‘If you run you make yourself look like prey’

Author Apollo Surge now has two books available on Amazon – MATING SEASON from 2016 and the current new WOLFPACK RISING – promised to be Book 1 of an ongoing series. It will be interesting to see how this author develops.

Paranormal gay romances have become a popular genre and Apollo fits into this category of writers well. One advantage this novel has is the opening of a paranormal story with a real life encounter of the main character Sawyer with very human passers-by – a fine way to open the door to the shifting story that follows.

Sawyer is a loner, wandering in the forests of Connecticut, declining housing and sustenance for his preferred place in the woods with the wolves. He is bitten, becomes a shifter, is encountered by the very strong character Elliot and as their bond strengthens the resistance from the locals against the wolf pack increases. And from this point the book becomes a font of erotica and fantasy.

Apollo’s gift of prose serves the story well: the descriptive and atmospheric rendering of the locale and the interplay of the wolf shifters make the story ring. The erotica is presented in the light of shifting and that makes it more unique and oddly more realistic. This is a fine book for starters, and it places before the public a promise of an impressive new artist.

This is the first book in the Last Omega series .

This was a great start to a new shifter series so much happened in this first book so I'm going to start with our main protagonist Tom or Sawyer as he prefers to be call we have a young man running from a tragic past blaming himself for the death of his mother by his father when he was a child . Do to Sawyer's unusual ability to either charm a person with his eye's or make them hate him on sight . After Sawyer has been traveling on the road for some time he come to a small town where he meets Elliot who runs a general store in town . After there's a accident in the wood with the local wolf pack Sawyer is bitten by Elliot while Elliot is under the influence of the full moon while Sawyer recovers at the pack house he learns about werewolves and what it means to be one and in a pack . But tragedy strikes the pack when the local with coven uses humans to attack the pack several pack members did including two of the Alphas mate a two of their children . Consumed with rage at what the Alpha feels as the magic councils leniency with the magic user responsible for this tragedy . The Alpha games it upon himself to hunt the witches his rage influences the whole pack into a killing rage and they will not listen to reason . So it's up to Sawyer to save what's left of the pack before they do something that will get them all killed in the name of revenge but interfering with a grief stricken Alpha who has lost his two mate's and two of his children almost causes Sawyer to loose his own life . Badly hurt Sawyer is saved with help from the witches now Sawyer must finish the change the full moon is here and Sawyer's transformation must be completed what will Sawyer become when the transformation is complete .

This book was great. I loved the main characters and the storyline. The events were so sad at times. I know that I had tears in my eyes reading about the pack.

I won't say what all happened in this book. I just know that it reminded me of watching a show on TV and having a character disappear that I had grown to love. This story definitely made me feel the same way. It was The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones set in the shifter world in that aspect.

I love Elliot and Sawyer together. They make a great couple. I could see them hooking up from the time Sawyer walked into the little store. I also loved the whole aspect of the moon watching over the pack and being able to communicate with them. It was a unique take on the moon running a shifter's life.

I was so happy to see more books available in this series. I can't wait to start the next one.

This was not what I expected, but I quite liked it anyway. It's the first installment in a series and weirdly pretty much everything that happens is summarized in the blurb already. The questions raised there about that mysterious power and even Sawyer's place within the pack (which I thought the title makes obvious already?) do not get answered in this book - in fact the book ends right before answers can be expected.
And hence all the typical alpha/omega/shifter elements are missing in this book. There is no epic love story, no fated mates and no mpreg (yet). Instead this focuses on family dynamics and shifter society, Sawyer's hangups and him getting used to the pack and the feud with the coven. The budding romance with Elliot is not the main focus, but it's the most endearing thing: first love, shy and sweet and awkward and playful.

I was actually surprised by how much I liked this, considering it was a new to me author. The werewolf lore is slightly different with the Influence being the special power they have, and the mention of other shifters was nice. It was a good intro to the shifter world for Sawyer, and a hopeful beginning to a romance with Elliot. My one quibble would be

Honestly, all this possessive behavior is not for me. The main character passed out, woke up surrounded by people welcoming him to the "family" and are hellbent on keeping him there.
At the 15% mark the love interest is already like: "lmao why would you wanna leave? You're home!"
No thank you.
