This review will be about the last book in this series, but will also cover my overall thoughts on the 12 books as a whole!!!
what in the seven hells was that ending 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 SOOO RUSHED MY WORST FEARS CAME TRUE.... The ending was very very rushed. Built up over the course of 12 meandering books, you'd think the ending would be given time to breathe, but nope!!! not at all!!!!! sorely disappointing.
however.
I really liked this series. it was super super fun to read, and I was thoroughly invested. Unfortunately, what I was invested in the most (DYLAN AND KAT NOT ENDING UP TOGETHER BECAUSE I FREAKING HATE DYLAN 😭😭😭😭 okayyy hate is a strong word: i merely think he is annoying) didn't come to pass, and I learn that the next series in this world follows THEIR DAUGHTER???? (Kind of hype honestly-- really might pick those books up someday!!)
My biggest wish was that the ending hadn't been rushed so much. But, this was one of my favorite books in the series because of the lack of Dylan-- distance makes the heart grow fonder, and I prefer them all missing him to him actually being in their midst. Ugh!! He's just so controlling and annoying, but those are issues almost each man in this series has. Kailas is probably the smallest offender on this front, with Dylan being the worst.
That brings me to another issue I had with the last half of the series. In the first couple of books, Tanya was SOOO important. In the last few... She was BARELY there. There for offhand quips and threats, with barely nothing of substance. It pissed me off very badly because this happened to Sera too-- the last books, sans like three scenes, felt very much like Kat and the Men in Her Life, not, the five destined heroes and their family.
ALSO THERE'S SO MUCH INCONSISTENCY IN THESE BOOKS REGARDING TIMELINES it's soooo bad. Has the group been together for months or years? It changes each passage!! Ughhhh!!!! Was a little funny though.
Okay, rant NOT over, but I'll move on. This series was very fun through and through, funny and tender and fast paced with high stakes and many great characters. I like it a lot, and I am glad I took the time to read it. Both the time and money spent on it were well worth it, and it's clear that oceans of love and enthusiasm were poured into writing it. If I'd read this in middleschool I know it would've become formative-- as it is, I ate it up anyways.
Something I want to briefly mention is that I'm soooo sooo glad there was no sex on page in this whole series. This might sound ridiculous but it was a huge relief 😭😭😭😭!!!!!!!! The short page count of each book wasn't squandered, for the most part. I liked the tension and romance and heart-pounding desire in this book, and found it so so so pleasant to read.
Okayyyyy. Resolved rating: 2.75 stars, would have easily been 4 if the ending hadn't been rushed. The Queen's Alpha series rating: 3.5 stars. Very fun, I like it a lot, but there are some glaring issues in my eyes that keep it from being 4 stars.
