I killed a witch.
And I'm just getting started.

You thought I was a bad vixen before? I'm unstoppable with my silver wolf at my side. If only a certain fox shifter wasn't distracting me so much.

Conan saw everything that happened between me and the witch, then he saved my life. He's part of this now, whether he likes it or not. We need his witch knowledge to combat these black magic assholes using shifters as sacrifices. And personally, I need his smile and lighthearted fox nature to balance out Orion's gruffness.

All was going well between us. Until my family disappeared.

My world is thrown into further panic and chaos when Conan makes me question everything I thought I knew about him. Now Orion and Chase are all I have left, and neither of them can talk me off the ledge.

Because I'm armed. I know who took my family. And I'm coming for him.

Fox Tale is the second volume in the Shifted Mates Trilogy, which should be read in order. Contains gun violence, adult language, and steamy scenes hot enough to melt your Kindle.

Did Not Finish

Welp. I called it. I guess the crossed fingers didn’t work.
DNF @ 45%

Not a bad book, not a bad series, at least from what I could tell after only reading half of it.
I just can’t find the focus or incentive to finish it.

Just meh

As with the first book, I still just don’t know how I feel about this trilogy. At certain times it seems as if the author has the writing capabilities of a high school student. “Don’t talk about her like that. She’s my soulmate.” It was just so corny. Orion, I just don’t know how I feel about him... it feels like he’s pushed Astrid to be with Conan and start her harem more than she has. Almost like he’s forcing this issue, it’s a little strange. As well as the way he calls them “kids” and calls Conan “boy”, emphasizing their age difference and almost making it a little creepy. I don’t have an issue with a wide age gap, but when the person comments on it multiple times and refers to his girlfriend as a “kids these days”, it’s a little weird in my opinion. Also, after Astrid finds out her family has been kidnapped she decides to hang out and take a nap and have sex with Orion... while her family is missing. Um what?! I’d be doing everything I could to find my family. I will still read the final book for the sake of finding out the ending because I am curious.

Update: I decided not to read the third book after all. Just really not feeling these books.

So the series is pretty dark i mean it had dark vibes in the first one but i wouldnt call it proper dark but oooo this one is full blown dark and frankly its grittier and gross and just yeah i feel like i need a soul cleanse and crystal healing or something cause it reeks of bad joo joo. I mean i read it start to finish and pulled an all nighter to read so like its still 'good' worth reading but its like not happy reading anyway. There does seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel i mean a fairly obvious one but yeah. Started the third book already havent read the prequel cause frankly they arent my thing and i barely read the inbetween .5 type books so yeah im sure its good but im fine with the first book being the series start. Ill defs be reading some wholesome historical romance after this though cause yeah just idk bring tissues and like hoky water maybe idk haha.

Conan the Barbarian!!!

Conan REALLY came through in every way - even though it seemed like he abandoned the group in the beginning. And Astrid 🤦🏾‍♀️! Just throwing herself headlong into danger like she hadn't seen what happened the first time she'd found herself in that position. Thank gawd for Conan (again)!

Full of shifters, steam and sadness, this book is an emotional read

Fox Tale begins where Wolf's Bane ended. Astrid and her sexy wolf, Orion, are spending some 'quality time' together but Chase is busy searching for information on the witches who are sacrificing shifters in black magic rituals. Conan is nowhere to be seen and Astrid is missing him already.
Astrid is loving being with Orion, after pining for him for five years. He is everything she wished and hoped for and his rough, dominant manner is such a big turn on for her. He is just the sweetest thing, though, He loves Astrid with all his heart and she comes first, full stop. He will do anything to make her happy, anything at all. In this book, he certainly has more than one chance to prove that to her.
Conan does not get away with keeping his distance, because Astrid will not let him. She marches up to his door and takes what she wants, in her own inimitable style, and Conan didn't really see what hit him. He is the opposite of Orion but both men call to Astrid in different ways.
Orion, Conan and Chase are brave men and oh boy, do they show how tough they are when the chips are down.
I thought I had an idea of how this story would go but I was so wrong. It was completely unexpected and so emotional. I could not believe what I was reading and trust me, have a box of tissues nearby. Crystal certainly knows how to put her characters (and readers) through the wringer.
If you have read the Unholy Trinity series, where we first met Astrid and learnt about her work, then this book reveals the motivation behind that work and it could not be more personal. If you haven't read any of Crystal's books yet, this series can be read without knowledge of any others but it will make better sense if read in order. The prequel, Falling For The Wolf, and the first book, Wolf's Bane, are great reads so it won't be a hardship to dive in to them first.
There is no cliffhanger but a big surprise right at the end, and I can't wait for the next book, Eagle Eyes.

ONE WILD TREAT!!!
Whoa baby! This little bombshell will rock you to the core and bring you face to face with destiny. All the drama, uncertainty, danger and suspense increases while tension spirals. Struggling through all the trials and tribulations, twists and turns, along with a few unexpected mishaps make for one thrilling experience. I don't know where Crystal gets her inspiration, but she nailed this bad boy 100% on point. She totally blew me away with this thrilling installment. Keeping the characters knee deep in trouble, gazes locked and loaded, riveted on each other counting it down. A spiraling eddy of surprising events and circumstances propel all of those stormy emotions front and center. She pulls us so deep in this world she created until everything else ceases to exist. The characters are authentic, genuine and realistic with such depth and personalities its easy to relate. With such graphically detailed descriptions you have no trouble picturing each scenario as they play off one another in perfect balance. Crystal continues to leave me in awe of her gifts and perception. Armed with an incredible storyline and thrilling plot she brings this amazing read roaring to life brilliantly. Phenomenal job Crystal, thanks for sharing this little nmgem with us.

Again, I liked reading it. It still has a lot of the issues I had mentioned after reading book one. That's why my rating is still between 3.5 to 4 stars.

The harem don't work smoothly or, more accurate, is not fully formed yet. I didn't expect it to take that long. But okay.

The plot was again very predictably. I was right with Conan. I don't know why they talk about him abandoning her. He didn't. He just lied, and did what he thought he had to do. Astrid gets it, even before talking with Conan again. The only thing was, they couldn't know if he would survive. But he never abandoned her.

Then the situation with Astrid's family had been kidnapped. I sadly was right with the outcome. And I get Astrid's emotions and her want to get revenge. But she is still the character of book one. I like her, but at the same time, I didn't like some things about her. And that's her not thinking and just act without a plan. Sure, she is in an extreme emotional state. But if it wasn't for Conan, they would be all dead. Just because she didn't think of the consequences. And that I don't like. If you put others in danger, then at least you should have a strategy. It's not just her.

I hope she finally has understood it, and doesn't do it again. Especially after the revelation at the end.

3.5 stars - I felt like we lost something in this one

--- SPOILERS ---
I had a real problem to everyone's reaction of Conan's "betrayal." My reaction, even without seeing his perspective, was he probably knows something and went rogue to try to fix it himself without hurting his new family. I get everyone being mad, but I don't like how they all were just counting him out of their family. It makes the relationship feel disingenuous with what the author has built it to be and let's me down pretty heavy in the relationship development/consistency/believability department.
--- END SPOILERS---

Due to the relationship let down, I probably won't read the final book because now the relationship feels more contrived rather than real. Don't get me wrong, the writing is still good and there were other problems that could be overlooked, but the relationships being believable and feeling real is hands down my most important factor to me hence it being difficult for me to continue. You may not have the same issues, so you should definitely read it.

Trigger happy Vixen 🔫

You're the most fox-like fox that ever foxed.

Unlike Book 1, following the prequel, this book takes place following right after where book 1 ended.

Book 2 definitely got more action in ALL aspects all around. It did not disappoint.

That scene with Conan and Orion......YES PLEASE! Let's get more of that. ;-) Astrid, you lucky girl.

I am still not sure what's happening with Chase, I need more development with him. Is she interested, is she not? I understand she's going though a freaking lot right now, but what's going on!? lol

Also that ending, I was definitely expecting to get the opposite news and its so early, so is it Orion's? But I thought that was impossible.... Is it Conan's? Cant wait to find out.

*Overall 4/5
*Heat? 3/5
*Multiple first person POV
*Fast Burn (compared to the other 2)
*HEA? Overall - no.

This is the second book in the series, and it was just as good as the first. This is turning out to be one of my favorite series by Crystal Ash to date (that I've read). It's super cute, the characters are fun, and I love the little twist to shifters.

As the second book, we have already met the main characters; however, in this book we get to delve into the pasts of some of them a little more. I love this extra background. Additionally, the world continues to grow in this book, and I think Ash's world building skills have really taken off.

I cannot wait for the next book! Absolutely looking forward to seeing how the story ends.

What an amazing second book of the Shifted Mates Trilogy! Fox Tale is definitely a book you must read!

The series continue with Astrid, Orion, Chase and Conan. As they continue their investigation on what the black witches are doing, the relationship between Astrid and Conan sparks even hotter. With Orion's blessing, Astrid and Conan relationship progresses. Then tragedy strikes and Astrid is now out for revenge.

You must read this story! I can't reiterate it enough. The interactions between Astrid and her men is absolutely fantastic. You'll get plenty of laughs, parts that makes you cry and scream. What an amazing roller coaster ride! I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Sexy and heartbreaking! emotional roller coaster!

Just when you think it can’t get any better it does! This book took a dangerous and serious tone than the first and the heartbreaking evens that unfolded for Astrid and her boys were tremendous. This one hurts you right in the gut. I felt devastated for Astrid. With that it sets the plan on motion for her and her mates of what their next move is against evil witches killing shifters and she is determined to get revenge. A lot is at stake especially with that cliffhanger!! Can’t wait for the next book!! Things get real complicated but oh so sexy!! Ps. Chase is sneaking up in a good way for Astrid. #TeamOrion

This story is full of action, not always, or even mostly, reasonable, thought trough actions, but action it is. They did all risk everything and lost so much. I read this out of breath, hurrying up page by page to know what will happen next. I cried, I laughed, I trembled in terror, I worried, I even screamed into my book for characters to not do this or that. It sucked me in. And it was as much beautiful as it was ugly. Jump on this story and hold on tight.

OMG I had so many feelings come up in this book. My heart goes out to our four. We are still fighting the Black Witches. Crystal is hard core. She is upset, but loves her men. Can she save her men? Can she save her family? Can her men save her? She does not think before she acts? What is really going on? Why is nothing going their way? Guarantee you will cry and scream. I received a free copy for my honest review.

Fantastic

Another fantastic installment to this incredible shifter series!! We catch up with Astrid just after book one with her having to go back to work trying to act normal. Unfortunately the bad guys have other plans derailing hers quickly. The story moves fast from there with thing after another though we still get out awe moments as well. With the way this ended book three will be incredible!! A must read for fans of shifter RH. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.

This is an excellent book that continues seamlessly from book one. It was well written and the story and characters were well developed. I loved watching the characters grow and develop from book to book. The story is action packed and full of twists and turns. It had suspense, hot chemistry, intrigue, emotion and romance. I can’t wait for the final book!! I’d highly recommend this book but would advise you to read them in order!!

I received an arc for a voluntary review.

My heart is so sad right now! This book definitely surprised me with the direction it went. I was not expecting it to be so deeply emotional; it is a really well written book, but prepare yourself. And that ending! I’m excited to see how it all comes together in next book.

This is my honest, voluntary review; I received an arc from the author.

What, that ending was a shocker! I’m still waiting for the relationship to blossom between Astrid and Chase, but this was definitely one very steamy read with TONS of action packed moments. I also cried a bit for Astrid, the feels are strong in this book. Looking forward to the final book of the trilogy.

This book is amazing. It was awesome to see how the characters link together with the last book. I love books that do this. The characters are incredible! There is so much feeling between them all and is passes to the reader. There is heart pulsing excitement both sexually and because of being scared of what will happen to the characters. This book has it all! I can't wait to read the next one!

Hey Foxy Lady🎵🎶🎵🎶🦊

Astrid has her hands full with her men, the Alpha silver Wolf and the Fox boy who is all foxy man, then the shyly quiet Golden Eagle Chase. This 2nd book is a bit harrowing and heartbreaking but just as wonderfully written as the first one. The Character chemistries get steamy and passionate and so very worth the read! I can’t wait for the 3rd book!!!

Thoroughly enjoyed the second book in the series. I really enjoyed the way the characters relationships developed and melded together. Intimate scenes were on fire!

This opinions could be a result of having read this book immediately after the first, but I felt like there was a bit too much recap of what happened in the first book.

Such an amazing book- reading through this book felt like I was on a rollercoaster of emotions. There were good feelings, sad feelings and then scary moments that had me on the edge of my seat. I have read several of Crystal's books and love the way her stories ignite my imagination and thirst for reading.

Even with a nightmare, you need some good news. A purpose.
It’s all action in both ways 😜, entertaining to the point your racing to the end of the book to get to the next one. Binge worthy for sure.

Now if you haven’t already be prepared for some sad chapters in this book. I wasn’t expecting it.
