Eist has been captured by the Blight now possessing her friend Yachrist. He’s convinced they are meant to be together since he, the Blight, has been following her ever since she was young. From the deaths of her parents, to giving her the fever that stole away her hearing, to giving her the witch eye. He’s also sure that he just needs to show her that he is a force for good, that she will side with him and rule by his side. But the Blight’s plans are to devour the three main gods of her world, which he tries to tell her are evil from another world. All Eist knows is that if he was good, he wouldn’t be chaining her up and holding her prisoner.
Just one more section to go after this! I know my reviews on the last couple of sections have been rather lackluster. Kind of like the Harry Potter books, I thought the quality dropped rather significantly after the reveal of Voldemort being back, akin to the Blight being back in this series. Mainly, I don’t care for battles and book-long battles means the entire book drags, so I was dragging my way through the last couple of books. But this one took a departure from the battlefield, and focused on Eist being in the clutches of the Blight. Refreshing change, and I loved every moment of it! I loved how this book played with Eist’s psychology, and forced her to re-evaluate things, specifically what she thought the Blight’s motives were, and the beliefs of her culture. I loved that the Blight tried to win her over. Though I am surprised that even though he claims to be in love with her, he never tried to romance her (yeah, yeah, I know she said she wasn’t ready for sex, but there is more to romance than that). But even with the winning her over and trying to show her he is good, he still couldn’t hide his temper or his desire to show he’s better than others. I’m still not a fan of Athar trying to jump in front of Eist and protect her and keep her from doing anything, which still feels far more controlling and possessive than Yachrist ever was (when he was Yachrist at least). I’m not sure if Eist has given up hope, but I’m still hoping she gets to save Yachrist in the end.
This is book #8 in the series. In this one, Eist is captured by the Blight using Yacrist's body. He holds her captive underground and locks her magic away. She is chained and he begins by feeding her himself and taking one meal with her each "day," although with no windows she can't be sure that is the correct interval. She fills her captivity with exercise, and Yacrist finally notices that she smells bad. This gets her escorted to the baths, but she refuses to bath in front of Yacrist, so he sends in a female guard to keep her company. Of course, she tries to escape. She is promptly recaptured and chained again in her cell. Now Yacrist doesn't visit her at all. Later, all her remaining friends are captured and Eist is given the impossible choice of choosing which one will live while the others are murdered. Escape happens for Eist and her captive friends. This book seemed very short, and I enjoyed reading it.
Summary: Simple coming of age type book, potential for better things so I'll keep going in this series, not sure about dragons. We'll see. Some of the characters are a bit 2 dimensional. Book 8 continues the theme, a bit more on magic and the blight
Plotline: Very simple plot for this first, very short, book. Ditto book 8
Premise: Dragons. Magic and the blight...
Writing: Simple, descriptive, light
Ending: Well highly predictable, title gives it away really.
But as the story continues, she manages to hold onto her sanity. She suffers, more from Yacrist's "kindnesses" than from his cruelty. She has to endure his joy at having control over her but never stops scheming. In the end, her release is accomplished by others, but I get the feeling she would prefer doing it herself. As with all books in this series, it ends with a cliffhanger...so I'm diving right into the next book!
This is the 8th book in The Brindle Dragon series. It was a wonderful book and I had a hard time putting it down. Eist is captured by the dark evil being who took her friend’s body to inhabit. She sees the evil for what is really is in this novel, and she learns how much she is valued by her friends and the other dragon riders.
The danger has become real for Eist, Yacrist has captured her and is holding her underground somewhere. He is trying to get her to become his Queen, but Eist is not giving up without a fight. Grab yourself a copy and lose yourself in a fabulous new adventure. Highly recommended.
This is a great story and has outstanding characters which I love. Them coming of age and growing as individuals makes the telling of this story even better. Other than that little blup with the short story not being listed (cause it was a continuation of the story and was not any where to be found), this is an outstanding series. Great Reading Everyone!
I cannot believe the way this authors mind works. Even with the small talk between the characters is good.Eist is in a pickle now. Please get these books & Read..I am able to go away, with the story.I will be waiting for the next book......
The danger is extreme for Eist and her companions and the Dragons. With non-stop tension and suspense, I was on the edge of my seat with heart pounding excitement! Another well written book you don't want to miss out on! It's terrific!
Escape! Eist has been captured by the Blight. She does what she must to survive while making every effort to escape. A lot is learned and questions raised. The capture of her friends brings a change of circumstances.
3.5 I probably preferred this over the other books in the series just because of the plot. The only thing is though, Eist's kidnapping ordeal was too short to be the whole plot, and I wished we had seen her cope with what occurred after she was freed.
The power of the author has never been more evident! She pulls you into her books and keeps you there until she's done with you and the book. All you can do is to get the next book in the series and keep reading! Thank you, Jada!! 💖
I have been enjoying these series of books to the point that I although I will miss them; yet I am also looking forward to their end. These books are so well written that I will thoroughly miss the three main characters; especially Eist and her dragon.
Interesting storyline with twists and turns as treachery abounds while lives are intertwined throughout the realm while others try to overtake the wvul.
I love these books. Rosy is such a plucky heroine. She never gives up, and she never gives in. She is loyal to her friends, and implacable to her enemies.
