C. G. Cooper is the USA TODAY and AMAZON BESTSELLING author of the CORPS JUSTICE novels, several spinoffs and a growing number of stand-alone novels.
One of his novels, CHAIN OF COMMAND, won the 2020 James Webb Award presented by the Marine Heritage Foundation for its portrayal of the United States Marine Corps in fiction. Cooper doesn't chase awards, but this one was special.
Cooper grew up on a steady diet of Dungeons & Dragons and the travels of a Navy family.
Upon graduating from the University of Virginia with a degree in Foreign Affairs, Cooper was commissioned in the United States Marine Corps and went on to serve six years as an infantry officer. C. G. Cooper's final Marine duty station was in Nashville, Tennessee, where he fell in love with the laid-back lifestyle of Music City.
His first published novel, BACK TO WAR, came out of a desire to link back to his time in the Marine Corps. That novel, written as a side project, spawned many follow-on novels, several exciting spinoffs, and catapulted Cooper's career.
Cooper lives just south of Nashville with his wife, three children, and their German shorthaired pointer, Liberty, who's become a popular character in the Corps Justice novels.
In the interest of full disclosure, I am a contributing member of Novels Live and a Beta reader for Corps Justice books. It should also be noted that I have purchased each of these books after publication because I feel they are well worth the investment as a valuable part of my library. I also feel that authors should be rewarded for their hard work.
Carlos Cooper continues his growth as a writer, his characterization in this latest work is well crafted and the story flows smoothly from beginning to end. Although this book can be read as a stand-alone story, the reader would be well served by reading the earlier Corps Justice novels and short stories, many of which are still free.
Amazon's book description of this story is sparse, almost skeletal; for a very good reason. This story is told from several perspectives and the transitions between them are almost seamless. You will think you are going down one particular path, only to find that your assumptions are incorrect and you will have to re-evaluate your point of view. Like most of Cooper's work, this is a story of leadership, this time covering the most difficult decisions any leader can make. Those of you who have been there will understand this without question. Those of you who aspire to become leaders will learn from this. Those of you who have never made that most difficult of decisions, to send troops into situations where they might not survive, will read this and be glad there are leaders like this. I do not give plot details that might spoil the story, but I will say this book will take you places you never expected. I will give you my word that this will be one of the most enjoyable books you will read and that you will see why I say Carlos Cooper is indeed a fine young author.
"Disavowed: A Patriotic Adventure" is by far the bests installment of the series and kept my attention from beginning to end. Who orchestrated the kidnapping of killing of Andy in Afghanistan on this his first mission with the CIA? How does Cal and the team react when they find that Andy is MIA and they're not sure who in the government they can trust? Is our own government trying to kill our own agents? People I thought were good were actually bad and then actually good again...kept me guessing until the very end.
Two criticisms on this fine story. First, Mr. Cooper, you continue to do this in every book in this series when talking about medals in the military, soldiers are bestowed these awards, sometimes posthumously - THEY DO NOT WIN THEM! I would appreciate if you can make this correction. Secondly, typos and extra words continue in this book as they have throughout the series...why aren't your editors able to find them?
Each of the books in the series are stand alone books and aren't dependent upon an earlier book in the series. However, to fully understand the characters and what they do, I'd suggests starting at the beginning. Readers will find each installment better than the previous one. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and looking forward to another in the future Mr. Cooper! Great story!
John Podlaski, author Cherries - A Vietnam War Novel
Very good reading, I have come to feel a kinship to the Jefferson Group and the President. Your books keeps me up late at night because I can't go to sleep until I know all the group is intact and safe .
'Disavowed' was full of twists that I didn't see coming. As always with each book in the 'Corps Justice Series', this book was well written and well thought out. Full of action, mystery, deceit and incredible scenarios. I love the creativity C.G. Cooper weaves into each book. Cal and his team have been through hell and continue to go back for more. They are true patriots. The storyline was incredibly intriguing. There will always be bad guys, inexcusable actions, deceit and tremendous bouts of bravery. There will always be a mission to right the wrongs and in the hopes of creating peace. It won't always be successful, but man what a ride. I can't wait to read the next book. A definite must read. Recommended.
Another great Corp Justice book that will keep you biting your nails. This book is intense and the team is put to the ultimate test as they attempt a rescue operation with no support from the government.
Mr. Cooper continues to honor the military, the men that serve, the Corp and the values that make a hero -- thank you.
Just a note - these books are all stand alone but I went from 3 to 8 and had to go back and review some of the others to 'catch up' so I do recommend that you read them in order. Either way, you will soon find that you have a new favorite series and author.
Ok come on. I have loved every one of these books. A few books back you killed off Brian Ramirez. I cried my eyes out but held my tongue because you left Cal with Daniel as his confidant and armour bearer. Now you write Andy off to the CIA! How could you?! I'm so disappointed. And to work for that sleaze bag too. I was afraid that's how he'd decide but I truly hoped I was wrong. Don't you worry, I love these books, I just had to vent. Read them, read them, read them!!!
Like the first seven books, cg cooper, the author keeps the story mission focused. From the beginning to the end the reader is able to easily “ride along” and shadow Cal in his relationships as well as get into the heads of the opposition. The book, like the rest I’ve read are quick focused escapes to adventure. The characters are well developed whether you are reading from book one or jump into book 8. I particularly like the Marine nexus throughout the series. It rings true book after book.
This story was one the ideas I have of what it means to be a Marine, the Moto, “ Never leave a man behind!” The friendship deplayed in story give credo meaning! Not a lot of action of which I am normally accustomed to reading with Corps Justice series but the story of rescuing Major Andrew was intriguing at best! Again another great novel!
I've loved every book in this series, just wish they were longer! They are very well written although I do find an occasional grammar mistake. I'd recommend this book and the entire series to anyone who who likes a political thriller. I can't wait to read the next one.
A CIA agent is apprehended, imprisoned, chained to a wall. Then disavowed. A traitor. A dead man walking. Set up by his own people. The CIA. The Jefferson Group, a covert highly skilled, very deadly team work for POTUS. They will find out and help their close friend. Intrigue, deceit, action this read has it all! Enjoyed tremendously
I took a 2 day break mainly because 7 was a little over my head. I'm still enjoying the books looking forward to the next. Maybe spoiler alert..... The words " Someone is trying to end the Marines" kinda made me roll my eyes, but I know better by the prior 8 books. ACEM
Good but not as good as the others in this series.
I love all of his books! He is an exciting writer and I get so immersed in the stories! He is one of my favorite writers now. If you haven’t had a chance to read any of his books, you need too! The are fantastic if you like action military stories!!
Another great installment of the Corps Justice series
CG Cooper never disappoints with the Cal Stokes, Corps Justice series. Picking up where the last book left off, the Jefferson group are now in Afghanistan trying to find Major Andrews who has been captured. Lots of twists and turns and of course, plenty of ass kicking by the team.
Great storytelling combined with the witty banter of camaraderie and inspiring patriotism.... CG Cooper delivers another win! Cal and his team are lovable badasses! I can't wait to read on....
The characters in C. G. Coopers' books are terrific. Cal Stokes and the Jefferson Group have what it takes to keep the story interesting and suspenseful. I look forward to each new book that C.G. Cooper writes.
The gang is back together and even visited by Andy. I love how each book flows so smoothly from one to the next. I can't ever seem to put them down. Wonderfully patriotic with thought and detail. Thank you C G!!! Keep them coming.
Rising conflict among nations, cooperation between international allies, and briberies the size of national debts bring Cal and his team into danger, intrigue, and battle. The victor writes history.
Wow the team took out the bad guys with such a precision it is so good. People who are supposed to be helping people are stealing from them and killing them for greed.
A good story but limited SSI involvement. Cooper is no doubt a great writer but at times some of his stories aren’t as tight as I’d like them to be and this is one of those. He kept me turning pages but I thought it wasn’t his best. 4.8
I love this series very fast moving and never boring C.G. Cooper is a fine writer. I am starting the next one tonight they always interfere with my sleep time but as I am retired I usually catch up the next day. So keep on writing C.G.
I like CG Cooper. I like the way he writes but I'm not sure about Andy's new job. And I'm definitely not sure about Cole. Cole seems colder than Andy. We shall see what we shall see!
Another excellent Corps Justice novel. Many twists and turns leaving the reader turning page and looking forward to the next surprise. Read it in one sitting...Read to start Book 9.
As the team is getting settled into new environment and missions one of their friends goes missing in Afghanistan. As all military knows no man left behind leads to some crazy twists and turns. Great reading thanks.
It was a good read. Good pace, good plot. I like this author. His plots are always interesting as he interweaves the "mission" with the political mischief. Also, he doesn't over write the action scenes with pages & pages of blow by blow description of every shot fired or punch thrown.
Twists and turns make this an especially good novel. And, Corps Justice prevails in Afghanistan and Washington, DC. I’ve been reading this genre for several years and CG Cooper is on top of his game here!
Every book in this series grabs you right from the start and holds you to the end. The characters are further developed and new ones introduced. I'm looking forward to the next installment....
Great read! Love this series! On to number 9&10! Can’t get enough of these! My husband read one in ONE DAY! I’m a bedtime reader so not as fast as him. But finished this one at 1:00AM as I couldn’t put it down!
This book kept me reading to the end in one day. I'm a woman in my late sixties, enjoy most genres. This book was a freebie, I'm glad I chose it. It intrigued me and kept my Interest. Looking to and read the series from book 1.
This book was far better than the previous one. I liked having familiar characters and several new ones. Still trying to figure out the purpose of the three new pilots for the new jet. Plenty of action and twists.
