So, I'm taking a Kundalini Yoga teacher training and this is one of our textbooks--thankfully available through Kindle Unlimited, so at least I didn't spend any actual money on this book.
It's not that it's a bad book, or anything, but as a textbook, it is not fit for purpose. It is a 15 chapter ramble through a bunch of new age concepts, recast as kundalini. It makes me really question if the instructors actually know anything about the subject they're teaching, like, you know, actual kundalini?
There's nothing harmful or wrong in this book because there's nothing really IN the book; it's just some generic brushover of topics that anyone who has been remotely in the same area code of the New Age movement would already know. I can't even accuse it of plagiarizing, because it has literally NO SPECIFICS. That's a problem.
It's also not great because I'm reading this book as I'm grading papers in my writing classes and all I keep saying to myself is that if this were one of my students, I'd give them an F: bad paragraphing, no solid thesis, no evidence, no specific details, and just poor sentence structure throughout. It's badly written. Sorry.
This author uses the words “have to” and “should” over and over again. It gives an energy that is very different from the yoga teacher training I am taking. I do not recommend this book. There are way better ones that are written with a spirit of love and support.
