Biography: Everything I've read of hers gives me more appreciation of the trials she has had to endure through a very difficult time of life. Being a black girl in Arkansas, racial problems are prevalent. She was raped when she was 8 years old by her father, then she elected to have a sexual relationship with a young man when she was 16 and got pregnant. Her choices were not always the best, but she had a gift for keeping on, and trying something else. She's lived it seems all over the world, been married I think four times, has a lot of love for her mother and her son and is amazing. She keeps on going. I wish I could say I've done just a quarter of what she has done. An amazing woman. She is so highly respected now, and I'm grateful that she can be an example for all of us. I regret that she had to suffer so many racial issues from her childhood through mid to late 20's. She dances, sings, is a gourmet cook (read another book about that), an amazing writer, poetess, and friend. It keeps on going!!! She is definitely one of my heroes!!!!
