How to use motivational psychology to change your habits and change your life

Let's Do This! is the motivation playbook for any type of personal change, from losing 10lbs to stepping up in your career to running a half-marathon. The difference between succeeding and giving up comes down to you level of motivation - in other words how much it really matters to you.

In this unapologetically positive book, Andy Ramage, who transformed his own life step by step, explains the different types of motivation and the tools you need both to make a change and make it last. And then he shows you how to create your own plan for change and how to deal with all those annoying obstacles along the way (I can't be bothered, I'll start on Monday, I don't have enough time...)

I bought this book because Andy Ramage's OYNB program was so helpful when I decided I wanted to give up drinking for a while. (If you've ever thought your life might be more interesting without alcohol, I can't recommend this enough.)

The book started strong with a list of things to do each day to reach your goals, but devolved into general inspirational blah after about "day 7" - much of which I'd already heard/read before.

The tone was grating. I'd read a lot of the source material the author summarized, and it felt like he was mansplaining things to me.

I guess I had hoped it would have been a consistent 28 days of action items. I was underwhelmed by the breezy summation of other people's research and work in this field.

I had mixed feelings about this book - the author seems to be immersed in diet culture (he isn’t a health coach so it is understandable) but on the other hand has amazing advice on how to stick to your goals and become a better version of yourself - which I will totally make use of throughout my coaching! I will definitely recommend this book - taking the “being skinny makes you healthy” narrative with a pinch of salt.

This is a great book to help you find more motivation to achieve the goals you want in life.

The book is split into 3 parts. The first part is all about what motivation actually is and how we can get more of it. The second part is getting ready to start. Finding out what we want to actually achieve, where we are now, and what areas of our life we need to focus on more in order to get to where we want to be.

Part 3 of the book is the 28 day masterclass. Each day there is a little chart to fill in and keep track of your progress. There are also plenty of hints and tips to help you move forward. There is advice on what to do if you feel it's not working and your motivation is still lacking.

Overall this is a really great book. The author, Andy, also talks about himself and how he was finding it hard to get of the booze and motivate himself. I also lack motivation in things but this book has really helped me and I am currently following the 28 day master class and doing well.

Good and enjoyable...the biggest problem is deciding on doing the self-help course in the first place. Once that's up and running, Ramage's book will certainly help motivate you at every turn.
My only quibble about it is that it feels as though it takes a long time to get to the programme, as so many of these kinds of books do. Certainly some explanation is required to set the stage, but perhaps not getting to the actual work for 110 pages might be a bit long.

Good concepts, well researched, but I found the communication of the ideas somewhat confusing at times (the use of the marshmallow as a metaphor throughout the entire book was hard for me to apply to all of the other concepts) and I found that nearly all of the examples centred around career, fitness, and addiction goals and I feel like a greater range of experiences could have been described to help readers apply the ideas to their individual situations.

Good ideas for staying motivated. Don't necessarily like the 28 day master plan and trying to implement something different every day so took what I could implement into my busy life and what will work for me.
