A calculating killer, a laid back policeman, and a frantic phone call mark the beginning of the "Five Dead Rooks" mystery - Inspector Walter Darriteau’s seventh case - and unquestionably his most difficult to date.
Bilk Thomas runs a Chester city centre nightclub catering for the more mature drinker and dancer. Why not? They have the money and they have the time, and when time’s pressing people occasionally make rash decisions. It’s the wee small hours of Wednesday morning, the quietest day of the week, and Bilk is keen to count the money, lock up, and get home to his big and pleasant house in suburbia.
He’s only been in a matter of minutes when the doorbell rings. Who the heck comes ringing doorbells at coming up 2am? Bilk goes to the door and sees a man he does not recognise. After some discussion he lets him in. Would you let a stranger into your home at 2am? Not many people would. But Bilk Thomas did, and maybe that was a big mistake.

I have been writing for longer than I care to remember, both fiction and non fiction, and started out by writing business articles and columns.
The reason I write is because I enjoy it. It is as simple as that. If other people happen to enjoy the results then that is a huge buzz, and a great encouragement to write some more!!
At the moment I am concentrating on my Chester based detective, Inspector Walter Darriteau, (see The Murder Diaries and The Sound of Sirens) and my philandering man, Gringo Greene - (see The Life and Loves of Gringo Greene) though the truth is that, like many other writers, I always have several projects under way at any one time.
Thank you for visiting my page and I hope you like at least some of my stuff.
I've had enough of romance for a bit, time for some crime! I enjoyed this dip back into the Walter Darriteau stories, and particularly enjoyed this one where he didn't catch the bad guy! I hope there's more to come in another book though, I'd love to see him get him in the end. A good read.

Really enjoying this series. Walter and his team are faced with 5 dead men, all killed with one blow from a human hand. All the victims are personally known to Walter.
