Paranormal kids begin disappearing at higher rates, and the only people who can save them are at odds.

FBI Special Agent Dot Foster keeps tabs on magical cases, but even with everything she’s seen over the years, her most recent case has her stumped.

The only thing half-fae Dot can tell for certain is that dark supernatural forces are behind it. With her human partner out of commission, Dot drags a former agent onto the case. Mason is smart, hot, and magical. They have a complicated past, but she didn’t expect him to be a distraction.

Mason’s much younger sister might be the next target. He’s not willing to trust anyone else to save her…but if he doesn’t respect Dot’s unique gifts, his stubbornness may cost them all their lives.

Supernatural meets the X-Files in ALASKAN MAGIC, an intense urban fantasy by CC Dragon.

A loyal Chicago girl who loves deep dish pizza, the Cubs, and the Lake, CC Dragon is fascinated by mysteries, sleuthing, as well as the supernatural. The southern connection comes in because her sister moved down there and the material was too fun and entertaining not to set a series there.
CC loves creating characters, especially amateur sleuths who solve crimes in their spare time. A coffee and chocolate addict who loves fast cars, she’s still looking for a hero who likes to cook and clean…so she can write more!

I’ve read this author before so I was eager to read this series starter by her. The writing was great, and I really liked how Dot cared for humans and wanted to keep them safe. I also really liked Mason and his family; I hope we see more of them in the next book. I’m eager to learn more about his magical world that is different than Dot’s. And, speaking of Dot, I hope we learn more about her family. The plot was an interesting, and the plot is something I think is a problem going on right now. One thing: I think that at times there was a little too much repetition of ideas i.e. Dot keeps her magic under wraps and no one knows she has magic. Don't explain; show. Also, at one point, a character has something wrong with her (and the other characters know it) but that thought disappeared for a while and she was just being a “brat.” (I can’t say too much as I don’t want to spoil anything.) These were minor things, however, and I did enjoy the book and am looking forward to more. Recommend! I received a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Dorothy (Dot) Foster, a half Fae on her mother's side, is stationed in Anchorage, Alaska, to keep paranormal activity from the notice of the unknowing humans.

"People cared. If you were broken down on the side of the road, they’d stop and help. But they also largely minded their own business. People moved here to escape various things." - Dot Foster

But Dot can't ignore the tip she received regarding some strange happenings at a local camp ground. Contacting her partner, then her supervisor, Dot manages to save the women. But something more than a sex trafficking ring is happening. Blood magic, bad magic has been used to subdue these women and hold them captive...

Even though the sting operation worked almost perfectly, Dot still has questions. Some things are not adding up; there's more happening than what is readily apparent, and it's up to Dot to discover the other really bad guys and to stop them....

Tensions escalate as Dot and Mason dig deeper into the case. Bad magic, hidden agendas and more unexplained missing persons jeopardize the task force, and more...

This is less action oriented and more police procedural. I liked it, but it was tediously slow at times. The end kind of sneaks up on you and nothing is really resolved. With decent editing, you could shorten this book by at least 30% and not lose anything relevant to the story. At that point, it would make a good first half of a complete story (one where the crime you are investigating is actually brought to some kind of resolution).
The characters were likable, but not overly developed. I mean Dot was coming into her magical abilities and stepping away from posing as human. It should have been an epiphany, a great awakening. But the only nudge she seemed to feel was her suspension. Instead of doing some research or educating herself about who or what she might be, she just coasted along with the status quo. Wake up, girl! You're special! Act like it!
Will I read the next one? Probably. Lily had better get her self straightened out fast though. That girl was something else at the end.

Strong, little hard to follow in places but good

I liked the protagonists and the premise - FBI agent is secretly paranormal and trying to battle magical bad guys and protect humans from finding out about magical bad guys.

Good balance of good and evil. I don't like things that are too dark or sinister and this balanced evil without getting dark.

The plot point of human trafficking was good! The plot itself jumped around a bit - barely a paragraph break and you realise significant time has passed and the protagonists are in a completely different location. Clearer section breaks would have helped! The flow of things seemed stilted as well - relationships leapt on or deteriorated out of seemingly nowhere. Bit of editing would sort it right out. The basic core of the story is great, and I enjoyed reading about Alaska and getting an idea of the wilds of life up there.

Could be better

This book should be more than a two. The storyline was really good, but the execution was rough. The world building was lacking and some things didn't make sense. Dot kept saying she wasn't powerful and she glitched but she was the most powerful character in the book. The things she told the reader about herself didn't match up with reality. I can tell what the author is trying to do and where she is going with this, but she's failing at the execution of her plot twists. Also, the books transitions from scene to scene were awful. Some good editing and this could be a great book.

I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next installment. The story was different enough to keep my interest. The problem with me not giving it a 5 star is the spelling/grammer mistakes that are pretty prevalent throughout the book. I am hopeful the next book will be checked a little better. Things happen; but this book is different enough that it is interesting not your usual urban fantasy. So fixing that problem will keep the readers attention on the wonderful story and character instead of the written mistakes.

I don't really know what to rate this one. On the one hand I enjoyed it. It was fast paced and the story was interesting and I want to read the next one. On the other hand I felt a kind of disconnect from the characters. I wasn't emotionally invested in them and I can get pretty easily sucked into a book so that was just kind of... disappointing? And that made some of the pacing feel almost too fast? Like I didn't have time to register DANGER until they were all safe. Idk. I'm leaving it at a 4 for now because I do want to read the next book.

Dot

Dot is an FBI agent, half Fae. The magic gives her an edge in the magical crimes. They just busted a human trafficking ring where the women were controlled by magic. But there are mostly human agents in the FBI, so she has to be very careful using her magic. Her partner is injured and she asks to work with a former magical agent Mason. The trafficking expands into pedofiles and dead children.

This is the first in a series. Dot Foster is an FBI agent who also happens to be magical. A tip comes to her about women being trafficked so she and her partner Mitch take action and try to help. Things don’t go as planned and Dot has to turn to Mason who is also magical and an ex FBI agent. I am interested to see what happens next with Dot, Mason , Lily and everyone else.

Could've been really good

The story had so much potential but badly needs an editor. Disjointed , repetitive, and unrealistic character responses to serious situations made it less than satisfactory.

Great—and unexpected.

Mason and Dot have a huge task ahead of them. An evil warlock, stolen women, and missing children have everyone on their toes. Unfortunately, everything reeks of darkness and magic. There are lots of twists and turns. A very fun YA para-mystery.

One of the best books I've read in awhile. The only problem is the first book was not a stand alone.

Dot is a half fae FBI agent working with a non magic user when they stumble into a widespread trafficking ring in the Alaskan heartland run by an evil warlock. Things get tricky, she finds a State Trooper who is a shifter who helps on this case when another case grows out of it. Add in Bureau politics and climbers, the need for help from a former colleague, and things really hit the fan. A great read with too good a grasp on the real evil of human trafficking.
