Dare the Ghosts
Chris is hesitant as he and Nadeema enter the dark building. Although she encourages him, he keeps expecting something supernatural and terrifying to happen. And yet, nothing happens as they press deeper into the building led by only the small beam of Nadeena’s flashlight. When they reach their destination, Chris realizes his girlfriend has brought him into a church. She wants the ghosts of men and women long dead to witness the things about to happen on the stage floor between two lovers. Nervous or not, Chris does not control his bodies response as Nadeema entices him from the floor.
About the Author
Carrie Laben grew up in western New York and earned her MFA at the University of Montana. She now lives in Queens. Her work has appeared in such venues as Birding, Clarkesworld, Indiana Review, and Okey-Panky, and has been nominated for the Shirley Jackson Award. In 2015 she was selected for the Anne LaBastille Memorial Writer’s Residency.
