A meeting in a restaurant in Eastern Europe is suddenly interrupted by secret police. Public artworks are installed in a Guatemalan town to confront injustice perpetrated by gangs and government. A ministry begins in the Solomon Islands where none existed before.
All this is the work of students, young people the very age the disciples were when Jesus entrusted his ministry to them.
Drawing together incredible stories from every region of the globe - from North America to Romania, from movements with official recognition to those persecuted to the point of being driven underground - Campus Lights bears witness to the way that student mission is flourishing around the world today. In his journalistic, engaging style, Luke Cawley recounts how students are taking risks to share their faith, continuing the legacy of Jesus' young disciples as they went out into the world and changed nations.
Far more than a book on student mission, Campus Lights will inspire all leaders, encouraging them to take risks for the kingdom in their own context, and showing how students and young people can be catalysts for change in our world.
Writer, currently work with a non-profit I helped set up, and spend a lot of my time speaking in settings like university campuses about issues of spirituality, culture and religion. Studied at Wheaton College, Cardiff University, Fuller Theological Seminary, and Oxford University. Three lovely kids distracting me from finishing more books.
Chrysolis founder and exceptionally gifted writer and evangelist, Luke Cawley, has written a superb book on the history of God's work through IFES. He has picked up student stories from his travels to Africa, Central America, Asia and the Middle East. He has witnessed the work firsthand by visiting all of the IFES regions. I can't recommend this book highly enough! This is a must read for students and those who love them.
A fantastic insight into the ways God is working in student mission throughout the world, highlighting key themes and opportunities, and showing from Scripture how they are used by Him to grow His Kingdom. Thanks for writing, Luke!
An absolute must-read for anyone involved in, or passionate about, sharing Jesus in Universities. This book is a page-turner full of captivating stories from around the globe and will inspire you to live more courageously for Jesus in whatever context he has placed you. An eye-opener into the broad work of IFES so whether you're involved already or you're unconvinced that this is effective gospel-mission then open this book up to be challenged and enriched.
A really wonderful book- I enjoyed seeing a global picture of campus ministry as it feels so different from what I’ve experienced but also we’re doing the same work! Which is a joy to consider.
The book itself was quite slow (hence the 2.5 year reading length) and maybe not the best written but nothing can dull the glorious work of Christ on campuses around the world.
This is so brilliantly-written. Cawley has brought together a globe’s-worth of stories from recent times on university campuses and organised them so that we get to travel with him to see so much. There is so much that God is doing in the world, much under the radar of most and the ordinary people mentioned in this book are seeing and being involved in extraordinary things that bring such hope through Jesus. I read this ‘for work’ but am really looking forwards to reading it again.
Un libro que te lleva a experiencias de universitarios que han tomado la misión de proclamar de Jesús en sus universidades. Un libro que te da un panorama de la obra estudiantil y te anima a verlo como un campo de misión.
