It’s true Tommy Turner wanted another adventure, but he never expected to be sucked headfirst into a bottle. Or to discover that, of all the creatures in the entire universe, only he can save an alien planet from dying. He certainly didn’t mean to time-travel with Uncle Harry and Digby to the great Maya city of Pakatoka, where they must first save themselves before they can find the pyramid with the secret chamber. But the fact is, when you’re a time-traveller, anything can happen…
A thrilling race-against-time tale from the Tommy Turner adventure series with 28 black and white illustrations. Other books in the series - Tommy Turner's Tremendous Travels.
Twelve year old Tommy Turner is pulled on an adventure that he never expected and one that keeps his hands full with... savings his friends, saving an entire planet, time traveling, and escaping with his life (to name a few). Will he become a hero of the planet?
Tommy and his friends express true loyalty and friendship, but also bravery, support and a good sense of adventure. The story shows readers that these values are important, whether in fiction or real life.
I love the action, quick pace and great sense of detail!
Ali created another installment that contains a great story, wonderful characters, a thrilling adventure, neat sense of culture and time, as well as informative sketches.
To place yourself back when you were young is not as hard as you think especially when it comes to reading books as they have the power to transport you both in time and age and this is what I love so much about books. This is what happened to myself when I was given the chance to review the book Battle for Yorintown by Tommy Turner , you do not need to worry when you read a book and you haven't read it from the start of the series that you're not going to pick it up but you needn't worry if you read this book as the back story is filled in nicely as the story goes along. This book is ideal for those who are aged 8 to 12 or any age come to think about it.When you read this you're going to firmly strap yourself in for a wild ride as it is a fast pace book and you'll want to read it all in one go.
Nearly thirteen year Tommy is pulled into an adventure that he never expected on another planet where he has his hands full trying to save a planet where he had been before , not only has he got to save the planet but his friends as well he will face many grave dangers along the way.Tommy has to been the hero and pull everything together and this is a huge undertaking for one so young.
Within the book we see from the start the struggle between siblings where there is just a big enough age gap for it to be irksome to the older of the siblings!

A brilliant book for the summer holidays to lose yourself and have the best and most wonderful time of your life and leaving you yearning for more adventures ~ an inspiring and thoughtful read.
Tommy and his best friend Digby will visit Uncle Harry for the holidays. The author does a good job summarizing book 1 (Tommy Turners Tremendous Travels) within the beginning of this book so just in case you were not able to read book one you will still enjoy this one. We get a glimpse of Tommy’s difficult relationship with his parents and sister. His magic T-shirt that had transported him to unimaginable worlds in book 1. He also remembers key information about his travels like when he went back in time to Russia to rescue Mr. Petrovski and his father from the village fire. Tommy is pulled into a new adventure. He has to save an alien race in another planet from dying. He travels with Uncle Harry and Digby through a Mayan city in Ancient Mexico. It’s an insightful story about growing up that encourages positive values such as loyalty, strength, and environmental awareness. If you like fast-paced fantasy adventure stories you will enjoy this book
This is a fun, fast-paced story about a young time traveler (if you’ve read the first book, you already know this) with great overall messages about life changes and respecting the environment. It all centers around Yorkintown, which is in dire need of a savior and Tommy is the only one who can help. I love the journeys through both ancient Mexico and the glimpse of Mayan culture interwoven with a future world yet undiscovered. It’s a well-written reminder to the world that, while Yorkintown is fake and has a fix to its problem or pollution, the Earth needs healing of its own. It’s an inspiring tale of growing up, facing changes and looking outside oneself to see the problems of others and the world beyond.
The twelve-year-old living inside of me loved this book. The Anjulongs were an awesome alien design (obviously I'm referring to their heads). The Flax and their minions were also cool. Time travel is fun for any kid, but seeing Mayan culture makes it even better. The pictures throughout were well detailed and helped picture the scenes in my head.
I wasn't aware (when I first selected this book) that it was a sequel. This made things a little slow up front because events were referenced that I missed. Still, the story worked as a standalone adventure. It was good enough to intrigue me, so I suspect I will read the first adventure in the future.
All-in-all, this was an outstanding read for its target demographic. I highly suggest it for those with kids in 4th-8th grade.
This is a wonderful story that is perfectly paced to grab and hold the attention of a younger audience. It has adventure, fantasy, and easy to identify with characters. I hadn't read part one, but it was written in a way that made it possible to start here. What I found really impressive is how you never felt like this was anything other than a fantastic story, yet it manages to teach important ideas and principals.
This book is full of adventure and I can picture a ten-year-old boy absolutely loving it. Who wouldn't want to time travel, drive fast cars, fight huge monsters, solve world-saving problems and learn about history at the same time? What I enjoyed most as a reader was the relationship between Tommy and his best friend. They haven't seen each other in a while and when they again meet, they've changed drastically. This happed to my best friend and I and it was difficult to navigate. We managed and are still friends today but it was very awkward at first. I love that the author was able to capture that and how they worked it out over time. I also liked the lesson that if people believe in you it makes a big difference in your confidence level. The book also teaches about Mayan history and at the end has some facts about that, every teachers dream. Well done.

Readers’ Comments ‘I liked this adventure. Tommy is a fun character. He’s sort of tough and is determined not to give up. I didn’t like the cover so much.’ Boy, aged 12 ‘This is a fun way of introducing children to history. The characters are well-developed and the plot is interesting. The author’s particularly good at coming up with a twisting, turning story for kids to enjoy. I felt the setting descriptions lacked punch but, all in all, a good read for ten, eleven and twelve year olds.’ Primary teacher, aged 41 ‘I would happily recommend this book to teachers/parents looking for an interesting way of introducing history to restless boys.’ Parent of boy, aged 13 ‘Solid story, possibly needs editing a little to cut a lot of unnecessary info. Tommy's adventures are superb in this second book of the series. From another world and time in Yorintown to the past in the Mayan culture, this book has it all. The author's imagination is incredible. Mix in high stakes adventure and likeable characters for an awesome read. The drawings and the Mayan culture information offer additional features.
