The Golden Blade

Rate this book
A sword of unimaginable power. A hero in need of a miracle. Can he find the mythical blade in time to save his father?

Finn Featherstone never thought that owning a Bizarre Blade would cause this much trouble. After barely controlling his stubborn weapon long enough to rescue his fellow Champions, he’s unsure if his dream of glory is worth the challenge. But when a tyrannical king vows to hunt the hero down, Finn never imagined the enemy would kidnap his father.

With an execution looming, Finn vows to find the fabled Golden Blade to rescue his family. But it’ll take more than courage to survive pirate-infested waters, angry cyclopes, and gargantuan dinosaurs. And if he and his crew somehow make it to their destination alive, he’ll still have to solve a ancient and deadly trial to prove his worth.

Can Finn find the inner strength to retrieve the blade and defeat a vicious king?

Stevie Collier is an International Bestselling Author who writes highly unique... and sometimes strange Fantasy Novels! You won't find a similar style like his anywhere else!

When he isn't writing dark and high fantasy, you can find Stevie at the gym pumping iron or running with his spoiled white Siberian Husk named Spartacus.

He also loves watching movies (Horror, Action, and Comedy) along with a few anime series. Not to mention that he is also an avid gamer! (Currently dying millions of times playing Sekiro... he's a glutton for punishment lol)

He grew up with way too many creative ideas in his head. In his opinion, they were meant to be drawn but... Stevie doesn't know how to draw. That is why he writes! Let him draw a picture for you in your mind.

After reading and loving The Jigsaw Blade, which I reviewed as one of my top reads in a long time, I was eager to jump in to The Golden Blade...Book 2 of the 5 Book Bizarre Blade Series by Stevie Collier.

All I can say is...my mind was blown! And not nearly in the way I expected. Book 1 in this series is an action packed adventure in a prehistoric world, with an emphasis on Dinosaurs, battles and magic. It’s also generally light hearted in the vein of Terry Pratchett and Nicholas Eames.

The Golden Blade is an entirely different beast. This phenomenal novel, represents a dark night of the soul for our hero Finn Featherstone. Finn, in an attempt to rescue his captive father faces an arduous quest to find the mysterious Golden Blade, a powerful Bizarre Blade needed for Finn to achieve his goal. Along the way, his friendships are challenged, he finds true love, he suffers loss in horrible ways, and he constantly questions who he is and his worth as a person, and while Jigsaw Blade dealt with more typical coming of age questioning, this novel delves in to deeper psychological and philosophical territory.

Collier fires on all cylinders in this novel, whether describing the treacherous terrain of the new lands Finn and his companions encounter, exploring the darkness of a character coping with mental health problems, or tastefully opening up to a very real, very intense romance subplot.

As far as the humor found in book 1, there is still some present in this novel, however it is far more nuanced, and less over the top. Much of what occurs in The Golden Blade is simply not worth playing for laughs, and Stevie Collier shows a huge progression in to far more serious themes. And there are still Dinosaurs, but they have also taken a back seat to some brilliant character development

This series has been astounding so far, and with such a vast world, and the promise of three more books I can’t wait to see where Collier chooses to take us next.

It was an enjoyable read. I like the characters but I wish the author would stop writing only from one point of view. He stays with the main character only. Never any development of other characters with their own chapters and parts in the adventures. If the Finn leaves the others behind we don't get to go back and see things from what happens with them. They just show back up again and we hear next to nothing about what they did. Come on Stevie branch out a little and start expanding your writing style. We should have gotten to read some about the adventures of Jade and Saul after they were taken prisoner by the Oomikodaians. Things like that. I know you have it in you and it will help to round out your stories.

This is the second book in this series and is exceptional. The characters are well-developed (some are much loved, others are totally despicable) and the world is amazing. I enjoyed reading the first book in the series as well but this one is even better. It has the perfect combination of quirky, funny, bizarre and touching. I am so excited about book three which I plan to read very soon. I highly recommend The Golden Blade and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I really enjoyed this book and thought that the author built on the first book with improvements everywhere. I flipped between 4 and 5 stars but I settled on 5 because of how improved it was over his first book (which I also enjoyed). The book featured some horror type scenes, plot twists, emotional moments, and big reveals that I enjoyed immensely

Another fun entry in a Bizarrely entertaining series.

The amusing adventures of Finn Featherstone continue but with ever-rising stakes and deadlier consequences. With more tension but no less humor, this is another solid entry in the series.

Fascinating Action

You really never know just where this riveting story is going, but you’re happy to be along for the ride. There’s a lot of great action set in a complex and fascinating world, populated with diverse and rich characters (and events). Recommended, but start with book 1.
