I enjoyed visiting with the guys from Ranger Ops, this is the second story in the Ranger Ops series. You don't have to read the first story, At Close Range, to be able to understand and enjoy this story, but it is good to remember all the guys in the group and what they have been going through. The characters in this story, and series, are like reading about the people you already know. Very good story line. I like when the issues of Veterans issues and problems are addressed. We forget about the guys who have fought for our freedoms.

In this story, Shaw had to watch the woman he loves walk down the isle to another man. He did what he had to do and told her how he felt before she walked down the isle, but she didn't want to hear what he had to say. She told him to go away and she never wanted to see him again. He transferred away so he wouldn't have to watch her with his old best friend. He then was recruited to Ranger Ops. He has seen and done some things that he can't get out of his head and it is affecting his job. He has to see a shrink to get it right before something happens and someone else gets hurt. When he walks in to his new shrink, he didn't expect to find his love there.

Atalee married her guy. Then as soon as the honeymoon was over, he lost interest in her. She doesn't know if it was him or if it was because of the things Shaw said before they got married. Did she jinx it for herself or what? Now that the divorce is settled, she can get on with her career as a psychologist to help Vets with their problems. When she sees Shaw walk into her office, she is thrown. When she sees the scars on his body, she wonders what he has been through in the missing years. Can she deal with him leaving at any time without knowing if he will come back alive?

Timing is everything

Shaw and Atalee meet again as therapist and patient. The last time they saw each other was as she walked down the aisle to his best friend.
Shaw left but the last few years have taken a toll, PTSD from his career.
Atalee has had her own pain of a failed marraige to deal with.
Is there a chance for these two damaged souls to to finally have a chance at the future they should have had? Or will careers, fears and more prove to much?
Really great characters and the author handled a sensative subject that many deal with today in a fantastic way. Well donem

Shaw is a member of the Ranger Ops and has some PTSD issues. He watched the woman he loved marry his friend Johnny. He is at the VA for a visit to a therapist that turns out to be the very woman he can't get over. Atalee is a therapist at the VA with a marriage and divorce behind her. She wants to help people. A shock is in store when Shaw turns out to be her patient. Will the couple be able to give things a chance this time? A good read with real life issues.

Again I'm reading a series out of order. With this one I think I might have been better off starting with the first book. I'm not quite sure of how a Texas Ranger becomes part of Ranger Ops which appears to be far more military in nature.

That said this book does address some PTSD issues that the hero Shaw is experiencing. He does however have a history with the woman assigned as his therapist.

Atalee was about to marry his friend Johnny, when at the urging of his father, Shaw tells her he's always loved her and to go through with the marriage would be a mistake. Somehow the words Shaw spoke that day never left her and now divorced with her degree and a new position at the VA Atatee is building a new life. The life she had planned before her disaster of a marriage.

Because of the alias used for the appointment Atalee didn't know it was Shaw that was her patient. So many memories surface including the kiss he gave her that fateful day.

The nature of his job with Ranger Ops has him leaving on missions at a moments notice, and appointments are missed even though in all actuality Atalee can't be his therapist because of their connection.

Atalee decides to stop by his place after a couple of appointments have been missed. What she finds surprises her.

Of course things don't go completely smooth, but they mostly do as far as the relationship goes. He doesn't go for therapy though and he actually finds help in a totally different environment.

We also meet Shaw's father and Atalee's mother who seem to strike up their own sort of relationship.

Slow revelations and white hot heat along with interesting glimpses of missions. Plus a nice lead in to what I presume will be the next book in this series.

I definitely have to go back to read the first book in this series for a better understanding of Ranger Ops in general.

Shaw has a difficult mission with his Ranger Ops unit and his captain is forcing him to get help. He didn’t expect to see the woman he loved in the shrink’s office he went to. Attlee’s marriage failed and loves her work. She wants to help Shaw and there are still sparks between them. Will this be their second chance? Fast-paced read with great chemistry and a story with lots of drama and emotion. I really liked it.

Shaw Woodward is an ex-Texas Ranger turned Special Ops for the Homeland Security. Two years ago he spoke up for the woman he loved-- at her own wedding to his best friend-- and was soundly rejected. Atalee Franklin is the love of his life and knowing that she will never be his just about flays him. Transfering out of the Texas Rangers and into being a Special Operative for Ranger Ops is exactly what he needs as a diversion and to move forward with his life. He loves the action and adrenalin rush. What he does not expect is for the killing of a terrorist to weigh heavily on his heart and mess with his mind during future missions. He needs help ASAP or next mission it could be one of his teammates being killed due to his mind games. Admitting that it is time to see a shrink is not easy. Walking in and seeing that the shrink assigned to help is the woman who after 2 years still holds the key to his heart? Is life giving him a second chance or playing a sick joke on him? Can Shaw find it within himself to be brave enough to open his damaged mind and heart up to a woman who literally crushed him in the past?

I am absolutely loving author Em Petrova's Ranger Ops series! There is nothing like a seriously hot Alpha male who is not afraid to show the one they love that they are flawed and vulnerable. The characters are well developed, raw and relatable. The plot is interesting and well defined. Shaw and Atalee's sexual chemistry is through the roof HOT! Honestly, there is not one thing about "Within Range"not to like!

I would love to give more stars if I could. I just love this series. I was a HUGE fan of the Knight Ops series and was depressed once all the Knights had their story told. I am so glad that Ms. Petrova developed the Ranger Ops series.

While you don't have to read the first story to read this one, I would highly encourage that it be read first. There is a section here were Shaw and Atalee go to a park. He pulls her to sit on his lap and a man appears at his window. Well after all is said and done and a few other Ranger Op men come to back-up Shaw, Nate as the leader questions Atalee to give details. As she describes what happens, Nash turns to Shaw and his comment just blew me away. I had to stop reading as I was laughing so hard I almost snorted like a pig!

Atalee and Shaw are two great characters. I just adored reading their story. I really get depressed when I see the words, "The End". Say what?! Couldn't it have been extended for another 10 years?!

The dual POV format really was a joy here. Atalee and Shaw are so in love and reading their thoughts really were cute at times.

This is a steamy read so I recommend for 18+ readers.

Shaw and Atalee have history and not the good kind.

In the beginning when Shaw approaches Atalee on her wedding day and drops a major bomb on her, I couldn't believe it. Who does that??!!! I understood Shaw's reasons for telling her but he had to wait until moments before she says I do.

Atalee was a woman who was trying to move on from a divorce and get her life back together. She has a job that she loves and is very passionate about it. She has a great relationship with her mother. However one day a patient shows up that she wasn't expecting and she has to put all her past feelings for him aside because this is a man who needs professional help.

Shaw has been asked to do many things but one thing he had to do in order to save his life and that of his teammates haunts him and put further missions in jeopardy. Knowing that he needs help, he takes the first step, not knowing it will put him in the path of a past love.

Watching these two navigate a new relationship and hitting a grey area of patient/therapist relationships was fun to read. Atalee wanted him to go and see someone else once a romantic relationship started but Shaw was a private man and only talked when he wanted/where he wanted.

I highly recommend this book.

Shaw is a Texas Ranger turned Special Ops team member. He never expected his missions to get to his head this much, especially one mission where he killed a terrorist. And so he decides it's time to see a shrink before the PTSD can cause him to mess up during a mission and be a danger to his brothers in arms.
What he expected even less was to see Atalee, the woman he's been in love with forever - the one who he confessed his feelings to the day of her wedding - the one who rejected him. She's his new therapist and it's bringing back all sorts of feelings.

Atalee got married, yet Shaw's words never truly left her. One failed marriage behind, she decides to throw herself fully into her profession, never expecting to come across the man she can't get out of her head again. So when she gets a new patient, one who is using an alias, she doesn't expect Shaw at all.

The conflict of interest is there, yet she can't seem to help herself from crossing professional lines, despite her best efforts to solely be a therapist for a man in need.

This was an interesting ride that I certainly enjoyed. Can't wait for the next one.

I loved this intense and emotional romance!

Shaw laid his heart at Atalee's feet just before she married his best friend, Johnny. Two years later, she and Johnny are divorced, she's working for the VA, and Shaw's last mission has spun him around to the point where he needs a little direction to find his center again. As chances have it, he walks into Atalee's office for counseling but leaves with a plan to make full use of his second chance with her.

What could have been a simple second-chance romance turns out to be so much more because Shaw's job is the very definition of unpredictable. Their love story is so beautifully told against the backdrop of the ongoing missions that continue to mess with Shaw's focus and the new worries that Atalee has to deal with as the partner of a spec-ops team member.

This story is so much more than expected as we learn more about the Ranger Ops team, their missions, their members, and the risks they take in the line of duty. If you love military heroes like I do, this series should be on your must-read list, and this book is a fine place to start. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

I love Em Petrova's military men series and thoroughly enjoyed the Knight Op series which is mentioned in this series This new series is a carry on from that the men of Ranger Op are not military they are all Texas Rangers but they have also been formed into a unit to combat terrorism on the continental USA

This is Shaw and Atalee's story He declared his love for her the day she was meant to walk down the aisle to marry his best friend and she wasn't impressed with him at all. So he took himself away from her environment and got himself a new posting with the Texas Rangers now he is part of a elite group but the last mission as caused him to need counselling. Imagine his horror when he turns up for his first session and discovers she is his counsellor. She realises he was correct and Johnny wasn't the man for her and now divorced she is trying to build herself a new life. Will they be able to get over their past together Will they have a future together and what will happen when danger stalks them You will have to read to see Now hanging out waiting for the next book in this wonderful series

The story of Shaw Woodward and Atalee Franklin draws you in from the first page. Two years previous Shaw watched Atalee (the love of his life) marry another man. Now, two years later Atalee is divorced and working in the same city as Shaw. She is a psychologist who is assigned to treat Shaw for things he cannot forget that he has done for the unit he is with - the Ranger Ops - a special forces group that defends the USA from terrorists. They both realize the strong feelings they have for each other and fall quickly into love. Shaw opens up to her and tells her his problems and she tries to help him deal with his feelings. There are plenty of ups and downs with this book and it flows perfectly. It is a great addition to this series and well worth reading. There is drama, suspense and lots of romance and steamy sex! It is full blown incinerating. Hang on for an intense ride - it is a sexually charged book. The characters jump off the pages. I highly recommend it. Another hit out of the ballpark for Em Petrova - She never fails to satisfy. I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily chose to review. Enjoy!

Shaw went to Atalee and Johnny's wedding to tell her that he's been in love with her and Johnny cant love her like she deserves. Atalee tell Shaw to leave and she doesn't want to see him again. Shaw puts in for a transfer out if the Texas Rangers and leaves.
Atalee finishes college and finds a job as a therapist and is perfectly fine with her life, except for the tiny fact that she can't forget Shaw and what he told her. Atalee and Johnny get divorced after only 2 years of marriage.
Shaw is in danger of losing his job because he can't get past an incident in Mexico. His boss tells him he needs to get help. He goes and finds Atalee is his therapist.
Now what happens next you are going to have to read because I don't want to give anything away. I will say that this is an extremely HOT book that grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let you go until the end.
This is my opinion of this story and I can't wait to read the next one.

Second chance Military Romance

I really enjoyed this second chance story between Shaw (Woody) and Atalee, the love of his life who two years ago married another man. In the two years since that fateful day much as changed. Atalee is now divorced, Shaw is suffering severe PTSD after a Ranger Ops went bad. Both are trying to move on with their lives and neither are prepared for the moment he walks into her office needing therapy. Is it possible to be his therapist and help him through his darkest days when all she wants is to be in his arms. Can she provide the light and unconditional love he so desperately needs. Will they both be strong enough to embrace this second chance that fate has given them. This is an interesting book that strikes the right balance between action and romance. All the characters are enjoyable and believable. I really wanted our couple after everything they had been through to find their HEA. Another fine book from this author, thoroughly recommended.

Oh, I loved Shaw and Atalee. Years ago, Shaw confessed his love to her at her wedding to his then-friend. She refused him and he hadn’t seen her since. After the events of book 1, he’s left with some PTSD and finally relents and sets an appointment to see a therapist. That happens to be Atalee. His love for her can’t be contained anymore and she realizes he’s the one she should have been with. Now they try for real this time while dealing with issues and her fear of losing him because of his job. This had some action, friendship, and so many sexy times. But it also touches upon real issues with vets now a days and it was written beautifully without dragging it out. I also love that we get to see our past characters and get glimpses into their lives and continue to develop the others’. I can’t wait to see how Linc is doing and for his story.

I am a HUGE fan of Em Petrova’s. I have read every one of the Knight Ops books and this new Ranger Ops Series is turning out to be just as good. The men are all handsome, strong, intense and passionate about their women. Shaw was in love with his friend Johnny’s fiancée Atalee, and the day of her wedding just before she walked down the aisle, he confessed his love to Atalee and told her she was making a big mistake by marrying Johnny. That Johnny would never make her as happy as he would. She went through with the wedding and now she’s was single again having divorced Johnny. When Shaw and Atalee’s path cross again, he is still deeply in love with her but now she’s his therapist. A wonderful story of deep love that never died, with dangerous missions, dark secrets to overcome and suspenseful moments. Another fantastic read.

An engaging second chance romance.💞💖💞

Shaw has spent the last two years trying to get over falling in love with his best friends' fiancée, Atalee. He tried telling her that he was in love with her but she didn't handle his timing well. Literally right before she was supposed to walk down the aisle to be married. So, he did the only thing he could do... he got a transfer for his job and moved away from them. Too bad fate had something more planned for them.😉💗🔥💕

This book had my emotions all over the place for both Shaw and Atalee. It does deal with PTSD, so be fair warned it that can be a trigger for you. But it's dealt with in such an amazing manner that it helps both of them heal. 💓

This is the second book in the Ranger Ops series and it is connected to the Knight Ops series. Although it can be read as a standalone, it does read better in the order it was written.❤️️

Em Petrova has proven that not only are spin-off series viable, but that the second book in said series can be even better than the first! Within Range is a heartfelt and emotional read, that showcases the devastation inflicted on a soldier’s mental health from the immeasurable loss caused by war, and the soul deep longing he has for a woman who effortlessly broke his heart.

A storyline with depth and hope, and a passion that ignites the true romantic in us all, Within Range is definitely a keeper. The character portrayals are believable and engaging, with Shaw and Atalee front and centre to reel us all in; and the world building adds substance to the background story and the lives that are now affected by events of the past. This is most certainly one of my favourites reads this year, and I’m eager as always for the next exciting addition to this series.

This second book in the Ranger Ops series can be read as a standalone.

After reading the prologue, I was pleasantly surprised when Shaw and Atalee reconnected with such ease. I expected there to be more angst involved and was happy when the angst did not appear.

This was a second chance romance so to speak. Shaw and Atalee got the chance to figure out who the other person had become during their separation.

There was plenty of danger and action, some of which Atalee got to experience with Shaw. There was also the the love, romance, and abundance of steamy scenes. Let's not forget the friendship, loyalty, and brotherhood of Ranger Ops that often integrated with Knight Ops. All in all, a good, fast paced read.

Shaw is part of an off the grid government team. He was recruited from the Texas Rangers to Ranger Ops which is like Knight Ops in Louisiana. They go on specialty missions where there is no accountability of their existence. Shaw approaches Attlee before her wedding to his ex-friend to tell her he loves her and not to get married. She said no and was divorcing in two years. She has pursued her dream of being a psychologist and gets a job with the VA. Shaw had a bad experience on his last mission and needs to straighten his head out and get some perspective. So guess who turns out to be his therapist. They start dating and he is still deploying on these hush hush missions. Full of action and excitement. Well written and great read and continuation of the Ops teams.

This is sweet, romantic, steamy and heartbreaking. Shaw is intense, amusing, tough and sweet. Atalee is stubborn, caring and protective. After trying to get the woman he loves, Atalee, to run away from her wedding to his friend to go with him, and her turning him down, he transfers to a different part of the state, then gets asked to join Ranger Ops. 2 years later he's in need of a shrink, and accidentally ends up with her. Now divorced, Atalee can't believe that she now has a chance to be with Shaw. Shaw's a little broken, but she's willing to do whatever she has to to make him better. While out on an op we get a quick visit from a couple of Knights, which makes a great book even better. This series is more intense than the Knight Ops series, but still has it's amusement.

Oh my God!! This book was amazing. I Loved Shaw! I’m a huge sucker for Em Petrova books and I love how she writes her alpha sexy men, but Shaw was something else.(although I have a feeling that Linc’s story may top even Shaw’s!) Seeing a different, more everyday human side to Shaw was refreshing, we all know that Ranger Ops go in and do a lot of tough dirty work, but to see how a life or death situation that he made effected him was adding a whole new element to the series. I also liked how it was the general topic for the majority of the book just very few actual conversations were had about it, so very alpha man like, dealing in their own way. I loved Knight Ops cameo role and Ben’s wise words.
All round perfect and now I can’t wait for Linc’s story after what happened to him in this one.

First love, second chance

Shaw was in love with Atalee but she was marrying his best friend. Right before she walked down the aisle, he declared his love and kissed her. She rebuffed him but never forgot the kiss. Shaw puts in a request for a transfer and becomes a Texas ranger special ops. Two years later, he's having PTSD and decides to get help. He signs up under a false name & he's assigned to A false who is the newest therapist at the VA. When they see each other, the old feelings come rushing forward even though they were always there. They connect and are trying to make it work but danger keeps following them. Will they be able to stay together? I liked this story and it deals with the problems that the people who protect us have. I haven't read the first book yet but don't feel like I've missed anything.

What a great addition to this series. This book is part of a series and can be read as a stand alone. This book features Shaw and Atalee. We get to see the ups and downs of their relationship and their HEA. Written as a 3rd person, multi pov. This book is steamy! Entertaining! Amazing!

We get to see characters from the previous book, but they do not take over the book. Strong story line, awesome characters, fantastic descriptions to detail, and engaging dialogue. All in all, a great read.

Bout Time! Good things come to those who wait. And think. And wait! Shaw took his shot and misfired. Then karma or fate gives him a second chance. It takes courage to re-enter battle after being wounded. And this has nothing to do with Ranger Ops duties. Atalee made a mistake. She didn't follow her gut. Could she learn something from the Rangers? On her wedding day, Shaw declared his undying love for her. Problem was, she was about to marry his fellow Ranger, friend. Now, he they reunite. Atalee as therapist, Shaw as her patient. Do they have the wisdom/courage to open that unlocked door? Excellent story. I feel excited to read the rest of the series. Nicely done! "Within Range" has many great things in the telling of Shaw and Atalees story, that once started, I read it straight through. An engaging story from page one, there is suspense, romance, steamy scenes, heartbreak, and some PTSD, to name a few. With some of the other Rangers involved in the story, there is a feeling of camaraderie and family. Shaw and Atalee's story flows without effort, making it a page turner for me. As this is my first read by Em Petrova, I found a new author, and look forward to reading more of her work. I patiently wait for the next book in the 'Ranger Ops' series. **Booksprout gifted me a copy of "Within Range" and I voluntarily leave my honest opinion based on my reading** 4.5 Stars!
