“Even monsters could love.”

And PJ is back at it again with another heart breaking and beautiful story.
Now, Elias was a character I didnt know how to feel about in Where Puppets Hide, truth be told I did wanna punch him a few times, and more in Where Rogues Hide (in the beginning) But this story really lets you see his character. See every struggle he faces. He acts the way he does out of fear. You see his conflcitions as he fights not only himself but also that wicked father of his. And you truly understand why he pushed everyone away once the truth is uncovered - that he is slowly dying. I love how he blooms and begins to open up and you truly see his true self.
I also love how you really get to see the bond between him and his uncle, Atticus. Behind the mask he wears for his father, Elias truly cares for his uncle. You see this much more in Where Rogues Hide and I’m glad this was explored more.
Elias opens up so much more throughout the book, and you see just how kind he can be beneath the act of the cruel prince. I enjoyed the scenes where he was throwing mud at Atticus and Ava. Where Isaac, Him, and Ava swam in the lake. It’s scenes like those that truly show the goodness he has. And the scene where he took Ava back to the Nightinggale and let’s her see her parents. And how he took care of them without her knowing.
Avangeline’s back story is heart breaking. I love that PJ does not shy away from hard topics. Topics that need to be spoke more about. She is definitely a character with a troubled past but didn’t let it break her. In a way I could relate to her backstory, being touched in a way I never wished for, so I thank PJ for writing this.
Now to our healer and our little violinist. Oh how I missed these two in WRH. I know that this wasn’t their story, it was Avagenlines, but I couldn’t help that small part of me that wanted a grand reunion between Nadya and Atticus and Luna.
And then we got this simple sentence that brought tears to my eyes; “Sleeping soundly beside the fire were two figures: Luna wrapped in the arms of his heart, Nadya.”
Also, Isaac is a precious cinnamon roll. And the scene where we know his character is dead truly broke my heart. I was not expecting that death and it shocked me. Elias’s (Alex’s) death hurt, Atticus’s death hurt more. We all knew Elias’s time was coming, but Atticus’s death was a shock. And while I read it, I couldn’t believe it. I kept thinking, no any moment now he’ll be okay. He’ll come back.
The part where Alex (Elias) got to see his unborn daughter brought tears to my eyes. How he finally got his little family with Isaac. And they could live without fear. They would be together and they would be happy.
But the last sentence of the book gives me hope that our three rogues come back in some way. And perhaps they’re in Where Creatures Hide. I’ll have to read that to find out the answer for myself.
All in all, another 5 out of 5 stars to the wonderful PJ.

"For my Raven and Dragonfly. You are not alone" - PJ Shepard, Where Rogues Hide

When Avangeline is chosen to sire the princes child, she agrees and is thrown into a world completely different to her own. She knows a child is her ticket to freedom and a comfortable life for her and her parents but as she spends more time in the castle with the prince and his uncle, she learns there is alot more to it than just a need for an heir. She wasn't chosen because she couldn't do this, she was chosen because she could.

✔ Amazing Imagery
✔ Unique story & Unique Magic
✔ Multiple Povs
✔ Love is Love
✔ Incredible twists
✔ Deals with multiple important issues

I am obsessed with this book! Each chapter either left me feeling warm and fuzzy, utterly heart broken, blindsided or sobbing in a corner. PJs has this beautiful and eerie writting style that sucks you right in. She creates these worlds that blow you away and charecters that you fall utterly in love with. I became so lost in the story and so connected to the charecters It actually hurt me to see them suffer. This book deals with so much; there's love, addiction, friendship, bravery, truama, and a whole lot of magic. It is unlike anything I've read before and i will miss all my babies... until the next book...

This is the final book in the Hide trilogy. They are said to be companion books to one another, but I think, if you want to feel the full effect of this series and these characters, you’d better read all three books. The way they link up is brilliant, and all the foreshadowing had me on the edge of my seat.

I said I was sure Puppets would be my fave even after finishing Rogues, but now that I’ve finished Rogues, I’m pretty sure it’s my fave. Seriously, each book is better than the last. I think Puppets still has my favourite setting - a freaking circus! - but Rogues’ plot was so flipping insane, and tragic, it can’t be beat.

Ok, let’s break it down.

First: plot. Like I said, it’s insane. It’s a fairly long book, but there’s a lot of story in it. The ending is absolutely crazy, but there are bits all throughout the book that will shock and disturb readers. As a writer myself, I’ve always had trouble putting my characters in extreme danger. It seems PJ doesn’t have that problem. She puts them through everything. It’s incredible, and tragic, and I live and die for it. There were bits I thought may have been a bit slow, but in the end, each scene helped to make the ending more impactful.

Next: characters. If you’ve read either of the other books in this series, you’d have met some of these characters before. But you don’t know them, not truly, until you read this. There were some characters I HATED at the beginning of this book. And now I would literally take a bullet for them. Sounds dramatic. But it’s true. I kinda don’t want to say anything specific, because you should all go in blind. Or with preconceived opinions about certain characters. The shock will be more intense that way. But yeah. Great characters. Ok I’ll give one specific - Isaac is my fave.

Third: world. Ok so the idea of puppet souls is really great, and I stick by what I said in my review of Creatures. It kinda blew me away when I finally understood what PJ meant by creating them. The concept of Marama and the sun & moon god/goddess is also really clever, and ok there’s a bit in Rogues where one character references Marama and it makes me cryyyyy.

Fourth: writing. There’s a really nice vibe throughout this book, and the two previous books. It’s a bit eerie, kinda creepy, but also magical and a bit whimsical. Kinda like being at a carnival at night, and the icy wind slowly turns the carousel around, while children sing a slowed down version of ring-a-ring o’ rosy in the distance. That atmospheric. Yeah. There are some phrases and words that are a bit overused, and also some sentences that kinda took me out of the story a little because I had to think if it used the correct word there. That’s the main reason for not giving five stars. But there were also some really beautiful phrases too, and that overall chilling vibe.

Overall, as you can tell, I really enjoyed this book. And this series as a whole. My recommendation to you is to read Puppets first, then Creatures, then Rogues. That way you’ll get the full impact of the world, the story, and the characters. And with each book, PJ’s writing improves so much, so I can’t wait to see what she brings out next.

Omg I absolute love it. This had got to be my fave one yet. I knew evangeline had a special bond with Xavier but damn I had no clue that it would be like this. Also that plottwist at the end mhmhmmmm I had no idea.

I had only 50 pages left and I read them at home because I needed to finish it😭😭😭😭 and that i did. I loved it so much and it really makes me nervous and excited for the next book. And like, I might read where creatures hide AGAIN since I read where puppets hide as well.

This book gripped me by the feels and held on. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the entirety of the story and the characters pulled at my heartstrings. Characters I disliked in the previous books, I came to love dearly. PJ Shepherd engulfs your into her universe and allows it to swallow you whole. I'm obsessed and cannot wait for the next story in this saga!

A girl, ordinary. Human. Simple. But brave. So, so brave. This book is the story of this girl. How she brings life into the world of Rogues and puppets and creatures. How she saves the world and sacrifices everything she is for it. It's about love and hope and happiness and sorrow and struggle. More than anything, it's about family. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
First of all, a huge thanks to the author for this ARC in exchnage of an honeys review. Thanks a lot, PJ! And no, I won't forgive you for breaking my heart like that but we can still be friends. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Where Rogues Hide has a very bottle episode-y feel to it. A lot of the story relies on the characters and their development, so the world and the elements remain a little untouched. While this was an issue for me, I can't deny that the characters really made up for it. Because they were really compelling and real and human, despite not being so. And I could connect to them really strongly. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The writing in this novel is beautiful. I love love love Pj's style. And I've said it before - objectively more beautiful than a lot of mainstream authors. But, there were also points where a few of her faults stuck out like sore thumbs simply because her writing WAS so beautiful everywhere else. And that took out from the experience for me a little. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I liked how, despite the length and the slow pacing of the plot, I didn't really want to put the book down. And the last 100 pages of this book are a damn rollercoaster ride and I enjoyed every bit of it!!! If I were to rate only that part, it'd be 5/5! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Overall, I really enjoyed this novel. Like, a lot. Thank you, PJ! And breathe, because you're never alone. ❤️

This one is by far my favorite out of the 3 books. Once I realized that this book had nothing really to do with the first, it made it easier to get into. I knew from what Ava said in book 1 and how Atticus was in book 2 that there was something deeper and truer about Elias. My heart was not prepared. How much he hid from his father and how strong that truly made him. Ava has got to be one of my favorite characters. She was so spicy in book 1 and getting to know her in this one made me love her more. She went through so much. She was so strong. This one made everything fall in line from book 1. Things made a bunch more sense.

I’m literally sitting here crying. This was the most beautifully written book ever. I don’t even know how to put it into words. I’m just so in awe.
