Welcome to Moonglow Cove, Texas, a place where your neighbors know your name and the gentle waves of the Gulf of Mexico lap lazily against the sands. It’s a magical spot, especially in the summertime…
Once the town was the home of the Clark sisters—brought up by their grandmother at the Moonglow Inn. Nicknamed “The Moonglow Sisters”, as children they were inseparable. Then, a wedding-day betrayal tore them apart and they scattered across the globe and away from each other. But the sisters have at last come home…
There’s Maddie: smart, sensible, and stubborn. Shelley, who ran off to find her bliss. And Gia, a free-spirit determined to keep the peace. It’s her impending wedding that keeps them together…but Gia has a secret, and when her sisters find out all heck is going to break lose!
The Moonglow Sisters continues Lori Wilde’s trademark storytelling to create an unforgettable novel of family, betrayal, love, and second chances.
Lori Wilde can’t remember a time when she didn’t want to write. She even went to nursing school so she could have a schedule flexible enough to allow her to write on the side. She nursed for 20 years, working in a variety of settings from the newborn nursery to the recovery room, to dialysis. But she never lost her desire to write.
She sold her first book in 1994 to Silhouette Romance but later discovered she had a flair for comedy and branched out to Harlequin Duets and now, to Blaze.
Lori is an adventuresome soul who loves to travel. She’s taken flying lessons, completed two marathons, rode in a hot-air balloon, performed with a professional jazz band, traveled Europe as a teenager, hiked volcanoes in Hawaii, trod on glaciers in Alaska, shot white-water rapids, water-skied, snow-skied, raced all-terrain vehicles, bodysurfed in the Gulf of Mexico, and photographed grizzly bears in Yellowstone.
She lives in her native Texas, with her own real-life hero, Bill.
Regret tasted like burnt pennies in her mouth, and her throat clotted thick with the salty taste of grief.
… those Divas were the bomb-diggity…
Gia was feeling overlooked and incidental. “You guys always leave me out,” Gia grumbled. “Treat me like a mushroom, keep me in the dark and feed me—”
“Life is a puzzle.” Darynda backed out of the driveway. “Seems like by the time you’ve got it all together, it’s time to die.”
Contentment stole over her, and she realized she wasn’t thinking about anything. She smiled. It felt like recess. A time-out from the craziness her life had become.
My Review:
I thoroughly relished this cleverly plotted tale and by the end of the book, I knew this oddly enticing train wreck of a family so well I could recognize them on the street. They hadn’t always been a train wreck but they had always had issues. Each of the three sisters had strikingly different personalities, insecurities, and looks. They had been a close unit until “the Incident with Raoul,” which mercilessly taunted me until the actual event was finally revealed.
The writing was unfailingly engaging, easy to follow, and absorbing with cleverly layered and unusual nuances and unexpected twists, as well as witty Easter Eggs of humor tucked in unexpected places to balance out the emotional tone.
The cast with packed with a lively and quirky crew of secondary and tertiary characters who provided considerable levity and amusing scenarios, such as the wry banter provided by the geriatric Quilting Divas and a cameo appearance by a hapless beach bush urinator.
I adored this book and felt pleasantly entertained while I also gleaned considerable new knowledge about quilting, love bombing, and kite flying - all valuable lessons. Flying pigs, it was the bomb-diggity!
I loved these three sisters. Throughout the story they all learned , Love, Devotion, and selflessness. The romance with Mike and Gia was so cute, I loved Mike from the very beginning. This is a fun summer beach read they will having you feeling good. I gave this book 4 stars so glad that I picked it up.
This book is essentially a Hallmark movie, except possibly even more sappy and with less plot. It's sweet, and it's easy to read, but by the end, it just felt painfully saccharine. I'm not convinced there was enough tension or drama to create anything compelling, the romances are bare to non-existent. (Who buys an engagement ring for someone they aren't even dating?! Am I watching Glee again?) But it wasn't bad.
The Moonglow Sisters by Lori Wilde, set in Moonglow Texas, was the perfect book to read as I prepare to travel to Texas. This book is both as light as a summer breeze and as heavy as the dense humidity that can often come with summer, especially in Texas! Gia, Shelly, and Madison reunite to love and pray and wish their grandma back to health after a serious diagnosis. After five years spent apart and barely speaking following a wedding day debacle and serious sisterly rift, they must find a way to work together, to forgive, and to heal. To come full circle. Secrets long kept bubble to the surface and are revealed and only then can the sisters forgive each other and rebuild their relationship with one another and with significant others in their lives. Even Grandma has a special story, a long-held secret that once the truth is known finally sets her free and allows her to live her final days with the one true love of her life. This book definitely shows how we should never assume that we know what someone else is going through.
“We are all flawed, but we are also all perfect in out humanity “
Several years ago the Moonglow Sisters had a falling out. Everyone has their version, now their grandmother ( the woman who raised them ) is sick. It is her wish for Gia, the peacemaker , to bring them all together to finish a wedding quilt. Madison, is the traditionalist and the leader, mother, rule maker , she wants nothing to do with Shelly and hasn’t spoken to her in five years. Shelly , the rule-breaker and the keeper of secrets , has longed for forgiveness and family.
Can these sisters put aside their differences and learn to forgive and reunite?
A fun, lighthearted, easy read! This was the perfect palate cleanser for me. It was a fun read about sisters, family bonds, and forgiveness. The romance felt rushed and the sex scene was just strange. I loved the sisters bond with their beloved Grandma. There was a lot going on in this book but it all came together perfectly in the end. Was it predictable? Yes. But sometimes you just need a happy ending and this book delivered. My thanks to the publisher for the advance reader in exchange for my honest review.
The Moonglow Sisters is a women’s fiction novel about three sisters that were torn apart after an incident at the oldest sister’s wedding. That incident sent the three away from their small Texas coastal town, but with their beloved grandmother ill, one returned the other two have stayed gone but with their grandmother ill, the one who raised them after their parents were killed, they return to fight the demons of their past and figure out where life takes them next.
I enjoyed watching these three very different women grow and change throughout this book while they repair their relationship and learn so much about one another. There were scenes I thoroughly enjoyed, but at other times they individually drove me crazy with their pettiness and attitudes. The thing is I didn’t feel they closeness between them that the town seemed to think they had. If was obvious they’d always had some tension between them, they didn’t agree on how each other lived their life even before the incident so I wasn’t really invested on them repairing their relationship.
I found myself much more interested in their grandmother’s story and the budding romance between the youngest sister Gia and the next door neighbor Mike, who’d loved her from afar for many years, but also encouraged her to go after her dreams.
While I liked this book at times it seemed bloated with unnecessary dialog and as I found it hard to connect with any of the characters, I don’t think I’d be interested in reading another book if this were to become a series.
Wow I went into this expecting a hopeful story that would make me smile; instead I got annoying characters, unnecessary dramas caused by miscommunication, lame solutions to each conflict, and a forced romance with a sex scene described through analogies on how to fly a kite...
The Moonglow Sisters have come home to their grandmother's home when she is in a coma. The three sisters were once inseparable, especially after losing their parents in accident. After an incident that caused them to take sides, the three never spoke again for five years. I liked this novel. While the story is about three sisters and family, there is romance in this novel and is a HEA kind of book. I was expecting a bit more "realism" in the novel, but I think that was due to the marketing and synopsis of the book. Lori Wilde does mostly write romance novels, and in that frame of mind I did enjoy the novel. I decided to rate it 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4, as a compromise.
***I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from the publisher through Edelweiss. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.***
The Moonglow Sisters had a lot of potential and at times, it was very good. Then the story would just become way too unbelievable and corny. I loved the interaction between Gia and Mike though the romance was just a bit weird. This would make for a good beach read. A story about sisters, forgiveness, a little romance and lots of family drama. Thank you to NetGallery, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read and give my honest review about this book. 3.5🌟
I've always loved Lori Wilde's cowboy romances and had high expectations for The Moonglow Sisters. This book is more Women's Literature than vs. Wilde's normal genre. She has made the transition with grace and elegance. This story of women trying to repair the ripped basis of their family is engaging and emotionally charged as falsehoods and truths are brought to light. I loved and connected with every single character in the story and cheered as each came into their own. Wilde has shown the heartache of a family torn apart, the struggles and the joys and love that is possible when members come together for the good of the family. The Moonglow Sisters is a beautifully written book. I was given a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. All thoughts are my own.
A novel about the intricacies of family relationships and finding a way to heal after past hurts, The Moonglow Sisters was a thoughtful, charming piece of women’s fiction from Lori Wilde.
Lori Wilde has been one of my go-to authors for some time when it comes to contemporary romance set in small Texas towns with yummy–er, I mean, interesting cowboys. (lol) So I was quite happy to see she was branching out into women’s fiction. The Moonglow Sisters still had that small town feel as well as it being character driven, which I’ve loved about Wilde’s romances, so this was a win for me right out of the gate... Read More
I like Lori Wilde books and I think this is my favorite. The Moonglow sisters return to their childhood home when their grandmother is operated on for brain cancer. Moonglow Cove, Texas has missed the girls who used to be so close and part of their small town. A wedding day disaster tore the sisters apart with Gia returning home after college and apprenticeship in Japan to open her kite shop. Maddie made it bigtime in New York television and Shelley went into a cult in Central America. Their grandmother wants them to forgive and forget but Maggie and Shelly aren't making it easy for Gia to complete her Grandmothers wishes. Lovely story of sisters and family. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Five years ago, a betrayal happened that caused a huge rift in the family. The three sisters don’t really communicate anymore, and their grandmother (who raised them) is heartbroken that they haven’t managed to fix their broken relationships. Now, staring down some bad health, her big wish is for her grandchildren to come back together as a family. That won’t be easy because the wounds still feel fresh. She writes a note to one of the granddaughters and strongly urges her to contact the other two and fix things, and she suggests the way it should happen.
Listen, it’s really a big deal when a family has a falling-out and doesn’t speak for a length of time. (I’ve been through this!) Ms. Wilde has crafted a story here where this family has fallen apart after a betrayal, and now they have no choice but to come back together and work things out. Well, they do have a choice, but they feel sort of manipulated into doing what their grandmother wants them to do. Working out tough family situations is tricky period, but when you throw in other real-life stresses, things get much more elevated because the stress and emotions run high. Some of the tensions (and problems, and solutions) in this story were obvious to me as a reader, but not necessarily easy things for these sisters. I loved reading the overall process of this family healing and forgiving and moving on.
I also loved that each of the three sisters were so different and unique. Gia operates a kite business, Madison is a YouTube and TV personality, and Shelley has a mysterious past involving living with a non traditional community in Costa Rica. They’re all different, but they’re still much the same because they’re family. They all have secrets they’re keeping. They all have pain.
I just really felt for them and wanted the best for them. I feel like I understood so many of their thoughts and feelings because of my own relationship with my two sisters. I got frustrated a few times because I knew things that one sister said to another were charged and inflammatory, but isn’t that how it goes with sisters? Even the closest of sisters are sometimes involved with nitpicking and bickering at times. This process of mending felt true to me, even in its difficulty.
I loved the supporting characters too. And I loved that they were by the ocean. This story was heartwarming and cozy and lighthearted. I haven’t read anything else by Ms. Wilde yet, but this really, really makes me want to read her other work.
I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Thank you, William Morrow Books!
The Moonglow Sisters will leave readers glowingly fulfilled. Three sisters, torn apart by betrayal and misunderstandings, find the, selves reunited when their beloved grandmother needs them. The rift is deep and each has her own secrets to divulge. As the narrative progresses, readers get each sister's full story and the ugliness of secrecy is cleansed by truth. It's a fulfilling story. I was all in for Mike after the first sentence describing him. My favorite sister was Gia and the relationship she has with Mike. I'm infatuated with stories that include three sisters or four friends and Wilde hit the mark with this one. Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins for the great advance read.
The Clark sisters (Madison,Shelley, and Gia), were brought up by their grandmother, after the death of their parents, at the Moonglow Inn On Madison's wedding day, An incident occurs that tears them apart. Madison and Shelley leave town. The girls have not spoken to each other for five years. Their Grandmother becomes seriously ill and ask's Gia to bring the other two sisters home and finish the quilt that was started for Madison's wedding and to mend the rift between them.
Started out interesting and then it fizzled out. I wanted to rave about this book about sisters working on a quilt while they wait for their grandmother to come out of a comma. I just cant. It was interesting at first but I lost interest half way through. I am sad that I endured dumb ideas such as a yoga cult and I kissed my sister's fiancee so she would see he was a bad guy. Dumb. Next.
Lori Wilde might be my new favorite author. I have no idea how I have missed her books all this time but The Moonglow Sister was a great one to start with. I would strongly recommend it. Can’t wait to read more of her books.
The Clark sisters were once inseparable, then a little wedding day incident drove them apart, and forced them to all go their separate ways, leaving their beloved grandmother to live in Moonglow Cove, Texas on her own.
But it's her deteriorating health and a last wish that is about to unite them after all these years. Maddie, Gia, and Shelley have come home and are about to embark on a journey that mends their broken hearts and restrengthens their sisterly bond... and grants their grandmother's greatest wish.
The Moonglow Sisters is a story of healing old wounds, forgiveness, new beginnings, and rediscovery. Watching these ladies reunite and face all their issues was thoroughly entertaining and good on the ticker, they had me smiling quite often. They may have been divided, but their wise grandmother found a unique way to bring them back together once and for all, and remind them of the importance of family. With it's touching story line, captivating words, and endearing easy-to-love characters, Moonglow Sisters is a can't miss tale! This is definitely one of my favorites from this author to date, her well penned words inspired and left my heart happy, highly recommend!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
Two of the Clark sisters left Moonglow Cove, Texas, after the Incident with Raoul. Now five years have passed and Grammy is having surgery and has written a little to Gia, the peacemaker, to get the sisters back together and to finish the wedding quilt. All the sisters have secrets. I won’t leave any spoilers, but I will say this is one of my favorite reads this year. Grab your copy and see what Madison, Shelley, and Gia are hiding. If you love reading a book about forgiveness with family at the center of it, you won’t be disappointed with this book. I loved how the community came together to help, when it was especially needed. Just wait until you find out what Gia does that shocks Madison and Shelley and really opens their eyes.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
This story takes place in Moonglow Cove ,Texas and is about 3 sisters who lost both of their parents at a young age.Their Grandma took them in an raised them at her her Inn,the Moonglow Inn.That is how the sisters were know as the Moonglow sisters.Madison was the oldest,Shelly in the middle then Gia the youngest. They were very close growing up but when Madison decides to get married something bad happens at the wedding and it separates all of the sisters. The 2 oldest girls take off and start lives of their owns.Gia stays in town and starts her own career.Their Grandma's illness draws them all back together at the Inn to take care of her. This is a story of betrayal and hurts that are going to be hard to forgive. When the truth comes out they are surprised to find out that things were not like they thought. It is a time of forgiveness and love between the sisters.A very touching story!
The Moonglow Sisters had everything and more that I was looking for. Sisters that are reunited after a falling out five years ago, a fake engagement and a small town feeling. Their grandma, who is now sick, had one wish left and that was for the sisters to be reunited and finish the wedding quilt. Each of the sisters are so different but can they put aside their differences this one summer.
This was a hard book to put down. I loved each of the sisters. Loved the small town, how everyone comes together to help the sisters getting the B&B back up and running. Loved the relationship of Gia and Mike. A wonderful book that I highly recommend.
The Moonglow sisters were tight and close knit all their lives until an incident at a wedding sends them in different directions and never speaking to eachother again. When their grandmother becomes I'll the girls come back home. This was a beautiful story of family, love, betrayal and forgiveness. A perfect beach bag book. I loved it.
This was a well-written, entertaining book. It was heartwarming and engaged my attention. The characters were relatable and I didn't want to put the book down. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books by this author.
The Moonglow Sisters by Lori Wilde, is the first book in a series set in Moonglow Texas. Gia, Shelly, and Madison reunite after their grandma has been diagnosed with a serious illness. The sisters had a falling out five years earlier and are now estranged. Grandma has requested they finish the wedding quilt they abandoned when things went wrong. Gia is the one who returned to Moonglow after college and an apprenticeship in Japan for kite making. She had to convince her sisters to come back after grandma's request. Maddie made it bigtime in New York television but is dealing with a fallout and possible changes in her life. Shelley went looking for love and acceptance ad ended up in a cult. As these three come back together in their grandma's home, can they forgive one another and move forward as the loving family they used to be.
This book is a wonderful story of family, secrets, forgiveness, acceptance, love and some romance. I enjoyed watching these three very different women grow and change throughout this book while they repair their relationship and learn so much about one another. I didn't think they would be able to heal the rift as there was so much anger, sadness and frustration. There were times I was upset with one or more of them as there were times I felt they were acting in a very selfish way, but at others time I enjoyed seeing their interactions. I loved that even Grandma has a long-held secret that once the truth is known finally sets her free and allows her to live her final days with the one true love of her life. There is a romance involving Gia that was sweet, but definitely not the major plot of the story. This book definitely shows how we should never assume that we know what someone else is going through. A heartwarming family story that had me smiling at the end. Narrator, Teri Schnaubelt, does a wonderful job with this book. She distinguishes each voice with tone, expression, gender, age etc. She’s spot on with the pace and tone. I hope she continues to narrate the series.
The Moonglow Sisters by Lori Wilde is everything I hoped it would be and more. The cover drew me in first, next the description but it is the story within that kept me happily turning pages and discovering a new favorite author!
Madison, Shelly, and Gia are the Moonglow sisters, orphaned at a young age and sent to live with their Grammy Chapman at the Moonglow Inn, a Bed and Breakfast in Moonglow Cove right on the Gulf of Mexico. They are as close as sisters can be, beautiful, talented, and inseparable until one tragic betrayal tears the sisters apart, each of them finding a different life in different parts of the world. Five years later they are reunited by another tragedy and must navigate all the feelings that led to their estrangement.
What a wonderful story this is! All the ups and downs of complex relationships, especially those of sisters, is explored in a heart-warming and at times, heart-rending tale. Ms. Wilde’s Moonglow Cove is such a beautiful place and her descriptive writing makes it so easy to visualize. What really made the story hard to put down is the well-written characters! I really liked the sisters and their intricate and complicated relationship; Maddie hardened by her drive and anger, Shelly doing all she can to escape the middle child syndrome, and Gia doing her best to always smooth things over and play peace-maker. Grammy and Darynda are amazing secondary characters and I loved reading their story. Such well-developed characters always stay with me. I’m looking forward to reading more by Lori Wilde.
A big thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins Publishers, and William Morrow Paperbacks for providing me with this galley to read and review.
The Moonglow Sisters should not be missed. Grammy, who raised the three sisters when their parents died is facing dangerous surgery. The sisters have been estranged for 5 years and Grammy has a plan that involves quilting to bring them together. Each sister has a different personality, needs and secrets, that keep the reader completely engaged in finishing this wonderfully uplifting book. This is a story about family, love, forgiveness and learning to stand up for oneself. This new to me author is quite adept at descriptive prose and dialogue that rings true. I loved everything about this story and have no problem highly recommending it to everyone. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. Most highly recommend!
What a WONDERFUL book! A heart warming book of family, faith and forgiveness. Three sisters - torn apart on Madison’s wedding day - by a misunderstanding by one sister. Shelley runs off to Costa Rica for solitude, Gia stays in Moonglow Cove, and Madison goes to New York for a career in TV. But when their grandmother is diagnosed with brain cancer - and needs them and gives Gia a letter asking her to get the sisters back together to mend their relationship - will the Moonglow sisters be able to put all that is happened behind them?
THE MOONGLOW SISTERS by Lori Wilde is a beautiful story filled with love. There sisters unite to save their Grandmother's B & B. A special five 🌟 read!
