Russell Punter was born in Bedfordshire, England. From an early age he enjoyed writing and illustrating his own stories. He trained as a graphic designer at art college in West Sussex before entering the world of publishing. He has written over one hundred books for children of all ages, ranging from original stories to adaptations of classic novels.

Another great Usborne graphic novel. This faithfully portrays the original Sherlock Holmes story- which is one of my favorites. The book is fairly dense as Doyle’s mystery’s are enjoyably complex. The spooky factor is portrayed well, but not as overarching as the novel.

There wasn't enough of a build up to sufficiently express the horror of the hound.

Also, careless editing in the beginning has Holmes asking Dr. Mortimer about "the apparition before Sir Henry died" - Sir Charles is the man who died

I’m not a big Sherlock fan but I did find the mystery with a dash of supernatural an interesting story. The pages are well drawn, but a tad boring as their not a lot of action and much dialog between characters.

Ormai è cosa nota che ogni volta che trovo prodotti dedicati a Sherlock Holmes, devono diventare miei. Ho trovato questo fumetto quasi per destino, in offerta in una libreria di fronte alla stazione in cui dovevo fare un cambio.
“Il mastino dei Baskerville”, poi, è una delle mie storie preferite: è la prima che ho letto ed è quella che mi ha fatto innamorare.
Questa versione illustrata l’ho trovata egregia in tutto, adattamento e illustrazioni (uno degli illustratori è il copertinista di Geronimo Stilton!).
Anche la traduzione in terza persona presente è stata interessante perché ha trasmesso una sensazione di immediatezza.

Se siete fan di Sherlock Holmes, vi piace collezionare le sue storie e amate trovarne sempre nuove versioni, non lasciatevi scappare questo fumetto!

Not a bad graphic retelling of a classic mystery. The visuals were pleasant and the story easy to follow. The author kept the excitement and intrigue intact though this is a much abridged version of the original novel.

I will say that the speech bubbles were not always the best placed for seamless reading, encouraging you to read the dialogue out of order. The hound is also absent from most of the story, in such a way that you wonder why this random family myth is even being discussed at all. There was a need for more atmospheric howls and glimpses of the beast.

Four and a half stars: Beautifully illustrated by Italian artist Andrea DaRold in a nice, solid edition. Would be a great companion piece as a gift to some young person unfamiliar with the book who is lucky enough to receive a printed copy (which they should read first.)

Il Mastino dei Baskerville è uno dei più celebri romanzi della serie di Sherlock in cui si tratta di una maledizione di famiglia che dura da generazioni. Una storia che nasconde rancori familiari e feroci omicidi, in cui per un attimo sembra che il soprannaturale si intrecci con la realtà. Il fumetto si apre con Watson che introduce la storia, la quale è ben articolata con la giusta dose di mistero e adrenalina. Sherlock non può farsi sfuggire un caso così particolare e subito si fionda nelle indagini. Il protagonista è spettacolare, Holmes è intelligente, schietto e l’ho trovato anche ironico nel suo essere saccente, mentre Watson è il personaggio più equilibrato della coppia che comunque riesce a tenere testa al suo collega. Non ho letto il romanzo quindi non posso fare un paragone, ma trovo che sia stato fatto un buon lavoro in questa versione a fumetto perché la storia scorre veloce e intrattiene il lettore.

Durante i dialoghi ci sono dei piccoli riquadri che spiegano alcuni gesti e alcune situazioni che non vengono rappresentati graficamente, ciò rende il tutto più particolare, dettagliato e fluido, permettendo una piacevole lettura.

Graficamente il lavoro è rappresentato in modo chiaro, a partire dalla disposizione delle vignette fino al font utilizzato per i dialoghi e le brevi descrizioni, il tutto per agevolare la lettura. La linea del disegno è semplice e delicata con un lieve gioco di luci e ombre, un chiaro scuro appena accennato. Devo dire che sono rimasta un po’ delusa dalla scelta dei colori, lì ho trovati un po’ piatti, avrei preferito vedere dei toni più intensi e vivaci al fine di enfatizzare maggiormente l’atmosfera particolare ed enigmatica creata dallo stesso Sherlock, ma questo è un punto dettato dal semplice gusto personale.

Questa versione a fumetto de Il Mastino dei Baskerville l’ho trovata piacevole, veloce e scorrevole, adatto a un lettore che si vuole avvicinare per la prima volta al mondo di Sherlock e a chi vuole sperimentare questa nuova veste grafica del classico.
