When free-spirited writer Lizzie Bennet meets handsome lawyer Will Darcy at a party, she’s smitten...until she overhears him reject her as a potential girlfriend in the cruelest way. Hurt, Lizzie decides he’s the last man in the world she would want to date anyway. But as the two cross paths again and again, Will proves he has a warm heart under his frosty attitude, and Lizzie must admit her wounded pride might have made her a teensy bit prejudiced.
T. K. Marnell is a writer and academic librarian in the Pacific Northwest. After acquiring a master's degree, a cat, and a husband at Indiana University, she moved to Oregon to launch her "day" career managing systems for community college libraries. The beauty and unique community of the Central Oregon area inspired her to write LIZZIE BENNET'S DIARY.
Contenta de haberlo leído. Me ha gustado mucho, es ligero, tiene gracia, y los personajes principales son interesantes y tienen sus cosas diferentes a otros. Ha sido como ver una película. Recomendable para pasar un buen rato.
Meeting Will Darcy pretty much turned Lizzie’s whole world upside down! There she is minding her own business, waiting for this ‘producer’ that will turn Jane into the movie star, that mum wants her to be, and she sees him. Her soulmate. The one. Inexplicably her yin to her yang...or is he?
One overheard conversation, and a clever retort later, Lizzie storms off, seething.
If you enjoy a light hearted romance, this is most definitely for you. Lizzie is your typical ‘Bridget Jones’ type character, how she ends up in situations that are utterly humiliating is beyond me, however, she is feisty! I’ll give her her due, she knows when she done wrong.
'...I knew I had gone too far. I knew I should say I was sorry.'
The format of this novel is, as in the title, is a diary. Marnell made each entry as enjoyable as the last. The diary arrangement really brings out Lizzie’s character and how she works through her issues, be it, love, hate, family, work, etc. It also gives you Lizzies point of view on the other characters, although, you also see them evolving through the story.
I absolutely loved this modernised take on ‘Pride and Prejudice’, I wasn’t sure how I would feel about it at first, but Marnell nailed it.
I was offered this book by the author from the Library Thing This was a clean, easy , funny summer read. This was my first read of a Lizzy Bennet Diary book. Lizzy is a college graduate, living at home, trying to become a novelist. Will Darcy is a lawyer. Charles Bingley who is a Hollywood producer buys a house in Bend, California. Caroline works as a wedding coordinator and is nice. Jane is an aspiring actress. Mary has a PHD in Information sciences but working at a low paying job, living at home. The twins are Lydia and Kitty currently in college living at home. Charlotte works for Collins mortgage company. Mr. Bennet is retired. Mrs. Bennet is flighty and trying to get her lovely, beautiful Jane married. Last, we have Wickham how is telling lies to gain sympathy.
While Jane is constantly thrown into the path of Charles. Lizzy and Darcy are also around each other and develop a connection. Darcy is the first to fall and it takes a while for Lizzy to realize her feelings. Lizzy writes in her diary about what is going on in her life. There are ups and downs but, will there be a happy ever after?
Es una adaptación de Orgullo y Prejuicios de Jane Austen muy original... Realmente me sorprendieron algunas de las cosas que sucedieron. Solo le doy 4/5 por algunas cositas en la narrativa. Pero en lo general es muy buena.
There was a lot I liked about this book. I thought the author did a great job of adapting the story to modern times in a way that makes sense, and I loved the fact that Lizzie kept writing long journal entries instead of working on her novels--I can sympathize. However, this book should not be listed as "Inspirational" or "Clean & wholesome romance." There is no sex, and I don't remember anything that is generally recognized as profanity, but the way that Lizzie and her sisters talk about men and what they want to with them would be considered crass and sexist coming from male characters. In addition, Mrs. Bennett outright tells Lizzie to sleep with Collins to get them out of their financial problems, which is an interesting modern equivalent, but was also expressed somewhat crudely. Perhaps I am simply expecting too much, but I think authors need to stop confusing "lack of sex scenes" with "wholesome" or "inspirational;" in this case, I think "closed-door romance" would be a more accurate label. I also felt that the ending was rushed, and that Jane's story lacks development. Perhaps that is because we are reading Lizzie's diary, but it felt unsatisfying. I would probably try another book by this author if it were available on KU, because I think she has a lot of talent, but I will be deleting this one.

This book was absolutely charming. Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorites, and the film version with Keira Knightley especially has a special place in my heart. And this novel, which is a modern take on the classic using the fictional diary entries of Lizzie Bennett, reminds me so much of that movie.
Set in Oregon, Lizzie Bennett is a struggling writer who meets her match in the seemingly smug Deputy DA, Will Darcy. What follows is a hilarious adventure as the two continually misinterpret their feelings for each other.
The voice of the characters added a nice touch. Lizzie and Will were significantly more old-fashioned sounding than the others, who had a more modern vibe, but I found that really enjoyable. It made the reading "voicey" and fun. Many of the exchanges were just laugh out loud funny. I also loved Lizzie's cheeky writing humor, especially as it pertained to the publishing industry--that was spot on.
I'd really recommend grabbing a copy of this book. It would make a really cute summer beach read.
Thank you to the author for providing this review copy.
I really enjoy Lizzy Bennet's Diary! I remember the excitement of waiting for its new chapters on Wattpad. I also can feel the similar nostalgic cute vibes between Flipped and LBD despite of the differences. It's well-written and definitely a simple, yet enjoyable read. I love the main characters; they are so charming in their own ways. Their interactions give off mushy stuff which butterflies probably go wild in the stomach. And any version of Darcy easily tops Best Fictional Gentleman ever!
