My Year with Marie Kondo tells the author’s story of her experiences in tidying up a la Marie Kondo. Dana Jacobson shares her struggles and successes in following the KonMari Method™ and explains why she recommends following that method as closely as possible. The book is an honest look at how difficult Tidying can be, but full of encouragement and practical suggestions to help the reader persevere through the challenges to complete his or her own Tidying Festival and reap the benefits of a home filled only with possessions that bring joy to their owner.
I loved the author taking us in her journey to Marie Kondo her home. We get the good, bad and the pile in the middle of the floor we walked around for two months (yes, two months).
I’ve never read Marie Komodo’s book, but I have seen parodies play out on sitcoms. I highly recommend Lois Griffin on Family Guy finally putting her family on the curb because they no longer brought her joy 🤦🏾♀️
Ms. Jacobson literally takes us room to room and almost item by item. I truly felt like I was reading a friend’s journal about how she spent her year. Yes, a year. Which brings me to one of the points made - do not take breaks in the process. I don’t mean don’t eat and don’t sleep. What I mean is don’t leave things half done with a pile to go through next weekend. Once you get past the first few days of walking around a pile, then you’ll get used to it being a few weeks and then maybe even months. This is what I’ve found myself doing. I was supposed to repot all,y plants and put them on the new shelf I put together and painted gold. I remember knocking over a plant at thanksgiving or Christmas because I had not repotted and moved the shelf…I still haven’t repotted or moved the shelf all because I’ve got used to walking the other two feet around it 😫😫😫
I highly recommend the book. Easy read, but take your time and make the highlights.
I found this book on the author using the KonMarie method of Tiding in her small condo very enlightening. 640 square feet is small for a house. Her reactions to the methods and figuring out what works for her were very interesting to me . Some were an A-Ha moment for me. I just did the clothing portion for myself with Marie's book, and I still get a thrill of accomplishment looking in my underwear drawer( cheap thrills). I'm looking forward to using both ladies' tips as I head into book sorting next.
Dana is overwhelmed, and now is in a mind to change up her feelings and surrounding clutter. Armed with the golden advice and inspirational maxims of Marie Kondo she gets to grips with her personal procrastination demons and makes her way to 'tidy'. A fun read which will make you want to try for the land of tidy too.
Nothing terribly new here but it’s helpful to understand someone else’s journey through KM. Certainly less traumatic than watching an episode of Hoarders to find motivation.
