After escaping a tense one-on-one situation with Megumin, Kazuma's thrown right back into the fire when the Demon King's army attacks! Up against Sylvia, one of the army's fearsome generals, he doesn't stand a chance! However, once she's taken him hostage, he's all too happy to remain tied up with her. That sentiment won't last very long, though...
Konosuba volume 9 concludes the crimson demon village arc. Which got a movie adaptation and reading the manga the final battle is a wash. It was better in the movie however it shows more world building than action. With Megumin being the girl whose showcased the formerly most popular character who is still a fan favorite and what’s not to love? The manga also gives us a sneak peak of volume 6 of the light novel which would hopefully get an anime adaptation. This volume was weaker than the last due to the action focus not even competing with the movie. Still, it was funny the art was great and Megumin is a top tier character an easy recommendation.
Had to put the spoiler warning on and in case that didn’t work look away if you don’t want to be spoiled.
I’m so happy to see the relationship of Megumin and Kazuma moving forward. It’s been teased for so long that confession had me so excited! Kazuma’s reaction was perfect, it made me remember if those awkward days when I was first finding love and learning what to say or do in situations like that.
The ending aside I loved that another general was finally confronted, the situation got really tense but then the tension was destroyed with a few well placed EXPLOSIONS! Definitely was one of my favorite so far in the series.

Better than the last volume, and a nice end to the Crimson Demon arc.
The fight was pretty good, each fight seems different, not the best, but it's more focused on gags. Slyvia isn't the most interesting or entertaining antagonist, but works enough to be servicable. There was also a bit of worldbuidling thrown in and a small bit of character progression. I like how they incoporated some wholesome? elements with Megumin and Kazuma. I like that it's not just gags and there's some epic fantasy stuff and character moments. And when it tries to change the formula or mood it does so in theme of the wacky fantasy story, so nothing feels jarring.
Nothing much bad I can say about this, except the last chapter was kinda bleh and didn't fit the transition in between chapters.
Definetly sticking with this series for the new changes they've added with the characters.
Edit: So I haven't read this series in almost 2 years. I think I'm going to shelve it until the manga finishes releasing. I still think the series is good, but I'd rather read other things than all these Konosuba volumes, it's cotton candy to me.
