Who's Who in Late Hanoverian Britain: 1789 To 1837

Rate this book
The late Hanoverian period was exceptionally rich in culture, thought, and political activity. There were poets, in the shape of William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Robert Southey, and William Blake; military heroes, like Lord Nelson and the Duke of Wellington; statesmen such as William Pitt and Charles James Fox; and philosophers, like Bentham and Malthus.

An interesting, well chosen selection of brief lives, including some details not easily obtained elsewhere.

I must be crazy to read a dictionary?! Very hard to use this due to the way people are cataloged. Not all that useful either given that not enough entries. However glad to own it

This book isn't for sitting down and reading. It's a collection of biographical sketches, and assumes a lot of knowledge about the era. Interesting, but more for reference than reading.
