A nice inspirational book full of wise advices packet in a nice boxing story ( I’ve like to see a fight like the one imaginated by author) I’ve like to read this one on 24-25 years old when I began my career but you can take lots of advices now on 35+
I know nothing about boxing. But Darrin taught me what I needed to know to defeat fear. And how to help autistic young adults how to face and defeat fear so they can earn money and run their life. I am grateful for his leadership.
No matter who you are or what profession you're in, this book will strengthen you to face all your challenges. It addresses and exposes the fears and insecurities of the human spirit. It's been said the battlefield is in the mind. This book arms you to face the battle and defeat the enemy of the soul. I highly recommend this and all the books in the "Sports for the Soul" series.
This was a good, easy read. Well-constructed story. Repetitive, as these books tend to be, but it helps reinforce the key points. Even though it’s about a boxer, Donnelly does a nice job of revealing the underlying fears we all face, both in sports and in life. He clearly identifies what to look for in the negative thought patterns that hold us back. Part of a series, which I didn’t realize, so maybe I’ll pick up a copy of The Turnaround next.
The author writes from the viewpoint of being a boxer, but everything he says can be applied in every day life. There are so many good takeaways in the book and some amazing quotes to remind you that you are in control of your future. Every decision is yours to make and it's up to you whether you let fear or confidence lead the way. "We get to choose whether or not we’re going to let fear defeat us. It’s our choice, no one else’s."
Short yet covers the topics adequately. You can relate to the characters as the story develops. The key points are highlighted to ponder, and apply to your own situation. I enjoyed this much more than the typical "self help" book. Material I can use to help coworkers.
All 5 books were good but this one was my favorite
I really enjoy how the author takes real life situations and weaves the important messages or points to get you going in a positive direction. I have read numerous personal growth books, but sometimes they don't get their point across as well if they feel like they are just preaching at you.
This was a very good read and definitely builds off the optimism theme of the previous book. Fear is the number one impediment to reaching ones fullest potential. You may not experience all of the fears in this book and I think you could definitely identify two or three major ones that affect one the most.
Another great read, it was like reading my personal story!
Mickey’s journey reminded me of so many times I have let fear best me. Darrin’s writing on self-image, self-esteem, and self-talk are candid, sharp, and to the point lessons to shedding self-doubt by living a positive life.
This is one more people need to read! Some of these fears are so subtle that most of us don't recognize them as fears! High recommended for people, regardless of your profession.
Must read book for anyone with any kind of doubt or fear in their life or mind. Beautifully written to learn these steps needed to defeat fear. I definitely plan on reading the full series after reading this first,
Didn't know what to expect when I started reading this book and didn't realize how afraid I have been my entire life until reading this book. Going to start living with faith and not fear!
I had a hard time giving this book 3 stars. I wanted to give it a 4 star but as good as it was it was very repetitive and I felt like I could get all these quotes if I simply Googled inspirational quotes for not giving up. I think my kids will really enjoy the story though.
I think these are extremely accessible books to help folks who, encountering those ups and downs of life, work to move past them to success . I recommend buying the series, to be honest. My past ratings have been a little lower, but reading through them all has been helpful.
I definitely enjoyed reading this story. A boxing setting. You will connect with the main character and the decisions he makes. The chapters are short and connect together. We all get stuck in comfort zones and holding patterns. The book makes you take steps in Growth.
We all have options and choices no matter our present circumstances. We can either choose fear or faith. Choosing fear will lead to a life of regret and unfulfilled potential. Faith on the other hand lead to a life worth living and fighting for.
This was a great way to write a self-help book, even though boxing isn’t my favorite sport in the world. I really enjoyed the characters and the message.
Excellent book, very inspiring, well written, and with a great story to carry the message. looking forward to reading the other books in this series. Recommended reading.
Objective, relatable, and entertaining. A must read for athletes and coaches. It speaks truth as it focuses on motivation and is Christian-friendly, which I love…
