I've never read any of these books But I do love a bit of Emmerdale! and who doesn't?! So when this came available to read I had to request Emmerdale at War by Pamela Bell. This is the third book in the Emmerdale series and I just loved it. It is set during the Second World War and it was a gem of a read. It transports you back to the Yorkshire Dales and we follow the loved Dingles, Anne Pearson, Sugdens and many more famous loved families of the Emmerdale series.

Highly recommend this book. I haven't read the other two books but will be purchasing them.

Big Thank you Many thanks to Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

A lovely read that reminded me of Land Girls or Home Fires...cozy and intimate village life, but with a few tough moral questions for the characters. I got a bit teary for both Annie and Lily. :) Looking forward to the other two titles.

A lovely book to be enjoyed

This is book three in the series from the author and enjoyed both the others so was aching to read this as we go back in time to WW2 1940. As we join the sugden family on emmerdale farm. Jacob and Edward draw straws one stays to run the farm one goes to serve for his country. Annie Pearson isn't happy Edward is joining the navy excited to be going but promised to marry her on his returned he's aching to see a bit of the world and this is his chance. Beckindale is filling up with evacuees and Meg Warcup who runs the local school also takes in brother and sister Stan and Ruby Dubbs from Hull. I found this book so enjoyable to get into. As the community in the village pull together. It's such an emotional time for all to get use to. With added characters to love or hate. Brilliant book

War rages in Britain once again and life is changing in Emmerdale.
Edward is off to war and Annie is distraught but Jacob his brother is secretly pleased as he thinks he can woo Annie.
Meg is landed with two difficult children whom she slowly grows to love while also befriending a German prisoner of war and Lily falls for the dashing Derek.
All have their own dramas slowly playing out amidst village life while the backdrop of war looms ever closer for their loved ones.
Another wonderful slice of Emmerdale life.

An enjoyable tale set in the fictitious rural village of Beckindale. Not being familiar with the TV soap, I had no preconceptions of characters or location but it was the early WWII setting that appealed to me. I thought the author evoked the period well enough and the narrative flowed smoothly and at a good pace while focussing on the trial and tribulations of the lives of three young women from the village. All in all, a very comfortable read.

I loved this story, it's poignant and heartwarming.
It's an engrossing and entertaining read, I liked the well researched historical background, the fleshed out cast of characters and the description.
I'd be happy to read other books in this series.

The Emmerdale war time saga moves to the Second World War.
It was nice revisiting some of the characters from the previous books (I still think there was plenty of mileage in other WW1 books but hey ho...) and the new characters are equally engaging. I particularly liked Lily Dingle and Jack Proudfoot's story.

A warm historical story based on the tv programme about the earlier residents of the village. I have only watched the show a few times so I’m familiar with some of the names that appear. My usual genre is crime so this was a nice break from that.

A fascinating and well thought out series

What a wonderful series I have just read all three books. They are thought provoking and deeply sensitively written. The characters are so believable down to earth real Yorkshire.

Another great book in the series and, unlike the last, with virtually no typos! Hooray! This book takes place years later when WWII is in full swing and takes us through the contrasting ups and downs of the characters lives within this turbulent time in history.

I'm not the biggest fan of this type of book but this brought back happy memories of watching Emmerdale Farm with my mum as a child. It was nice to see the younger versions of some of the characters I remember. Pleasant enough story too.

Charming story

I liked learning more about the history of the Sugden and Dingle families. Annie the matriarch of the Emmerdale farm family didn't have much background history.
