Entertaining way to improve your vocabulary
Enjoyed the stories, though they can be a bit contrived to get the point across or fit in more examples. I would call it more intermediate than beginner

Not as advertised
Man, was this book a disappointment! It claims to have “engaging” stories. They’re not even stories! A proper short story has a conflict and a resolution. These don’t. I could’ve written better stories myself! Even though the ebook only cost $6, it was still $6 wasted.

Apesar de que este livro nem sempre tenha histórias interessantes, posso dizer que ele me ajudou melhorar meu vocabulário e conhecimento de gramática. Eu recomendaria para iniciantes.

‘Uma viagem con amigos' – 'A trip with friends’
Lingo Mastery has embarked on a mission – to make Portuguese more accessible to a wider population. In the Introductory Note the goal is stated well: ‘Learning a new language can be compared to starting to swim as a child; it’s actually one of the best analogies you can make about it. At first, you’ll stand on the shore or the edge of the pool and look at that great mass of liquid, wondering just how you’re going to start. After all, if you don’t get it right, you’ll start drowning and your interest in learning probably won’t last much longer after that. So you wait patiently and lick your lips in anticipation. Finally, you dare to make a move and jump inside. What you do next will decide just what kind of a person you are. I use this comparison because many people are too afraid to dare to jump into that pool and take a chance at learning a new tongue — a language that can open new doors for you in your future and become a tool that you’ll use to communicate with an entirely fresh community. There are over 260 million Portuguese speakers in the world and many of the biggest companies in the world will value a worker that speaks two languages. Each of the twenty stories follows the pattern Summary of the story, Vocabulary Questions about the story, and Answers. Or as the authors state, ‘Each story will tell a different tale involving unique, deep characters with their own personalities and conflicts, while ensuring that you understand the objective of the particular language device in Portuguese. Verbs, Pronouns, Nouns, Directions, Time and Date: all of it will be covered in this Basic-level book for Beginners. At no point will we introduce concepts too difficult for you to grasp, and any complicated vocabulary will be studied at the end of each story.’
The stories vary, as do the lessons taught. This is a very fine introduction to Brazilian Portuguese, appropriate for all age levels, and a book much needed at this time in our national status!

Listened to the audiobook.
I should say that Brazilian portuguese is my mother’s language so I have been exposed to it since an early age. Despite that fact, I don’t live in a Portuguese speaking environment, and my immersion is minimal. My level is hard to pinpoint since I never received formal education, however my comprehension is at an intermediate level, so is my listening and speaking.
With that in mind, I chose this audiobook for immersion material, for something to listen to while I’d do my date tasks at work. It was fun, and it definitely helped me learn a lot of expressions and boost some vocabulary. However, I don’t think this falls into the “targeted towards beginners” category. For beginners, the stories and vocab might be overwhelming. For intermediate and higher, the stories are just not engaging enough… despite that, I still treated it as a study material, and it definitely has helped me. The narrator has nice and clear voice and pronunciation.
Feedback for the audiobook: I would recommend the questions section to be followed by each question’s answer right after the options are given, because if the listener doesn’t have pen and paper at hand, there’s no way to remember whether they had selected a, b or c option a few minutes ago.

I have learned Brazilian Portuguese to be able to communicate with Brazilians on our journeys to Brazil (we have been there 3x already). We already have some friends there, so I am happy I am able to talk with them. Reading this book was just a small part of what I have been doing to improve my knowledge.
I did not just "read" it but tried to learn with it. Having the vocabulary and the multiple-choice test at the end is a nice add-on. While reading the stories, my knowledge has improved, so I am sure to get back to them once again.

I enjoyed it
It can be a bit of a struggle reading some of the passages, but otherwise, I enjoyed it. The stories were mostly easy to follow. Aside from a word or two I didn’t understand, I easily followed it. It’s always fun learning new words and most importantly, enjoying the reading material you can find.
I definitely recommend this to anyone trying to learn Portuguese.
