The Secrets by. S. L. Fon is a very quick read at 62 pages. Maggie (Mimi) Roche had raised son Dylan on her own. Dylan knew his dad had died, but it was when he was approximately two years old, so there was no grieving or adverse effects on Dylan. Margaret and Dylan had a good relationship with his mother until cancer killed her. Dylan, now living on his own as a management trainee struggling to pay off student debt, receives an envelope full of cash from mourners at Margaret’s funeral and a mysterious note. Dylan is to meet the family attorney.

Henderson, family attorney, is willing to provide as much information as he deems necessary, but readers know he is holding back for some reason. Dylan will be directed to go to a huge estate to meet the overly wealthy Carol Marino, Dylan’s grandmother. With daughter Maggie dead and Carol surviving at an advanced age, the concern is how to pass on the state and large associated corporation to the next heir, presumably Dylan.

Dylan will meet a friend of his mother’s, Father Philip, and a posthumous email from his mom warning him to be careful of everyone associated with the family. Dylan also wonders about a key given to him by his mom. What does it go to? Dylan has no idea.

The story is about greed. Not to say Dylan is greedy, but someone is. With lots of money in play, the race is on to find out the meaning of the key and what it may unlock.

This work is a prequel novel to a series so reviewers should not adversely criticize plot holes in this short read. They have a purpose. Continue reading the Mirror Estate series by S. L. Fon to fill information gaps and enjoy a longer read. I will read at least one of the author’s longer reads because this was entertaining but lacked any depth of content as far as plot, character, or setting. There are enough hints that a longer novel might do this and I will risk time on at least one later novel. By itself, this novel is merely OK, and I gave it three Amazon stars. It is available on Kindle Unlimited, so I was not unhappy with the price of the free read.

Very good!

This was a very short story, a novella, but it packed a good punch for the size of it.

A young man, attending college to study business management, loses his beloved Mother to cancer. Shortly after he receives this strange visitor who informs him that his Mother was the daughter of a wealthy family, and they would like to meet their grandson. His Mother had told him that his grandparents were deceased, and thus begins his journey of surprise and suspense.

Very good character development for such a short tale and it covered all the bases, including a surprise twist at the end. I thoroughly enjoyed it, from start to finish and I would recommend it. It only took me a couple of hours to read the entire story, but I doubt you will regret giving it a moment of your time.

A short story about Dylan who meets his grandmother for the first time after his mother dies. The meeting takes a sinister turn.

The plot didn't make much sense to me. Not to give anything away but somebody hides someone's baby so somebody could accomplish something a generation later. Talk about a long con.

Kindle version.
Took less than an hour to read.
A kid loses his mom to cancer and finds out that her family, which she has never visited or talked about, is alive and wants him to take over the family business, which may or may not be shady.
Turns out there is also a secret twin who appears to him as a ghostly image of his mother.
For a prequel, it was ok.

Disappointing!

There is mystery but too many loose ends for a good story. It had potential to be a good book but the author failed to produce, instead, created a short mystery that was too short.

Unexpected inheritance

Lots of drama and family mysteries. Don't know where this estate was located?? Some estate it was! This book seemed entirely too short short. The ending was so predictable. Not a very satisfying book!

lame story

Hard to follow the shenanigans in the story. Not very interesting, and not easy to figure out what they’re trying to tell us. I wouldn’t even consider reading whatever this novel it was leading up to

Interesting

Not enough answers, too many Grammer mistakes.
Everything happened to fall into place too fast, could have been a really interesting full length novel.

Weak

The author left a lot to be explained. It was hard to believe Dylan could have acted the way the author described.
