Interesting, but unfulfilling.
By not resolving the budding romance between Cull and Jane, I can only assume there might be more books to come. Without them, I am left unfulfilled and less than satisfied. I like resolution to stories: what happens next in Buffalo Gap, with Sheriff Cull and Jane, and will anybody punch the newspaper man in the chops?
Sorry, but not satisfied with resolution of this story, or rather the "non-resolution" of it. Seems just like lazy writing.

Excellent Reads
I read all four books in the series and once I started the first book I couldn't put it down. Once I finished one it was on to the next. Well written, great storyline, and I felt that I knew each and every character in the stories. Each of the books was an adventure all it's own. I highly recommend that you read each book in the order they were written and you will become a big fan of Robert Peecher just as I have.

Another terrific Cullen Tindall western, and the last one for awhile. Hopefully he will be back. There are railroad tracks being laid and a murder to solve. A Pinkerton agent arrives in town and it looks like the murder victim was another Pinkerton she was there to meet. What are Pinkerton agents doing in Cull's county anyway? Maybe 1/2 million dollars in stolen railroad gold?

Good Honest Western Read

What a awesome story!
I think this might have been my favorite in this series! I loved that little dun mare, who reminded me of a little red dun Quarter mare I had years ago. Great storyline and writing from the author!

DEAD MAN IN THE RAVINE
I've read all four books about Cullen Tindale, Sheriff of Buffalo Gap. Each book seems to improve with how murders are proved. The details are used such as questioning the motives and who is involved..witnesses who prove worthwhile to the investigation.
We are also introduced to The Pinkertons Detective Agency out of Chicago, Illinois. We are definitely moving towards a modernization of law enforcement and women who are hired by this agency. Lots of cases requires approaches only women can perform without any hint of what they are after. This was evident during the Civil War when women were used as spies for both the North and South.
This particular murder we are introduced to a female detective who Cull feels a bit apprehensive about her abilities under fire. But throughout this who done it, the female detective proves her strength and determination to solve the case.
I hope Mr. Robert Peecher, author of this series will continue with Sheriff Cull Tindale, Deputy Emmett Brewer, Jane Gooch, Doc and the others who live in and around Buffalo Gap. The western mysteries are enjoyable, there's constant action and mysterious characters who appear suddenly riding into town, dusty and tired. Stopping at one of the saloons for a drink of "head buster" or a cold beer.
I hope he's working or thinking about another Sheriff Cull Tindale adventure.
