"Many begin following Christ, but few finish. Plausible doubts flare up eroding simple faith. Loss and emotional upheaval storm through and the reality of God seems but a fanatical myth. Following Christ starts out easy, but somewhere along the way, it becomes excruciating. I know this for I have lived it. Longevity is my story of finding and following God amidst doubts, hurts, and failures. It might be too honest, but maybe that’s what you need. Maybe you need to see someone else flailing and meeting God in the mess."
Longevity delves into the hurdles I've overcome (and am overcoming) to continually follow Christ. You will see the logical struggles I've had with the Christian faith and Bible as well as the truths I've found along the way. You will get a glimpse into my relationship with Christ and the emotional upheavals we've journeyed through: from singleness and sin to struggling with Heaven and Hell and hope.
This book is terribly honest and truly reflective of my heart. If I did not think the experiences I've had and the words I write had the power to immensely encourage you, I would have not gone through the effort. It has been an absolute battle (emotionally and technologically) to get this book to a point where you can hold it in your hands. I strongly believe this process was a battle because this little book has the power to affect you. Please take the time to read and ponder the messages I present. Nothing in this book has been easily arrived at and nothing has been written without much struggle going on in the background. This book is my gift to you. -ashlee

There's more here than another testimony. Part sermon, part intelligently guided Bible study, part exploration of the human condition, this journey reaches further than you might expect from the title.
Is there a "how to" when it comes to the challenges of keeping the faith? Yes. Those examples make their expected appearances. But the author isn't done after fitting hardships to Biblical passages. She goes on to explain her conclusions about how God operates through both force and "subtle chance." She details her own frustration with and anger toward God. She openly and bravely outlines her own insecurities, at one point noting that she has even hated the idea of hope itself. From these moments of despair, she brings the story of following God back together not through blind faith but painstaking research into the themes and messages scattered throughout the Bible.
It's a remarkable accomplishment, one worth a read if you find yourself doubting the function of God in your life
Ashlee’s soul is laid bare as we journey through her life in this raw, emotional struggle to find worth. There were so many nuggets buried within the pages—nuggets that made me stop and ponder the incomparable, perpetual love of Christ. His hand was so very evident throughout her life, gently steering her home. The stories of the Bible came alive for me in new ways—ways that I had not thought about previously. There were times when I felt frustrated with Ashlee for being so hard on herself. But then a defining moment hit me—I am the same way. Same story—different set of circumstances. Ashlee is a gifted writer who is able to reach deep within herself and present her personal struggles in an unapologetic way. Yes, Ashlee, you are a gift. Thank you for pouring out your heart.
Ashlee Kirchner was very transparent and her experience with her faith and learning to trust God even in the most difficult times. I admire how she learn to bond to her husband's child and loved him as her own. Beautiful!
