This manga is now officially past the point of ridiculousness, where every eligible female in the tri-prefecture area is secretly or not so secretly in love with the main male character. The harem genre doesn't do too much for me, and there some fairly problematic relationships (his sister is obsessed with him? he'll likely end up with his teacher?), but I do like how each of several characters get focused arcs in this volume, that there is humor balanced with real feeling, and that the main characters all are focused on their academic dreams. Fun and appealing if that sort of harem wish fulfillment is your thing.

**Thanks to the artist, publisher, and NetGalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Volume notes:
It's about time Ogata got her own arc and it's one that uses the rest of the cast very well, especially Fumino. 5 stars.

Series review:
"We Never Learn" or #BokuBen is a comedy manga that draws its laughs from the interactions of the main character Yuiga with his harem, I mean, his classmates Fumino, Ogata, and Uruka. He tutors them, with a college scholarship on the line for him. There are also two other supporting characters in the periphery, teacher Kirasu, and recent alum Asumi, whose orbits sometimes cross into the paths of the main cast. It has the usual pervy tropes found in manga of its ilk, although toned down because of the high school setting. It was a manga I did not expect to enjoy as much as I did. It gave me that "finale high" which I associate with stories that get me as a reader.

One reason I probably enjoyed this series is the earnestness of the main character. One can't help but cheer for him. He's a good guy and hopelessly clueless sometimes, which is main component of his charm.

My rating for the entire series is 4 stars.

This volume is mostly Rizu centric, with us getting an insight into her self consciousness and friendship with Fumino. There are also funny moments with Fumino, Nariyuki and a cat, and a time skip, and cleaning the pool, as well as falling asleep on a train and being stuck overnight.
Overall, I'm glad there are only two more volumes before the endings, as it's starting to wear thin.

The end of the year is coming fast and with it, the end of Yuiga's journey as a tutor. Final exams will determine the fate of all the girls, but first, some shenanigans!

Rize admits her jealousy of Furuhashi and finds out that flaws aren't deal breakers in good friendships. Miss Kirisu turns back time for a fun amusement part trip. Uruka and Yuiga share a moment and then everybody welcomes the New Year. Dang it! Gag manga aren't supposed to make you sentimental.

This series has 21 volumes.

With Christmas and New Year’s on tap, that means... well, it’s this series so it means sexy Santa outfits and yukatas as far as the eye can see. Fret not, our intrepid author manages to get some swimsuits in there and also time travel happens because why not, at this point?

If there’s one thing I respect about We’ll Never Learn, it’s that I think it has no shame whatsoever about what it is and it knows exactly what it is at the same time. There is no situation that cannot be made more prurient at a moment’s notice.

Poor Nariyuki gets so many breasts and thighs mashed into his face you’d think he was eating out of a bucket of KFC the whole time. As to whether the book or the bucket is greasier, I leave that to the reader’s interpretation.

Which is why it’s always a pleasant surprise when it nails a tender moment. To whit, Ogata is probably the most boring member of the cast AND is saddled with the worst design - I think her face looks really swollen next to the others.

That said, the multi-part opening story where she finally feels more in touch with people and emotions and then learns she hates herself is a rather good one. The way that Nariyuki and Furuhashi solve this one is terribly sweet and it has a playful ending as well.

The other girls get single stories of varying success - the one with Takemoto cleaning the swimming pool is predictable as all get out and the one with Furuhashi features an adorable demon cat but goes to some places that are a bit out there even for this series.

The Kominami story is the more enjoyable of these three, largely because her constant teasing of Nariyuki gives the story a different flavour that’s very welcome.

Then there’s Kirisu - the other “girl” in the mix. To say that Nariyuki’s teacher is popular is an understatement - they post the most recent character poll (as of when this was published) and she has basically 4x the votes of the person behind her.

This probably explains her story prominence and why she gets the most obvious visible panty line of anybody in the series. And, well, she also has the best story in this book for my money.

The time travel story is absolutely ridiculous, even for this series, but it is up there for most audacious ‘have your cake and eat it too’ moment, where Nariyuki goes back in time and takes a Kirisu who is now one year his junior to an amusement park.

The young Kirisu design in this one is pretty adorable and the whole thing plays out as a bizarre dream (or was it!?) that actually alters the present. It’s got more holes in it than Swiss cheese (try not to think too hard about anything like what happened after Nariyuki vanishes in the past), but it’s a lot of fun and something new, which is nice.

A decidedly okay volume. The first story gives it a bump because it’s got some heart even as it services the hell out of the ending and that time travel one is about as much sheer fun as I’ve seen the series allow itself in a while. It’s a predictable outing and, if you have enjoyed the series until now, well, don’t worry, you’ll be fine here.

Ogata gets a depression arc, aww poor girl. A touching end to the arc, as well! And the rest of the volume is whatever, it's Christmas/New Year's so we get Santa outfits and the like.

Another touching (and hilarious) volume in this wonderful series!

Ah, Nariyuki sure is one lucky guy. Hes surrounded by gorgeous girls (not to mention a smoking hot Sensei, too), who are all in love with him. Some just may not be ready to admit it, yet (like Asumi). This story is, hands down, the most hilarious series I'm reading right now, and is one of the most amusing series I've ever read. Sexy girls, hilariously compromising situations, and some of the facial expressions..So funny! I LOL'd HARD about 15 times while reading this volume. That's great in of itself, but it's late at night here, and all my laughter woke up another member of the houehold... eep! Sorry! This is one of those series I've got to keep reminding myself not to read at certain times, or in certain places, as hilarity ALWAYS ensues with this bunch, and I just cannot stop laughing! I wholeheartedly recommend this series. If you like school-life rom-coms, you will absolutely LOVE this one! Now my only question is, when are they going to release a much-teased crossover between "We Never Learn" and "Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs"??? I so very much want to see it happen! I'm pretty sure that you all do, too!
