Mettle

Rate this book
Lilliana Dee provides a palpable feel of home and also a familiar presence of a friend in her piece, Mettle. The beautiful flow that is her life in words puts a harmonious odyssey of experiences on display. From protecting friends to dealing with loss, witness her sorrow and joy transform a wandering girl into a caring woman.

I've been writing since before I could write. I'd dictate stories to my listening parents who would act as my scribes but I never thought I would write a book, or publish one, let alone this one. So, here goes nothing...

I’ve been watching Lilli on Youtube for almost two years now, being drawn not only to her relaxing content but also her ideas and life snippets. When I heard she was writing this, I knew I would have to get my hands on it asap. What I didn’t know is it would come at the exact moment I needed it. Her nostalgia made me remember all the similar situations I was in, and just graduating only a year ago, it spoke to what I’m going through now and the type of future I’m looking towards. Lilli is relatable, humorous, and heartfelt. Sometimes you look at people on social media, famous or not, and wish you could be more like them but Lilli reminds me that we probably already have a lot in common along with being on our own journeys. Thank you thank you thank you Lilli!

I almost cannot find the words to express how much I loved this book. I ordered it thinking I would put it in my TBR rotation, but the second it arrived I read around 50 pages on a whim and struggled to put it down. I honestly could have read the entire book in one sitting if I had allowed myself because it’s just so engaging, however this is a book you are going to want to savour and read slowly.

Lilliana’s voice is so strong throughout the work, I truly felt like she was talking directly to me. In my opinion, this is central to the book’s success as every story or poem felt so deeply personal and intimate, yet at the same time accessible and relatable. I laughed and cried with this book, and it has come at just the right time in my life to inspire me to reflect, grow and take risks, just like Lili.

If you are subscriber to Lili’s channel or not, I highly recommend giving this book a chance - you will not regret it!

I read half of this book last summer, as I really enjoyed its motivational content that I needed to kickoff my first semester of college! While in quarantine, I brought it back home with me bc I knew I wanted to finish it this summer! I have always enjoyed Lily’s content on YouTube and I really enjoyed her book as well! I love how it wasn’t your typical biography, and it instead provided a lot of motivational lessons while also presenting her uplifting backstory! Way to go Lily and keep on doing you! <3
