Single again, Maya and her bestie, Una, make plans to sail around the beautiful Adriatic Coast on board a luxury yacht. Fun in the sun with friends is just what these two need this summer.
Maya shouldn’t be attracted to Adrian—the cocky, handsome Spaniard on board—especially when after a passionate night, he calls out another girl’s name in his sleep.
Una, who is supposed to be in a long distance relationship, hooks up with a stranger and sneaks him on board. The next day, the stranger is gone and so is some very expensive jewelry. When Una goes missing too, Maya wants to help her, but what is Una’s involvement?
And who is the mysterious girl Adrian mumbles about in his sleep? Perhaps it is something to do with Una’s secretive and reckless behavior. Maya has a lot of questions, but no one seems ready to give her the answers.
Maya Berger grew up in a middle-class family with a younger sister, her dentist mother and physician father. For the first eighteen years of her life, she lived in a socialist system. She spent the last year of high school in Hawaii and learned how people lived and worked in capitalist countries. After high school she returned to Croatia, where the war was just ending and the country was becoming an independent republic and a capitalist country. At that time Croatia (a small country on the Adriatic in which big productions houses come to shoot Game of Thrones and Star Wars scenes, also the home of Nikola Tesla’s ) began to change slowly, and Maya is still waiting for her country to become a smaller version of the country she once had the privilege to live in – the USA.
She earned her degree in economics and specialized in marketing. She worked as a product manager in three companies before her health problems appeared, which made her change her profession and become a Pilates instructor and Pilates studio owner. She had to overcome many obstacles ( she battled chronic pain for years and was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis ) to get pregnant, become a mother, and then be the mother she always wanted to be. She felt the need to share her path with other women who found themselves in a similar position.
Maya now lives in Zagreb, Croatia with her husband and their daughter. In addition to teaching Pilates, she promotes Croatia as a tourist destination and she loves to write. In her spare time she plays with her baby girl, Luna, and talks to her husband. She loves to travel, swim, ski and play tennis, and, of course, use every chance she gets to read as many books as she can get her hands on.
Due to her child’s deep gaze and what Maya sees as “silent talks” with the living-room Buddha statue, Maya feels that Luna is a special baby, full of positive energy. But motherhood is challenging and Maya does her best to lead a balanced life – go to work, write, socialize, heal, spend time at the Adriatic seaside where she feels free and unburdened, and be with her family. To ease her pain and restore energy, Maya combines Western medicine with alternative methods. Her pain is relieved and her relationships with others have improved, but she will continue searching for an even better balance and an even better path to self-betterment. Show Less
This is a great read to take in chilling in a hammock on a summer afternoon. What better way to spend your summer than on a luxury yacht sailing along the Adriatic Coast? The characters are relatable and the story has the perfect amount of drama to keep you interested. Maya and Una set off on a summer adventure, Maya and Adrian have a perfect summer romance until he starts calling out another woman’s name in the night. Una finds a tattooed stranger and sneaks him onto the yacht only to discover that he is gone the next morning along with the valuables of other members of the party on the yacht, then Una disappears after she insists on trying to find the guy herself. The story is full of secrets and reveals. If I had one complaint about this book, it would be that it is a little heavy on dialogue and doesn’t seem really pull any of the “scenery” in from their surroundings, there’s no painting a picture with words so aside from being “told” that the story took place primarily on a yacht in the Adriatic coast there’s very little descriptive writing to go along with it. Aside from that, the book was a good summer read. I’d give it a 3.5 star rating.
I like Maya and Una. They were sweet and good best friends. Yet, for me I needed more than just these two ladies. Yes, there are other characters but they were not as interesting or engaging as these two ladies. In addition, the story was "too" cozy mystery for me.
I did feel like I was on a vacation along with Maya and Una. I was swept away by the locations in this story. Yet, as I stated previously I struggled with this book. The mystery aspect was fine but I did figure it out half way through the storyline. However, this did not deter me from finishing this book until the end. Which speaking of the ending. It was a good one. So this was a bright spot in the story. There is nothing worse than to read a whole book just to get to a weak ending. Overall, this was a fine read. This may not have been for me but other readers seem to really enjoyed it.
I’ve been following Maya Berger’s books and happy that she has continued the story with Maya, Una, and their traveling friends. Off Shore Secrets is another great book from her. This time the girls are sailing the coast of the Adriatic Sea which is a beautiful setting for this story. The seaports are highlighted well as the multiple mystery takes place. Maya wants to find out about the name her love interest Adrian calls out in his sleep. Una is torn about her feelings for her long-distance partner Birger and may have messed things up for them on the vacation. Love and friendships grow, and misunderstandings always make a good plot twist. This books stands alone, but it doesn’t hurt to start at the beginning. It’s an easy read and inspires a look at a beautiful vacation location.
This was an Adventure, Romance and Mystery in one. Characters on vacation across the Adriatic Sea. It's a perfect beach, summer read! It makes you want to take a vacation to the Beautiful Croatia with all the facts the author added. This is not my normal genre of book, but if you like a cozy beach read this is for you! Highly recommend
