DP is still enthralled with her connecting storylines of police investigations, but she’s run out of terrorists and drug dealers. Enter: Organized crime. Our hero is straight outta New Jersey, complete with accent, sentimental stories about his grandmother and his loyalty to his mob family. He helpfully explains to the clueless heroine that he’s had to do Bad Things for Good Reasons – just like the Godfather and the Sopranos. He’s in Jacobsville (with his limo and driver) to hide out and work to clear his mob brother’s name.

Heroine is an orphaned beauty with rheumatoid arthritis. She walks with a cane and can’t afford any medical treatment except for ibuprofen and leeches time off from work. She lives in a boarding house on the first floor. Hero (who is beyond wealthy) decides to move into the boarding house as well. His driver can stay at the new motel outside of town.

H/h are smitten with each other from the beginning and their romance is cute if a little surreal. Hero calls heroine “a violet under a stair” for her fey beauty. They bond when the hero has a migraine after eating cheese. They spend countless pages earnestly talking about migraines, the heroine’s condition and all the causes and remedies for such conditions.

They would not be out of place in senior’s home. For instance, heroine, at age 24, muses that women can be called out for sexual harassment on the job - unlike the old days. Hero waxes rhapsodic about how the heroine reminds him of grandmother. *Other *characters explain to the heroine how she reminds them of hero’s grandmother. Now there’s romance.

AARP you have found your new spokesmodels.

I won’t go into the police investigation except to say that it’s not finished. The wannabe OW is a baddie as are her friend who worked at the courthouse and the new line cook at Barbara’s café. (They all had NY accents!)

Hero is in the clear as far as I can tell, but he’s still in the mob and he justifies it this way:
“He was fair and honest, and he never hurt anybody without a damned good reason.”

Well, you had a damned good reason – all right then.

Heroine is apparently going to be married to the mob and all is right with the world by the end. Oh, DP, you never cease to surprise me.

Diana Palmer checklist:

Hairy chest” thick hair that covered his muscular chest”

Breast Description “pretty firm pink breasts with their hard, dusky crowns”
Cigarettes/gaming hero smells like cigar smoke, but is never shown smoking. No gaming mentioned but there was an ominous mention of The Avengers movie. Expecting superheroes next.
Alcohol No
Town Descriptions Toy store that has a train set in the window at Christmas, Mrs. Brown’s boarding house, flower shop, new county building where the DA’s office is now located, a drive-in movie theater with restrooms and a pizza café just opened, there is an upscale motel “The one where all the movie stars live when they’re in town filming,” Sari told her. “The one with whirlpool baths and feather pillows and mini bars.” Everyone is driving to San Antonio for flights, so I’m afraid the Jacobsville airport is no more.
Gardenia Scent OW wears a cloying scent that triggers migraines
LOL detail Both the H/h dress like grandparents for their first date to the drive in:
Heroine wears “pull-on navy blue slacks topped with a blue-checked button-up shirt and a long blue vest that came midthigh.”
(Hero was) “wearing slacks and a designer shirt under a nice jacket. His shirt was blue, like hers.
Cutesy detail Jokes about vegetarians.
DP hobbyhorse You can’t get the good stuff. “Then the government steps in and says that everybody’s going to get addicted, so now you get an over-the-counter drug for pain even if you’ve got cancer,”
DP is trolling us Jacobsville is “A small town with half the retired mercs in America.”

I enjoyed it but I wanted more of this lovely couple. I can't believe DP wrote a mafia hero. Heroine had a disability but she was a typical DP heroine. She was pure and sweet and innocent. I loved the angst when they broke up because of the lies of the evil other woman and the ending with their honeymoon was sweet.

Mikey is a mob boss and he's in hiding until he can testify in a case for another mob boss. But there's another mob boss that wants to take over in both their cases and take them out so Mikey could be in danger if this guy finds out where he is before he testifies.

Bernadette works as a paralegal but she has Rheumatoid Arthritis and is in pain a lot so while she is walking home and accidentally trips and falls in the street in front of Mikeys limo, he thinks she did it on purpose at first. He soon learns that she really is in pain and takes her home to the boarding house and rents himself a room there as well.

So when Mikey starts to see how nice Bernadette is, he takes a liking to her because she's not like the women who come after him for his money. She's not a gold digger and people genuinely like her because of how nice she is.

With the mob after him, a jealous woman who sees dollar signs trying to break them apart and each of them not knowing the other well enough to talk things out when their relationship hits a snag, there was plenty of drama.

I've always liked this series because the town is full of retired military men who can still kick some serious butt. So when someone comes to town needing help, there's always someone around to lend a helping hand or a beat down. I like the people and the small town atmosphere this series has. This was another fun book and I look forward to reading more from this series.

Not so interested in mob story but the hero was a dear, even if he’s some kind of boss. Not my cuppa so I skimmed a lot.

Disappointing

I've read the majority of the books written by Diana Palmer. I have been reading them for over 20 years. This book however was just so ho hum that I kept waiting for something to happen. Spoiler alert, nothing does. Very disappointed.

The heroine has RA and is in a huge amount of pain. She has resigned herself to being alone. Knowing her immense vulnerability, the H courts her, makes her life better, and then dumps her. It's unforgivable under the circumstances.

Sorry but a real stinker

I'm a long time follower of Diana Palmer and have read everything I can find of hers but I'm glad this book was one of the lower priced that I've purchased because it was a big let down. There was not much storyline it was mostly retelling parts of her other books and I guess she didn't think we could read very well because it kept repeating those

How can you love a book and want to bash the characters over the head at the same time. Mikey is a mobster from New Jersey hiding out with help of the Feds (so believable huh) because an upstart wants to take him and his boss out. He meets Bernadette and they are both smitten. Of course this is a DP book so we go from “You’re the very breath in my body.” And “I can’t let you go.” to believing the words of another woman he knows is suspicious and ruining his relationship with Bernadette. Now Bernie falls for the lies too but I can understand her being more naive and insecure but the more worldly Mikey was just being STUPID! I have a love hate relationship with Diana’s books. I always say I am not going to read anymore but I always cave and read the next book.

The lines are so repetitive. The author repeated herself over and over and over! There’s also the rundown of every character in the book and their stories and it goes on and on. The guy seemed nice enough until he decides to start seeing the ow. I don’t care what the circumstances were, if he was as in love with Bernie as he claimed he couldn’t or wouldn’t want to look at another woman. Plus the way he kept calling Bernie kid was just ridiculous.

Bernadette but everyone calls her Bernie and Michael but everyone calls him Mikey Jacobville Texas rheumatoid arthritis,

When he needed to hide out Jacobville was the spot he thought of. He hadn't been in town long before a girl fell almost under his limo. He accused her of trying to fall into his limo. Bernie tried to explain about her rheumatoid arthritis He wasn't believing her until his driver found her cane. Embarrassed much? Mikey drove her home then carried her in. He rented the last available room telling the landlady he was staying a few weeks and he hated Hotel rooms. He just needed to be sure Bernie was okay. Bernie had never had a man pay that much attention to her. He could easily get models, movie stars,or someone that didn't use a cane. Mickey was afraid that when she found out about his history she wouldn't want anything to do with him.
This is the first book written by Diana Parker that I have read. I'm sure it won't be the last. Good story. Good characters

I have always enjoyed Diana's storytelling. She gives you great characters, you get to visit with past characters or you are introduced to who you REALLY hope will be the next MC .
I really loved Bernie. After all she has been through she still finds it in her to be a wonderfully warm and caring person.
Mikey , as his friends often say, thinks he is a much badder person than he actually is. He is handsome and tough but has a heart of gold and he melts like icecream in the sun after he meets Bernie and realizes what great person she is.
The romance goes along great....til someone interferes. I did say rather loudly at one point," oh come on! You know better than to believe that!" But of course, they didn't!
In every book there is someone I want to smack upside the head with Tippy's skillet. I have "borrowed" that skillet alot ...usually to use on the male MC. Happy to report, although it was needed , it wasn't on Mikey!
You'll know who I mean as soon as you meet this person.
Great story. Loved it!
5/5 cheese wheels!

Predictable

I enjoy the Jacobsville, Texas books by Diana Palmer. They all involve tough men who are protective of the women they love. This one followed the same pattern with cameos by familiar characters. However, this book seemed to spend a lot of time talking about the sordid backgrounds and debilitating health of the main characters Mikey and Bernie. The conflict between the two seemed a little forced and predictable. I also got a little tired of the string man being filthy rich - not very relatable. This was not a bad way to pass the time and escape, but there are others in the series that I liked much better.

Diana Palmer never disappoints. I enjoyed the way Mikey met Bernadette. Bernadette was a paradox to me. Her autoimmune disease may make her physically impaired and weak; but her determination and pride make her one of the strongest heroines I read about. Bernie is softly beautiful yet tough enough to live a life of limitations with the force of a storm. Mikey is tough; but has a gentleness that is drawn to Bernie. Their love and trials make this story a pleasure to read. I am glad Mikey's misunderstanding did not include verbal attacks as some of the heroes of Ms. Palmers are wont to do. Thank you, Diana Palmer, for such a good book.

Bernadette resides herself to her quiet repetitious life as a paralegal who spends her nights at home due to debilitating rhumetoid arthritis. Mikey is a NJ crime boss being protected by the Feds for information he knows.

Texas Proud is a story of two tender people who may seem like unlikely lovers, but all they need is a meet-cute for the stars to align. Lots of repeat characters and Palmer hallmarks, but the best yet as this heroine is treated like a lady by our hero from beginning to end. Swoon!

Usually like Diana Palmer, but not so much this one. Can't get someone falling in love with anyone in organized crime. Michael Fiore, mobster, owner of a Vegas casino, is hiding out in Jacobsville, and living in a boarding house where Bearnadette Epperson lives. But can they come together? Bernie thinks no, because she suffers from rheumatoid arthritis, and can't afford the expensive medicines that could make her life better. And he's a mobster, waiting for a trial to testify against another mobster.

Just didn't care for this.

Texas Proud

Another great story featuring all the favorites from Jacobsonville, Texas. Mikey Fiore is in town to stay safe from a mob hit an while his boss is being hidden out by the Feds. He is a very wealthy man who has little trust when it comes to women, then he meets sweet Bernadette. All fans of Diana Palmer will love this story!

Heartbreaking

Wow this book had me crying. This was such a heartbreaking story. Bernie is one strong woman to have to deal with her RA and still be a happy person. Mikey was right he is a bad boy and stupid for listening to Jessie. Jessie needs to be put down, I hate women like her. Thank you Diana for another good story.

I always know what I'll get with a book by Diana Palmer-that's why I like her books. Mickey was part of "The Family" in New Jersey and Bernie was a small town girl in Texas. They meet and fall in love, but both are worried about each others' past. There was the nasty woman who tried to break them up and lots of good people in town who helped them Another enjoyable book by Ms Palmer

A Different western romance novel

Since I read this out of context with previous novels in the series, it was a little hard to follow the mention of all the other characters in earlier books. But it was a sweet story about a mobster and an innocent young woman with a debilitating disease. Not what I was expecting for a western romance. No cowboys!

Diana Palmer has been my favorite authors .

The way MS. Palmer write is flowing. I've read so many of her story's and hardly ever disappointed. Each character is introduced and a lot of the characters cross over in her story's. It's like being part of a family.😁

Diana Palmer writes a consistently entertaining book. The character builds and the involvement of prior characters makes you ready to read the next. This story was slightly different as it did not involve a typical ranch owner.

It's been fucking years I read Diana Palmer's new book since I spend my time reading MM romance book. LOL. Thankfully I can adjust easily reading MF romance book again. Back to the book, I'm used to Diana Palmer's writing but still it hurts me when the drama happened between Mikey and Bernadette.
