When you add it all up, you get a man who's capable of creating something out of nothing... a brand new mafia family right in the heart of New York. They have no idea what I'm willing to do, or how far I'm willing to go to make my family unstoppable.I don't care which Italian mob family thinks they run this city. Their rules don't apply to me. Tell me I can't take over this borough, I'll take it. Tell me I can't overpower the mafia, I'll crush them. Tell me I can't touch a mob boss's daughter, and I'm gonna touch her up-and-down with my hands and tongue until she screams she belongs to me loud enough for her father to hear, and then the two of us are going to bring the entire structure of things crashing down around our enemies. She'll be my Bonnie, and I'll be the baddest Clyde the world has ever seen. They say we're angry for how we've been treated. Well, she and I are smart enough to know that if you get angry enough, and you harness your emotions just right, you get two things: passionate love, and a wildfire hot enough to burn down everything that ever held you back. Where do I begin with this review..... I have no idea because this is the first book I have ever read by W.S. and let me tell you this will not be the last. I mean I read the blurb and said this is one book I want to read and when I started reading I was so entranced with the book that I could not put it down. I read all night until I was done and when I was finished I wanted more and I was like oh hell no I need more. Amari and Gianna are two amazing characters and they both know what they want and when they want it and how they want it.
Amari comes home from prison with one agenda on mind and that is revenge towards all of those who did him wrong. And no matter what he is determined to get his and come up again and build his own empire. Then he meets Gianna and she is a no holds bar woman and she does things to people like no ones business. Amari loves her attitude and the two hoke up for a night but one night turns into so much more and what they have planned for their enemies is EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a must read mafia romance that it will have you on the edge of your seat reading till the end.
"Amari smiles at me like he already knows he owns me, and now he's about to take pleasure in making sure I know it too."
Let me preface that I enjoyed many parts of this story. Amari is a character easy to fall in love with, cocky, assured, brought himself from nothing to something, incredibly intelligent, street-smart, and strong in his presence. Aside from being a little choppy in the beginning, and repetitive in his dialogue, I enjoyed him very much. The intimate scenes were steamy, and their attraction was palpable. The action intense, the secondary characters endearing, the story itself was one with massive potential. With some editing, and paring down of repeated phrases, I think it would be a story others would love very much. I went in with high hopes, as I've loved the previous release very much, but it seems that this wasn't as quite ironed out as that one was. The danger, and the intensity was great, but it was a miss for me. I didn't connect with the female lead as much, and I'm not sure why. All in all though, it was an adventure and Amari's story was a good one. I thank the Author for providing a copy to review.
I have been a fan of WS since his first book. Every time just gets better and better. When he announced that he was releasing BOSS, I could not wait!!
Amari is not one to be messed with. I didn't know what to expect after he got out of prison, but he had a plan and that was to make sure he was going to get what was owed to him. Talk about hooked!! :) Page after page, I was amazed at the things he accomplished. The love he has for his family made me love him even more. When he meets Gianna, it's a game changer.
Gianna...omg..she has got to be one of the best female characters I have read in a while. I love how how she is so bad ass and doesn't give a damn either. When her and Amari met, they click instantly. they both want the same thing and when they are together, they are unstoppable!!
This book had everything and if you are looking for an amazing mafia romance, look no further!
Can't wait to see what he has in store for us next :)
This book was dual POV and the chapters were grouped with a title with almost stages of the story. This was interesting I guess and made the book read quicker. Chapters were also generally quite short which I appreciated.
I think this book took too long to get into the romance though like they only went on their first date about 50% in. Also, this was pitched to me as a mafia romance but to me it felt more like a romance and the MCs just so happened to be involved in the mafia but weren't "the mafia."
This book is by no means bad per se but I just don't think the content warrants a higher rating as I just didn't feel like enough happened.
Amari gets out of prison after 5 years. He was sent to prison for robbing his old job, when he got out he made sure he had a plan to get everything he wanted out of life. Gianna is the mafia princess who just wants to become a Made woman, but in that world they wont allow a woman to be Made, her father just wants her to meet a nice Italian man and have babies. When both Gianna and Amari realize what they want they are unapologetically themselves and are willing to do anything to get what they want. What happens when Amari goes for the mafia princess? What happens when these two actually go for what they want?
I CANT TELL YOU HOW MUCH I LOVED THESE CHARACTERS!!! Amari and Gianna are my heroines and heroes. I love that they are ruthless and just absolutely just them. I really believe everyone should read this book because it shows that you can be anything and do anything you put your mind to. This story is Bonnie and Clyde without them dying at the end.
I loved this book. Amari and Gianna were dynamic together. Two people from different backgrounds going hard for each other against all odds. There was romance, suspense and adventure. Read this book. You won't be disappointed. I hope the other Goddard siblings get a story.
A pretty good tale written by an Air Force veteran. Woulda been a better book if he'd joined the USMC..just sayin'.😄😄😄 It was a little far fetched, but a good book is all about the fantasy, ya know?
Amari Goddard is coming out of prison after being away for 5 years on a mission to raise himself up higher than anyone thought possible. All that time being locked up was actually a good thing, giving Amari the knowledge of what he wants to do and gave him something to look forward to. What he didn't count on but was actually a great bonus was meeting Gianna Capone, casino/club owner with a few hidden secrets of her own. Like attracts like and these two were already burning before their night was up but first on the menu for Amari is bringing his family out of the gutter. Having his plan in full motion helps move that along really quick, leaving plenty of room for Amari and Gianna to explore their attraction. Learning the hard way that touching a mob boss's daughter only fueled more hunger to rise up, and together these two will take on the world one scheme at a time until there's nothing left except them and the Goddard name.
As weird as it may sound, I love the blend between the mafia and Bonnie and Clyde. Boss is definitely one of those stories that even though there is lots of bad stuff happening, it's ok to like it because it's written so well. Yes both Amari and Gianna are criminals and have no problems getting dirty when it comes to their family, but I was still rooting them on every time something new came up and threatened their wellbeing. As individual character I did have admiration for both. Amari didn't take his past and just have a pity party for what happened to him. He took his ideas and saw them through while also supporting his family since he was now man of the house. Gianna grew up around criminals and everything associated with the mob was common knowledge to her. She was always so determined to join Our Thing and although she was always turned down, each new attempt was stronger than the last. Gianna also took something from scratch and made a thriving business out of it, never letting the fact of being a woman to deter her. Together these characters were a complete match and it was only a matter of time til they met and figured that for themselves. I'm not sure if anything more will come after Boss, I do hope so because Amari had plenty of brothers who were brought into the life and it would be interesting to see how things go with them. I would also love more of Amari and Gianna because with their determination and mindset, they can easily take on the world without breaking a sweat. A definite great first book of mine from W.S. Greer, loved all the action and suspense and will be on the lookout for what else he has in store for the book world.
I saw a teaser for Boss and the cover and I pretty much decided right then and there that I wanted to read it. I didn’t really pay attention to the synopsis and while that has backfired for me a time or two before, this was definitely not one of those instances. I did have those new-author-jitters because I’ve been in one of my finicky moods and I was a bit worried that that would affect they way I read Boss, but all of my nerves were for nothing because I absolutely loved Boss! It was totally dope and I had an awesome time reading it!
This was my first time reading W.S. Greer and I can assure you that it will not be the last! He really has a knack for writing in a way that pulls out your emotions and doesn’t allow you to be passive while you're reading what is going on with the characters. Amari and Gianna’s story made me eyes water, made me furious, and even gave me chills at one point. I was completely invested in their story and witnessing them succeed and get rewarded with everything they deserved. I love both Amari and Gianna so much for their strength, ambition, and their determination to take the world on and especially for them just being them with no qualms or cares for what anyone else thought.
Boss was powerful, motivating, and moving. I loved how Amari and Gianna stood on their own as completely separate characters who each had their own goals they wanted to accomplish and how they only became stronger together and totally unstoppable. Boss had action, heart, romance, and spirit — it was one wild ride and I’m so glad I was there for it!
Amari has to really hit the ground running after he gets out of prison, as he finds himself the head of his family, so it was up to him to do whatever it took like he promised. And nothing was going to get in the way of his plan. Gianna was a heroine who should have been a boy, that's how tough she was, but since she was a girl, she couldn't enter the family business, which always just irritated her, plus I'm of the same mind that it was unfair. When these two meet, instant sparks are flying everywhere, and when they unite, can you say unstoppable?! First of all, it took me a bit to get into this story, and I'm not sure if it was because I was too tired or not, but once I got past a certain point, I couldn't turn the pages quickly enough. Like seriously, my heart raced, while there were times that I would have to go back & reread the previous page because I was turning them so fast as I had to know what happened next. I talked about the chemistry above, so I wanted to add that those sparks led to sexy times that were HOT & STEAMY! The twists were crazy, and that led to my insane f-bomb dropping of course, while there was super intense action. It was one hell of an journey that I enjoyed a ton, and wouldn't be opposed of more of these two in the future! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I really like this rags to riches story. That has a completely different twist to what I have read in the past. I didn't really see how this man could go from nothing to everything when I first read the blurb but my god, what I got was more than I ever thought possible. It was a genius story.
I really connected with Amari from the beginning and he became a really personable character and I loved his love for his family. He was a no nonsense kind of man and when he set his mind to something there was no stopping him. When he meets Gianna things get totally interesting and the chaos really gets going.
Gianna is a total badass, she took no prisoners and refused to suffer fools. I believe if not for the rejection of her father, things would have been so different for all involved in this book. I loved her confidence and the way she was with people and especially Amari. The Boss, his Queen and family are a force to be reckoned with.
This book is a huge recommend for me. I was glued to the pages and I really can't fault the way the author wrote and delivered this thrilling story. A true tale of two people who are fated to be together, who are from completely different worlds. But when they collide it's explosive.

I really liked this book. It was refreshing to read something a little lighter and down to earth than I have been reading recently. Amari is a bad boy! He's a bad boy alpha male if I ever read one and hes hot. Stepping out fron his recent incarceration he has BIG plans and boy are they big lol Miss Capone is also fab too, strong and sassy, she takes no sh!t from anyone. You don't get where she is in this life without making a few waves, but she's more than capable of backing it up. I loved their individual stories, the back stories and the way their two lives became inextricably combined. There was so much story in here that it overwhelmed the romance element a little for me. I want massively feeling the angsty romantic buildup with these two. They're both too alpha for all that back and forward nonsense. That's not to say that there aren't some amazingly hot scenes because there are, I just prefer a little more buildup in my books. That being said I don't think more buildup would have necessarily worked for this couple because of their full on personalities. The story is ram jam packed full of plot goodness, solid 4 stars from me!
This was a great story. I have enjoyed everything I have read by this author so far !! My favorite thing about these characters was that they didn't have to change for each other or lose any of their personality. They were able to come together as one and conquer the world. The story was full of suspense and danger. I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the floor to drop a number of times. It had all the feels and nothing was over or under done. Amari was the complete bad a$$ with a heart of gold , loyal to a fault. I loved the intensity he had for his family well being and how that immediately carried over to Gianna as soon as they made their pact. Gianna was just as strong and intense yet she was trying to break from her family so her efforts went a different way. They really did compliment each other in all ways. Their chemistry was off the charts and provided much excitement in between the intense scenes. I know it says it is a standalone BUT I wonder if Amari's siblings will get stories ??
A phenomenal read with characters that had me captivated. Amari is a young man from Brooklyn who just been released from prison. He’s determined to make a name for himself and to never go back, he has ambitions for a new mafia family and as he plots his new life he meets a stunning mob boss’s daughter. Can they join forces to stop their enemies or are they destined for destruction? I couldn’t put this book down. The intrigue and tension was none stop through out, and with the offbeat slang dialogue from Amari, it was very addictive. The story is dark and violent which had my heart pounding and the added steamy love scenes were smoking, I enjoyed the diverse characters particularly, a terrific read. This book is a definite must and I highly recommend it!
An intense ride from start to finish! Amari, recently released from prison, has a plan to help his family. Well, of course it's not exactly legal but he's got the confidence and intelligence to pull it off. Gianna, Italian mafia blood, has her own illegal operations to impress her father. The two connect and it's a whole new family, Mafioso and gangsters. I found the intensity of the book thrilling and the pages heated up quickly. However, the repetitive language got tiresome and his thug-like way of speaking made me re-read several passages. I understand that's the character but it could have been downplayed a bit. I received an early copy from the author, my review was voluntarily written.
After reading WS Greer's previous novel Manman, which I absolutely devoured, I couldn't wait to get my hands on Boss, and boy did it not disappoint.
This book follows Amari, a bad boy recently released from prison and has a plan to improve things for his family, and once he has he eye set on something there is no stopping him. Then you have Gianna, a mafia boss's daughter, she is a great character.
This is such a well-written book, and full of so much detail that the story literally jumps out of the page. It is dark, dangerous and addictive.
This is a definite must-read for anyone who likes stories action-packed and addictive.
3.5 stars. Spice 2 stars. My first book by W.S. Greer (thank you Booktok!) and it wont be the last despite the 3.5 star rating. This is my 2nd romance written by a man, and this time I was not disappointed! Greer writes women great and doesn't make them seem like sluts. The sex scenes are also written decently. So kudos to you Greer! I went into this book thinking it would be romance. But it's more action than romance. Sure there is a romance between Amari and Gianna, but it's not the important part of the book. The important part of the book is Amari wanting his own empire and then he gets mixed in with the mafia.
This book came on my radar from Book Tok. I wasn't able to find it at Barnes and Noble or our local, well-stocked library (warning sign, maybe?), so I bought it off of Amazon. I was interested because it sounded like a gritty romance story, written by a male author.
Unfortunately, I hated it. The characters were flat, inconsistent, and not believable. The story plot, especially of cyber crime and conquering a kingpin, were ridiculously simplified and also not believable. The book made me think repeatedly of what I was told in high school creative writing class - 'Show don't Tell.' The book also had so many typos.
This isn't the only book I own by this author but it is the first one I read and I honestly don't think I could have made a better choice. Amari and Gianna both encapsulated the books title and when they work together? Fireworks. Amari is super confident and even though she's been verbally beaten down, Gianna rarely takes anyone's nonsense. I was here this whole Mafia meets cyber gangster vibe and I can't wait to pick up my other works by this author.
When a gangster who just got out of prison meets a Mafia princess and both want more out of life than what they are handed, they take matters into their own hands.
Amari and Gianna are so much fun. They are full of passion and spice. This was my first read by @author_wsgreer and I love his writing style. He knows how to get the reader into the story.
I really tried to read this book. It did not grab me from the beginning & I could not connect to the characters. Maybe I gave up too quick (I very seldom give up on a book), but with this one, I tried 3 different times & I couldn’t get into it. I can’t really explain it, maybe I was in the wrong mood trying to read it. Sorry, but I just couldn’t finish it.
I love mafia romance, and this is my first time reading WS Greer. Amari was such a well-done character! Something from nothing… Loved that! Gianna was written as a very strong heroine… Loved that too! When Amari and Gianna get together, watch out! Intense, dark, steamy suspense! I’m looking forward to reading more by this author.
Amari and Gianna’s story is an intense and intriguing roller coaster journey from beginning to end. This story is dark, violent, action packed and filled with suspense and thrills. The only down side in my opinion anyway, is that the story is a tad repetitive, however, I look forward to reading more from this author.
Like the bad boy build up of the characters and him getting revenge and taking back what he feels he's entitled too. This book is mainly that story line with bits of fluff sex in between which is fine but it was my understanding the book was going to be dirtier then it actually was so that was disappointing. Overall though the book is well written with a good semi-believable story line.
I absolutely LOVE this author. His mafia books are so action packed and the hotness level is a 10! Amari and Gianna are absolutely PERFECT in this book. You have the best blend of street smarts and old school mafia in this book. LOVED it!
I don't believe that this is the best book WS has written, Carter will always be my favorite character, I didn't fall in love with Amaury, I like to love the main man, and not enough action for me. Not a bad read tho
The only reason this book is two stars is because there was a decent plot and the characters were well rounded. However, at 69% this was a DNF because I just couldn’t take the ‘hood slang’. It was just ridiculous and grated on every last nerve.
