Brenda Minton

Brenda Minton lives, procrastinates, writes, drinks coffee, raises her kids and is wife to her husband, in the Ozarks.

Okay, now to first person because a third person bio sounds like someone else wrote it about me, and is just license to create flowery prose about myself.

I grew up on a farm in the Ozarks. It was long ago and far away, in a land before cable TV, video games and the internet. To pass the time we read books, watched (gasp) network TV that rarely came in clear, and had friends over on weekends to play music on the front porch, or card games in the dining room.

The result of growing up 'country' was an active imagination. For fun I wrote stories to entertain myself and I dreamed of being an author. Oh, but first, before writing, I wanted to be a jockey.

Writing won out over being a jockey. In the spring of 2006 I got the call that made those dreams come true: the call that welcomed me into the Steeple Hill family of authors.

The moral of this story, never stop dreaming.

This is a sweet collection of two holiday stories. They were both pleasant to read but I didn't feel much of an emotional connection to the characters. I was glad to be able to sample the writing style of Jill Kemerer and I enjoyed the plot of her Leann being rescued from a snowstorm and falling in love with her cowboy rescuer. That's a trope that is one of my favorites. Add in the magic of the Christmas season, and it was a fun read.

His Christmas Family by Brenda Minton

We never know what God has in front of us, Laurel, but we can rest assured He has a plan.

Laurel Adams comes home to Hope, Oklahoma at her grandma’s request for a long past due visit only to find a reclusive wounded cowboy caretaker and a teenage girl with a rough family life. Both soon dig deep in her heart to sooth the hurts she’s buried since childhood.

I love how Cameron & Laurel sparred words at the first meet and how it just endeared me to these two characters even more. They both connect on a deeper level with painful childhood pasts, and once they can overcome their wariness to each other, how they connected in the heart department! I loved Rose, the young teenage girl, begging for love in her own fashion. She just wants to be accepted as she is to the people who care about her. Having been in foster care most of her life, I’m glad it didn’t jade her perspective on the adults in her life. Laurel’s grandma, Gladys, took her in & showed her unconditional love & she thrived on it. I love how the friendship developed between Rose and Laurel. This was certainly a very heartwarming story to lift your spirit! These characters quickly grow on you & make you care what happens to them. I found myself cheering for them all the way. And I just can’t help but fall in love with Cameron myself; I have a soft spot for wounded heroes. He’s everything I would want in one!

A Merry Wyoming Christmas by Jill Kemerer

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding~ Proverbs 3:5

Estranged from his brother, Michael Carr has a lot of resentment brewing in his heart. So coming home was not his idea of fun! He got more than he bargained for when he rescued a woman and her young daughter on a snowy winter night! Finding the pair huddled together in their damaged car on the side of the road definitely put a chink in his plans. Perhaps God is using this to help the reclusive cowboy finally find forgiveness and love at last.

Spending time with the pretty mom would be flirting with disaster.

Content with being a loner, Michael suddenly found himself responsible for two ladies. I love how he stepped up and helped Leann & her daughter Sunni when they desperately needed him. Sunni, for all her little girl charm, immediately takes right to “Myco” and quickly works her magic on his heart. This was also a very heartwarming story with characters to deeply care about. Learning each back-story for Michael & Leann pulled at my heartstrings and wanting the very best God has for them. When Michael finally let go of the past and found forgiveness with his brother, that definitely was the highlight for me! It’s only when we allow God to heal the deep hurts that we can find freedom and reconcile relationships. I loved how Jill Kemerer portrayed that very scriptural truth throughout the book. Love, faith, laughter, and healing made this story one reason I love Kemerer’s writing. She creates stories that not only dig in deep but characters that come to life in your mind.

Two stories to warm you heart and soul this Christmas season! Two stories to remind you of God’s truth, and His love & care for each of us!

'God had laid a new path before her and it was frightening.'

This was just the best little book! I had already read Jill Kemerer and love her books but I'd never read Brenda Minton. I have found a new author to read!

A Merry Wyoming Christmas by Jill Kemerer made me want to go live in that small town. A single mother is stranded when her car slides off the road and is rescued by a very nice wildlife biologist who used to be a cowboy. I loved every minute.

His Christmas Family by Brenda Minton was so precious, I found myself getting very leaky eyes more than once and outright crying in other places. A young woman returns to her hometown with a heart full of hurt to take care of her grandmother but finds a very handsome cowboy next door who is wounded himself. Again, I loved every minute. I recommend this book very much.

*My thanks to the publisher and author for a preview copy of this book. The opinions stated here are entirely my own.

In Western Christmas Wishes, authors Brenda Minton and Jill Kemmerer team up to deliver a double dose of holiday spirit.

Both novellas are about falling in love and embracing family—even when that family isn’t traditional or when that family has hurt you.

His Christmas Family by Brenda Minton includes a long overdue trip to the town of Laurel’s shame and disappointment, a young teenager who longs for the traditions of family, and a cowboy who once believed he wanted nothing more than solitude.

Jill Kemerer’s A Very Merry Christmas stars a single mother with an adorable daughter and a cowboy to the rescue who’s ready for a career change.

Don’t miss either of these sweet and uplifting stories wrapped up in a festive book cover.

I enjoyed these two stories very much and Brenda is a new to me author. These two ladies are just way too cool!!
I was drawn into the stories immediately and they also put me into the Christmas Spirit. Christmas is my very favorite holiday. It's not just the family gatherings, presents, dinner but the real meaning behind it. I love celebrating my Jesus birthday. He's very special to me. Home is where the heart is is so very true!! My home is where the Lord Jesus is. Most of my family is gone now except my husband and son. but I still remember the Christmas past and I can still see all of us gathered at the big dinning room table. Those were the best times!!
This book is a short read and I finished with it in about 2 hrs. I didn't want to put it down. It gave me a warm feeling all the way from my head down to my toes.
You will fall in love with the characters in each story. I know I did! And of course the horses!! Oh my!! To me, this is what made the book extra special. In my opinion, horses make the story complete.
It's not easy starting over. Lord knows, my husband and I have done it often enough. It gets pretty expensive. I can't imagine a single mom doing it. Leann Bowden is a very brave woman. I loved her strength, determination and ability to make it happen.
In my opinion there are angels all around us and I think that God puts them in the right time and the right place.
I have seen one once many years ago when my mom passed away. I believe that the Lord put him right there in my path to keep me from going on to the hospital where my mom was. I've never told but maybe a few people about my experience. At the time, I didn't understand but I know now.
The angel the Lord sent Leann Bowden is it her cowboy or not? Ya'll just have to read this book to find out.
I very strongly recommend this book! This book is a true delight in many ways!!
My thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book. NO compensations were received and all opinions are my own.

Two stories in one volume!
In "His Christmas Family" Laurel Adams returns to Hope, Oklahoma, a place she never wanted to return to. She and her mother left town when she was nine. The objects of gossip and condemnation, Laurel has resented the town that rejected her as a child so she has no desire to go there, let alone stay. Unfortunately, her grandmother, Gladys, needs her help. She has taken on the guardianship of her 13-year-old grandniece, and doesn't want to lose her to the foster care system. Falling from a horse and breaking her shoulder was not on her agenda, so calling Laurel home to help becomes necessary to keep Rose with her.
Cameron Hunt is renting from Gladys until his house is ready to move into. He's a horse trainer, not a babysitter, but Rose is always underfoot. Will the return of Gladys' granddaughter keep Rose out of his hair? He has craved being alone ever since an IED in Afghanistan marred his face and took one of his eyes. If the woman he loved couldn't look at him anymore, how could anyone else? Running into Laurel when she arrives gives him a new thing to concentrate on - his unwanted attraction to Laurel makes him want to step in and help her as she navigates the responsibilities she had no idea were coming her way.
As Laurel and Cam work together to bring Christmas to Rose and to the nursing home residents where Gladys is temporarily residing, can they see that they make a great team, and that they can help each other past the devastations of their pasts?

In "A Merry Wyoming Christmas" Leann Bowden comes to town, crashing into the town's welcome sign during a blizzard. Rescued by a cowboy, can he help her settle into the town when he doesn't feel settled himself?

Both of these stories were great. I don't think I can choose a favorite between them. I definitely recommend this book. I read the whole thing in less than a day!

Christian Holiday Romances
His Christmas Family - Brenda Minton
Laurel Adams is reluctantly back in town because of her grandmother's injury. When she was growing up here, being the child of an unwed mother brought her lots of negative attention. Her plans were to take care of the things she was asked and get back to Chicago, but she was lacking information...lots of it.
Her grandmother was desperate that teenage Rose, abandoned by a drug addicted mother stay, but foster care wanted her in a home with younger parents. All prayed for guidance and received the blessing of each other.
Taking care of Rose and her grandmother with her temporary renter / handyman changed her perspective over time, and though she left, she came quickly back and made a family with Cam and Rose.
A Merry Wyoming Christmas by Jill Kemerer
Micheal Carr rarely came home after his girlfriend married his brother. This year when he come back for the holidays he came upon a car wrecked into the Welcome To Sunrise Bend sign. Almost hypothermic and injured, Leann Bowden was trying desperately to keep her two year old daughter warm. Leann had gotten a job with his ex and neither was aware.
After her rescue, his family invited her to stay and recuperate at the ranch where she'd have help with her daughter.
Being in close quarters with the pair showed them both the best of each other and brought healing to Micheal, Leann and his brother David who carried as much guilt as Micheal did anger.
A new family was created over the holidays, rebonding and forgiveness in the brothers, joy in their parents and a new family unit of Micheal, Leann and little Sunni.
Both are tales of Christian families overcoming hurt feelings and bonding with themselves and others.
I requested and received a NetGalley ARC to peruse and offer my opinion freely.

Three and a half stars. Which is amazing, since mostly I'm not a fan of Minton *OR* Kemerer. But it was a two-popper, and those are easy to zip thru, so... ((shrugs.))

The Minton story was juvenile - like it was written by a 14-year old. It was stupidly bi-polar. My daddy shows up in my life when I'm 25 and I'm sooooooo angry at him, BUT!!! I'm setting up to have lunch with him, because YAY!! That church whispered about me being illegitimate for years, BUT they're having a nativity, so YAY!! I haven't seen my grandma in two decades but YAY, I'm visiting when she fell off a horse!! My mom never told me who my daddy was, but YAY, she's SUCH a good mommy, and I wuvs her sooooooo much!!!

Also...? Granny wouldn't spend a MONTH in a senior center getting rehab for a mere *SHOULDER*. That's out-patient, right there. ((((sigh.))))

As for the second story, it was better, but still almost too sunshine-and-lollipops. My husband left me for another woman but YAY, he sends so much in child support I only have to work part-time! And he moved to Costa Rica so YAY, the author doesn't have to write him into the picture with visitation or anything AT ALL. SOOOOO convenient.

Also convenient is the fact that the ONE PERSON out on the road the night she drives into a ditch/sign and is out of gas and about to get hypothermia along with her 2yo...? Is the ONE PERSON in the wholest whole world who will love her for ever and ever, Hallmark story *AND* ending, Amen.

It's a sweet read. Honest. It's just... more of the same. At least it's not badly done, like most of theirs. But then, if you screw up a even a SHORT story, what would that say about your writing, amIright?

Two heartwarming western romances, of homecoming at Christmastime.

I couldn't think of anything better than two of my favorite Love Inspired authors teaming up in this Christmas novella two-pack!

Laurel Adams comes to visit her grandmother's ranch and is surprised to find a foster child and a kind-hearted horsetrainer, who both quickly capture her heart.

Michael is on his way home for Christmas when he comes across Leann and her daughter stranded in the snowstorm. He rescues them and bring them home with him for Christmas, can they help him reconnect with his family?

Two fantastic stories about the importance of faith and family at Christmastime. I loved how Leann was open minded, and embraced getting to know her new neighbors and life in a small town. She is a good friend, and a natural encourager. I liked how Laurel bonded with Rose, encouraging her to learn and use her skills to help others.

Overall, a wonderful read to get you in the mood for Christmastime. Brenda Minton and Jill Kemerer are some of favorite authors and I was thrilled to read these heartwarming Christmas romances. Great character interaction and development, highly enjoyable, cozy read.

This book was a quick read of two delightful novellas. The stories were chaste and were similar to Hallmark Christmas movies with some faith thrown in. The romance between the characters happens quickly and everything is wrapped in a nice Christmas bow by the end of the stories.

Western Christmas Wishes(Love Inspired)
2-in-1 Christmas novella set
His Christmas Family / A Merry Wyoming Christmas By: Brenda Minton And Jill Kemerer
224 pages

Two authors brings us two separate stories in one book.
His Christmas Family ( first book ) 3 ⭐⭐ ⭐
When Laurel Adams comes back to her hometown to take care of her 80 year old grandmother who got threw from a horse and broke her shoulder she discovers a foster kid and a seriously charming horse trainer living on her grandmother’s ranch. While the story was sweet I found it lacking and very rushed. I found myself not really liking any of the characters. There was just so much going on and ended with us not knowing how things turned out for the foster child.

A Merry Wyoming Christmas
( Book 2 ) 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A Merry Wyoming Christmas, single mom Leann Bowden is starting over when she and her daughter are rescued from a snowstorm. Might the dashing cowboy be the Christmas gift they’re dreaming of?
I fell in love with this beautiful heartwarming story from the very first page.It kept me turning the pages all the way to the satisfying end. It was wonderfully written and full of great Characters. The main characters feel real, like people I could meet every day, and I cared about them from the very beginning. I enjoyed this story very much and I am eager to read other books by this author . Western Christmas Wishes is a two-in-one book by authors Brenda Minton and Jill Kemerer. Both of the stories are charming Christmas novellas that are the perfect length for an evening’s reading session. I’ve read some of Jill Kemerer’s books and enjoyed them very much, but Brenda Minton is a new-to-me author.

His Christmas Family by Minton stars Laurel Adams and Cameron Hunt, both of whom have past baggage to deal with and neither of them looking for romance. Throw in a feisty grandmother, Gladys, who has taken in her great-niece, Rose, and it’s a recipe for chaos and love. The characters are realistic and engaging, the setting is delightful, and the story is wonderful.

A Merry Wyoming Christmas by Kemerer is a delicious tale set at a ranch in Wyoming at Christmas. When Leann Bowden and her daughter Sunni get stranded in the snow, Michael Carr comes to the rescue just in time. Both Leann and Michael have been hurt in the past, and their trust in others has been broken. Sunni is a delightful character who can easily soften the hardest heart. The messages of forgiveness, faith, and healing give this story extra depth and meaning.

I enjoyed both of these Christmas novellas and would recommend them to those who enjoy easily read Christmas stories.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.

Western Christmas Wishes is a 2-in-1 Christmas novella set, two sweet Christmas stories in one volume.

His Christmas Family by Brenda Minton
This is my first read by Brenda Minton, but it will not be my last. Her story of a young woman who went home to help her grandmother evoked emotions I was not expecting in a novella.

A Merry Wyoming Christmas by Jill Kemerer
I so enjoyed this story! The characters drew me in from the beginning – a single mom with her cute, little daughter is rescued by a strong male hero who is in need of his own rescuing. The story is short, but it is filled with romance, forgiveness, and new life.

Laurel Adam's life changes when she goes to Hope, Oklahoma in December. Her grandmother, Gladys, needs some help while she's recovering from a shoulder injury. She soon meets the guesthouse renter, Cameron Hunt, with scars on half of his face and an eye patch; and thirteen year old Rose, her grandmother's great-niece, who has been abandoned by her mother. Laurel also meets her father, Carl, for the first time. Laurel needs to figure out what to do with her life. Her boyfriend turned out to be a cheater and her bakery had to close. So how long will Laurel decide to stay in Hope? Hope is a great name for the small town. The characters are interesting and I liked the Christian component to the book. I enjoyed this story.

Two heartwarming sweet romances, perfect for the Christmas season.

In both books the characters are not only well developed, they are totally charming. Hard situations bring challenges, and sometimes you’ll wonder if they’ll succeed.

In the first story, by author Brenda Minton, the ending could have been more neatly wrapped up as we’re left to our imagination. The story by author Jill Kemerer wrapped up for satisfyingly. But both books were a pleasure to read and I recommend them with a couple of Christmas cookies and a cup of tea.

I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.

A Merry Wyoming Christmas is a feel good holiday read! It tells the story of Leann Bowden and Michael Carr. Their meet cute involves Michael rescuing Leann and her two-year-old daughter (Sunni) from their disabled car in Sunrise Bend, Wyoming. Michael's parents and sister help Leann when they find out that her wrist was injured when the car crashed, and now taking care of her daughter will be difficult. The Carrs are a compassionate family and reluctantly Leann accepts their help. I liked these characters and cute Sunni and her mispronunciations. Jill Kemerer describes them really well and they are easy to imagine. I liked the Christian element to this story as well.

4 1/2 stars His Christmas Family takes place in Hope, OK where Author Brenda Minton set a recent series. Like the books in that series, this book has well-developed characters that you can relate to. Great story.

5 stars A Merry Wyoming Christmas also has well-developed characters who have a lot of baggage. Author Jill Kemerer did a great job making the story believable with her descriptive language. You can picture yourself being friends with these characters or being in the scenes. Great story!
