Very instructive , fun, and to the point. This book is perfect as it covers everything you need to know to get started hunting. This book has given me the confidence and knowledge to start my first hunt. I would recommend this book to any hunting enthusiasts or to any beginners interested in hunting for the first time
Interesting info and tactics. The book is a little out of date and the author is definitely old school but some methods he uses are forgotten and useful. Newer books seem to forget some of the simple, old techniques that Fears mentions (e.g. using sense of smell to determine freshness of scrapes). This would be very useful to someone newer to hunting deer. Refreshing take on deer hunting before the popularity of guided and "high-fence" hunts. None of the huge emphasis on taking "trophy" bucks that so many hunters are now told are the measure of how good a hunter you are.
This book came at an excellent time for me. It touches on the basics well but goes in to the processes of woodsman-ship, prepping, hunting, and processing whitetail at a depth far greater than a simple introductory guide. For the experienced hunter much of this information may be old hat, but the guidance of this book is perfect for those such as me who have experience but could use some pointers on being able to locate and approach animals. Highly recommend.
This was an excellent and informational guide to identifying, hunting, and understanding whitetails. I have highlighted many important things to help me become a successful and knowledgeable hunter. I love how Fears included so many pictures and emphasized being an ethical hunter. I will use many of the tips given in this book. Thank you! :)
