't help it I'm just not warming to Darlene at all.
I just want to dive right into the story but that would give away to may spoilers so it's like this, Maggie finds trouble...lol I know shocking right but it really wasn't her fault and it awesome klutzy way she saves the day with the help from her animal friends and some new faces as well. Maggie's family seems to be ever expanding and I really can't wait for the next book.
In this installment of the adventures of Maggie Lee aka the Hitwoman, Maggie has to find a new home after their home was blown up, rescue an abused boy, kidnap the boy's father, and try to keep her niece from the clutches of a shady social worker. Along the way, she meets her believed to be dead grandfather, get new scrabble tiles for her physic friend, and find the mole in the organization that employs her. Can she do it? Will she lose custody of her beloved niece? Will her animals be able to help her? Read it, and find out. You'll be glad you did!
I loved this book. JB Lynn is a fantastic writer. I couldn’t put the book down! I never knew what was going to happen next. First Maggie must help her family relocate, secondly she has to help Armani, thirdly Delveccio needs her assistance, fourthly her brother Ian needs help. All that and she is responsible for Katie, DeeDee, God, Benny, Piss , Boy. What is going on with Angel? How about Patrick? So many layers and layers of plot twists. I can’t get enough and wonder how the surprises in this book will be dealt with in Maggie’s next adventure!
Another great book in this series. I seriously don't know how JB Lynn keeps the story fresh. Usually, by book 20 in a series, I've given up because the stories have become too cookie cutter. But not with this series. You don't know what will happen. There's a lot of stress on Maggie in this book. Some may be her own doing, but most of it is because the adults in the family don't want to act like adults. I really disliked Darlene in this book. Read my full review at Girl Who Reads
Maggie has seen some hard times but this might be the worst. No home to live in. Social services are threatening to take her niece Katie away and that's just the beginning. This woman had so much going on I'm not sure how she keeps her sanity. As always JB Lynn writes a book full of action with humor and some scary dangerous stuff too. Somehow she keeps you guessing as to what's coming next. I'm not sure how she keeps this series fresh but she does. Excellent writing and fast paced and interesting with just the right amount of humor make this a excellent read.
I have been hooked since the very first book! Every character is a character, if you get my meaning. There are twice as many since the series started but they don't all have pivotal parts in every book so it's pretty easy keeping track. And they are all lovable in quirky ways. The plots are rich and screwy most of the time, which make this series even better. Start at the beginning and just keep reading each of the books until you're caught up. You really need to and you'll kick yourself if you skip ahead and miss some of the fun!!! Enjoy!
This book is well written and highly entertaining. The characters are really well developed so much so that you feel like you know them. The animals are a fun addition and add humor to the series, it just wouldn’t be the same without them! The story pulls you into the lives of Maggie’s family and friends and you just can’t put it down, nor do you want it to ever end because you just want to keep seeing what is going to happen next. I definitely recommend this series!
WOW WOW WOW! Just when I thought this series could not get any better, it did! I love this series so much, JB is such a great writer, she gets your attention on the first page and you can't stop reading! Maggie is so lucky to have the help of all of her talking animals. Lots of twists and turns and an interesting plot. I laughed and cried! Another great one! thank you JB Lynn for such a wonderful series!
20 books in and still AWESOME! Seriously, I’m kind of amazed at how good this series continues to be! Still engaging, still heartwarming, still funny as hell! There are a few series I just couldn’t live without (John Sandford’s Prey series, Joe Ide’s IQ series, Louise Penny’s Inspector Gamache series, to name just a few), and JB Lynn’s Hitwoman series is, arguably, at the top of that list. Yes, those other series are bigger, more serious (denser) reads, blah, blah, blah. But, the writing is there. The themes are legit. Yes, it’s lighter, but we neeeeed lighter, right now. And lighter doesn’t equal lesser in this series. I’m thankful for every single one, and I’m parceling them out like precious treats, because I’m terrified there’ll come a day when I finally reach the end. Pick up the first book in the series…you deserve this ice cold glass of lemonade on a hot, summer day!
I read the 20 books and I had my doubts ,and those uncertainties or those not so great thoughts I wrote about were so very, very wrong !
I loved the this series! I think anyone would if they gave it the chance. Please read them so I can see your thoughts ,these short 4 or 5 hour books kept me in an almost constant trance!
when I read the last book I wanted to kick myself for any negative vibes I put out. Forgive me JB Lynn....... Keep writing and talking doolittle
Let me just say, I rarely leave reviews. However, I have been spellbound by the Hitwoman series from the very first book. I haven’t been able to stop, kind of like potato chips. Maggie’s ability to talk to animals, the quirky personalities (animal and human) and the wonderful humor work together in a magical combination. They have gotten me through an interstate move and the loss of a beloved pet. Thank you, Ms. Lynn, and please give us many more!
I have been reading this book series from the beginning and I am still hooked! You can read just one book and not be lost. However, reading the entire series you will become so invested in the characters that you feel like you are a part of the story. Go ahead and read The Hitwoman’s Juggling Act then go back and see the story unfold effortlessly from the beginning you won’t regret it! A fun, fast, and engaging read.
Things just keep going from bad to worse for poor Maggie. This is a great addition to the Hitwoman series. The action was non-stop, the crisis's stacking one on another, and Maggie still needs to find a house for them all to live in. With the help of her animal friends she manages to make it through once again I love this series, and am already looking forward to the next book. I don't do spoilers, so you'll have to read the book to find out all the details. Enjoy!
Poor Maggie was juggling everyone's problems in this book! It felt like she was just running around in circles trying to help everyone with their problems. I was exhausted reading it!
There were some surprises in this story, and some sweet moments. New animals were introduced (LOVE all the animals in this series) and all the usual quirky characters were there.
These books are my favorite. I love Maggie and all the animals are so great. They all have such personalities. The story itself was a little convoluted maybe but I still breezed through the book in a day and was sad to see it end.
I look forward to each of these books so much. I already can't wait for the next!
Ms. Lynn is not an author of a typical example of "a classic " book, but because so few authors can accomplish what she has done she deserves 5 stars. Ms. Lynn manages to keep each book fresh and fun without being redundant from its exposition to its resolution. Bravo!!!
Enjoy the series even though I can’t stand Maggie- is this chick ever happy about anything? Anyway love the animals and all the other characters. I get a hoot from all the critters talking and that several family members can understand them. The storyline keeps moving along at a quick pace and that keeps me interested.
I am sure that I am not the only one that has a queue of books that I have waiting to read...but when a new Hitwoman comes out, it goes straight to the top of my reading list. Can't put down, fun to read and always giving twists and turns i never saw coming. I recommend the author and the series.
I love this series. I love animals, and Maggie Lee is kind and caring to any and all, but being able to talk with them isn't all fun and games. They help her as she helps them and together they protect her family and friends. J.B. Lynn makes the characters come alive, fur, feathers and all.
This book did not disappoint! There were some neat, unexpected twists and turns that really caused everything to come together nicely. I absolutely adore all the characters...human and animal. This is a fantastic series.
Maggie to the family rescue once again. Maggie and the pets must keep the peace within the family, welcome a new family member and still complete her secret job. Super fun.
I love this series and this book was just as fun. For a moment I thought Maggie was going to adopt another pet. And what a good ending with another family member popping up.
This is a great series with so many interesting characters. To me HW juggling act brought the series together. Funny and entertaining with a unique storyline. Five stars for JB Lynn
I have read all the books in this series and they just keep getting better. The characters are interesting and there are always surprises. It is hard to put the book down. Look forward to the next one.
