What goes up must always come down …

Uilleam Runehart has never faced an opponent like Karina Ashwroth—he’s certainly never had to battle against a woman that held his heart.

But if she forces his hand, he’ll have to show her why they call him the Kingmaker.

Except … Karina knows all too well why most fear him—she’s just not afraid.

She knows his strengths.

She created his weaknesses.

And in the end, she'll show him what no other has been able to—what it means to lose …

From Romantic Suspense Author, London Miller, comes the fourth installment in the Kingmaker Saga following the man whose hubris is his weakness and the woman who will use it against him.

Reread 12/18/2022 in preparation for Alpha Omega

I think I'll come back later and make this a pretty review. This is one of the best books in the series.

***

London Miller is officially one of my favorite authors. The last 3 books had such a slow build up I was afraid I'd be let down by it not paying off, but I had nothing to worry about. This installment was much faster paced than previous books in the series. All the slow, meticulous build up paid off in action sequences that lead to the grand finale...that obviously isn't quite over. Karina achieved her revenge, and what great commentary on how empty it is to focus one's life solely on achieving revenge against another.

Full review to come. My mind is sort of rattled and all I want to do is read the next book.

„He and I are a chess game- king against queen.”

Reading London Miller’s books hurts so good… Red Herring is the continuation of Karina and Uilleam’s story. It’s full of pain, disappointment and resentment. It’s a silent battle between old lovers and attempt to bring the infamous Kingmaker to his knees. London pulled her readers into the whirlwind of events that are a part of perfectly designed scheme. But even when the end game is clear and irretrievable, with the emotions still lingering above this cold war we’re hoping for some sort of happy ending… Because such a fierce love Karina and Uilleam were sharing only comes once.

Miller has quite impressive way of building anticipation. I was constantly on the edge of the seat and I couldn’t wait for certain situations to develop. The secret was constantly hanging in the air and Uilleam’s unawareness along with his frustration and sense of betrayal only propelled Karina’s drive to destroy him. After the years of mourning and despair we could see the glimpses of the merciless Kingmaker Uilleam was before the fateful day that crushed him. My heart ached for him, but so it did for Karina. Despite becoming ruthless Belladonna, she still carried so much pain. But exactly this anguish fueled her to execute her plan to rob Uilleam from everything that hold meaning for him.

I don’t know how much more my heart can take… London Miller pulls at my heartstrings and has a field day as the ruler of my emotions. And just when I thought that I knew how everything will play out- surprise! She just put such a twist in the story that I was sitting with mouth agape and bulging eyes. Be still, my heart… be still, because there is more coming and I’m sure that Miller has more tricks up her sleeve. But as an emotional masochist that I am, I’m waiting with bated breath!

BRING IT ON!

This book, this series, this story is the epitome of fantastic writing. And that ending, oh boy will that ending send you into a spin!

Did the author have the entire story mapped out when she first started work on Red ? Did she know then that once the Den of Mercenaries series was finished that she would be writing about Karina and Uilleam? And I also have to ask how, HOW does she keep all the events in line? How does she weave strands from each mercenaries story with strands from Karina and Uilleam's stories and make them all fit perfectly? Not to mention just how the heck did she ever dream up such an amazing story arch?

This book dropped on my kindle and that was it for me. I had the day off work and within minutes of picking up my kindle was totally absorbed into this complex, astounding and outstanding story. The book repeats a lot of what was in the Den series, but from the point of view of the puppet masters who pulled the strings. If you've very recently read the WHOLE Den of Mercenaries series then you might not need to read this, however it's been a while since I did so this was an excellent way to remind myself of all the manipulation and schemes. Seeing them through Karina and Uilliam's eyes also gives us an insight that would otherwise be missing.

This isn't a stand alone book, and there seems little point in talking about Karina and Uilliam as characters. If you've got this far in the series then you know just how amazing, twisted, manipulative, caring and broken they are.

I can not praise this series highly enough. I can not recommend it enough either. This series is fast proving to be my favourite of the year and you really don't want to miss out on it.

♚♚ 𝐅𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐄𝐒 𝐐𝐔𝐄𝐄𝐍 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐒 ♚♚

❝ It seemed ages ago that their positions were reversed. That he was the one descending, and she had been looking up at him in awe. She was the naive prey and he'd been the hungry predator. How times have changed...❞

London Miller delivers yet another heart wrenching, soul crushing brutal tale of loss, love, and betrayal. Red Herring was an exhilarating, riveting read that had me begging for more. I am currently trying to pick my jaw off the floor while rocking myself in a corner. The puppet master is no longer pulling the strings, and Uilleam finally pieced the puzzle together and figured out why Karina is hell bent on destroying everything he has built. *sobs*

I cannot express enough how mind-blowing this saga is.... And my love for the Jackal grows with every book. #JackalsWifey #NuffSaid

With the continuation in the Kingmaker Saga: The Belladonna has lost her way, extracting her revenge and taking down anyone in her way. Embracing the darkness, she is no longer hiding in the depths of despair. Uilleam is her mission, and she will do whatever it takes to make him pay. Karina lost her happily ever after a long time ago, her world is now filled with black. Power is the kiss of death, and the Belladonna lusts to dethrone the king. Vengeance and justice is all the same to her. . .

Expect lots of blood, death, and utter revelations that will leave you utterly speechless. Don't get me started on the ending.... WTF!!!! Give me the next book already. XD

London Miller slayed me... Gutted me beyond belief and took my heart out of my chest by ripping it from my throat. The Kingmaker Saga is undeniably unputdownable and deliciously dark in every way. Red Herring is a beautiful twisted masterpiece, and I pray that Uilleam & Karina work out there differences and realize they are more powerful as one.

Whaaaaaaaaat!!!!

Speechless... that is what I am right now. London Miller is one clever, twisted and amazing writer. You think you know what is happening, but new seeds are been sown underfoot and before you know it... BOOM! I freaking love this series and every single one of the characters. It's exciting, it's thoughtful, it's an emotion filled, action packed, suspense drama and I can't get enough of it. With just one more to go in the Kingmaker saga, it is a double-edged sword; whilst I will wait in anticipation for what is going to be an epic and explosive finale, I truly wish that it didn't have to end.

SO AMAZING!

This story is filled with amazing characters, twists and turns. Uilleam and Karina are very ruthless and intelligent people. He was avenging her but she was keen on destroying him and hurting him and she did in the end.

I loved it when Uilleam & Karina finally faced each other, that moment was just spectacular! The plot and the cliffhanger have left me in awe again. Never read anything like this.

I can hardly wait for the next book.

This story is filled with great characters, twists and surprises. Uilleam and Karina are very ruthless and intelligent people. Uilleam is ruthless for the sake of it. Karina is ruthless and even hurts innocent people, because she believes the ends justify the means. This story is a rollercoaster ride of their moves against each other and the consequences. And what an ending. I never saw it coming. I had a hard time putting it down.

“Run, poppet, as far as you can because if I get my hands on you again, I’m not letting you go.”

On one hand, while I loved Karina and her badass plans so much, I felt bad for Uilleam too. He had no idea about what they lost and when he finally came to know, his world had already crashed. I loved it when Uilleam & Karina finally faced each other, that moment was just spectacular. The plot and the cliffhanger have left me in awe again. I just want to see more of some development in Uilleam & Karina's relationship in the next book though because there was too much of plot and very little of romance in the last two books.

Another great installment of this series

I received an ARC on exchange of honest review.

This book was amazing, especially the ending!!!! Most of what happens in this book was something I already read from the Den of mercenaries series, and wasn’t a surprise because London make sure that we all knew about it before she send the ARCs and also she post it on her Facebook, so no surprise there.
I love all from London Miller, I can’t pick any favorite book because I love all of them, but I always put on my top Luna and Nix books, right now The kingmaker maybe claim to the position.
Revenge not always end well and Karina and Uilleam know that first hand. I can’t wait for November and December to see what happens with this two, I have no doubt that London is going to nail with the rest of the books, that’s what I tell myself so I can hold my nerves and keep it calm. (Easy to say, hard to do it)

Wow!

This series just keeps getting better and better! The continuation of Belladona and the Kingmaker does not disappoint, this book has many of the scenes from the den of mercenaries series but you get to see the thought process behind the decisions taken to get to where they are. I truly can’t wait t see what comes next!

You absolutely need to read the first three books of this series first, or you’ll feel like you’re fishing in the dark here. So heads up, this is not a stand-alone, and it ends in a “to be continued” cliffhanger. So, yeah, there’ll be a book 5 eventually. Now that is out of the way, I’ll continue with a few comments.

Karina is holding most of the cards this go around. In fact, she seems to have turned into Uilleam’s kryptonite. Their relationship has morphed into a cat and mouse game of chess. Each are equally determined to be the victor. Towards the end, a big reveal regarding past intentions and a plot twist that has the hero on his knees rounds out this fourth book sequel. I’m keeping my Kindle loving fingers crossed an all out declaration of love instead of war is about to come into play. I can honestly say though I wish Karina would have just come out and told Uilleam upfront at the beginning of this book why she wants to destroy him now.

There are a lot of cameos of characters from other series written by this author interwoven into the storyline. If I’m not mistaken, there are timeline loopholes meant to be filled in by intriguing us enough to want to seek them out to read, also.

Regardless, here’s to hoping book 5 is just around the corner. I’m thinking surely it will finally wrap up this main couple’s hot mess of a now non-relationship and put them back on the road to romance.

Title: Red Herring, Series: The Kingmaker Saga (Book 4), Author: London Miller, Pages: 262, must read books in order, not meant to be a stand-alone, ends in a cliffhanger, to be continued, criminal boss type hero, not a couple now, doesn’t appear to be a manho, assumed they are celibate during separation.

(These comments are based on a Kindle Unlimited edition. This is not a detailed ARC review.)

Cat beats mouse. Dog beats cat. And so on. Karina played a hard game of chess. One that didn’t require men on motor bikes randomly shooting at pregnant women. I said in my last review that the Kingmaker can never be redeemed until he acknowledges his biggest crime. Finally by the end of this book he knows just how badly his actions were and felt those consequences. But just like Karina thinks, she is the one with the reminder everyday. She is the one without Poppy. She has a scar to remind her just how thoughtless he can be.

Having seen there are two more books in their story I’m sure the cat and mouse game will continue. I was sort of hoping the kissing in the jail cell would go further just so she could get pregnant again. I love books that have well thought out revenge plots. Karina is one badass the likes of which even her sister and mother couldn’t be. She managed to rule the roost without a big stick. She was always compassionate but completely misunderstood much like the big robot, Jackal aka Sebastian.

It seems there must be overlaps with other books because there are parts with missing parts I.e. assumed knowledge. I didn’t know iris backstory enough to understand what Karina was up to. I am still clueless as to what happened to Z. And why is Elsie a guest star that is there to sooth the Kingmakers wounds, console him then disappear? Another issue I have is some spelling or wording edits that make reading some parts confusing. The last book I was confused over timelines this one was with locations. the sisters are on a plane back to the main home in London or the UK somewhere, Katherine states she’s going to throw a party, next scene they’re at the party when Orion shows up. I’m a little confused because isn’t he in NY? Then the raid with the FBI. Isn’t the UK a little out of their jurisdiction ? Anyway, I’m on a serious roll here so I’ll find book five.🙃

AHHHHH the book where Karina finally resurfaces back in Uilleam’s life. What a roller coaster ride it has been for us to finally get here and the anticipation from the last book? Man did it make the moment so much more sweeter! Karina is no longer just the journalist lover that Uilleam remembered her as and boyyy is he in for a surprise. Uilleam is a bit of a mess in this story because that’s the effect Karina has on him. And damn the chemistry between Uilleam and Karina hasn’t even dimmed a bit despite all the years apart. Still sizzling! This really is the book for Karina to shine and steal the spotlight. To see her plans unfold, we finally get to see Karina in a position of power, back in the game before Uilleam even knows he is playing one. We see how Karina has blossomed and the power wielded by Ashworth women.

I love that as much as Karina is trying to teach Uilleam a lesson and destroying his empire, she still wants to protect him from a truth that will destroy him . Anyways, damn these cliffhangers! Can’t wait to see what else there is planned for the pair.

I am going to write this review for all 5 books in the “Kingmaker” series.
It’s been a while since I read a series that kept my attention...even during the slow-moving parts!! But...it definitely kept my attention.

I would give the 5 books 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, but:

1. the ONLY highlights I kept were of the blatant typos/grammatical errors that should have been caught by the writer AND ESPECIALLY BY THE EDITOR!!!! I brushed them off at first, but then it got so bad I had to keep track of a few of them. (See my highlights)
2. I also didn’t like the timeline...it was TOO long. “Two years later”, “Three years later”...I mean, these people were driven and impatient. NO WAY IN HELL would they wait that long for ANYTHING. Also, they pop from country to country like it’s nothing.
3. We didn’t really ever know what her mom did...not really.
4. I needed more to read on his suffering after he fell.
5. She was TOO young and so was he. It wouldn’t have been necessary if TEN years hadn’t have passed through the 5 books. See #2👆🏻

Moving on...what did I love?
* the characters were great...and the ones you want to know more about will have their own books! Bonus!
* the story line was somewhat original...organized crime boss meets journalist...but wait...she’s not what you think!
* the fact that it wasn’t filled with smut. Were there hot scenes?...sure...but that wasn’t the story line at all.

I write this knowing she will probably ruin it with a 6th “happily ever after” book...so I’m giving her the benefit of the doubt. Now, I’m going to read about Skorpion, Syn, Calavera, Red, Celt...and maybe (hopefully) a good ending for Orion and Elsie/Zoran! On to the mercenaries! Yes!

The author said this was meant to be a filler but it is the second book in this series that has had any substantial movement to me. Most importantly, it is the second book I have enjoyed.

While I do not appreciate London Miller reverting to a version of Karina that we can like, I love Uilleam. I do not care who doesn’t like the man. I love him. Absolutely love him. If only for the fact that you never have to question his motives. He is who he is and he makes no apologies. Hell, I couldn’t care less about The Den and its occupants.

However, you can't convince me that Karina spent seven years reinventing herself to the point that she could rival Uilleam. Love has never blinded the man and it would not start now. Pillow talk could not have given her this round.

Still, while I couldn’t care less about them as a couple, I am enjoying the vengeance they cast on each other and I crave his resurgence.

While I don’t care about following anymore side characters, I would for Elsie. Point me to her story!

First, let me gush a little bit. I love this series. I loved this story. I love these characters. I love the twists. I love the DRAMA! And, what I love the most...powerful, smart women!
I have read the Den Series so I could have skipped this book but I wanted to read it. I recommend you read it because it is a good refresher for the events after Black Swan. Also, it is good insight into what Uilleam and Karina are thinking and plotting.
As much as I love Karina, I have a soft spot for Uilleam and it really blossoms after reading this one. I know he deserves it but he is who he is. Karina takes on the role of Belladonna so well but she still has a big heart and you see signs that this is affecting her more than she lets on. The cracks in both their hearts are showing, but who will break first?
I enjoy the path that these two are taking and can’t wait to read the next installment. Awesome work London!

All hail the Queen

I swear to all that is right and just in this world that there is no one that can too the mind games like this author. Every book, and I mean EVERY book, is a game of chess. This series is a culmination of all the separate series out together. Every action, every move, every thought is calculated. To say I'm in awe would be an understatement. Balloting suspense. Heartache for both characters. There are consequences for both of these characters and also the poor secondary characters that were part of both sides.

I need the next book like I need air. THIS is why I love to read. Books and living vicariously through the imagination of writers such as this is why books will always beat movies.

Finally they meet. And he was broken by her. I feel their pain and love and all those shits that hurt. When it get to the point where he know the truth behind her vengeance.. those sucks ass since it hurttssss so bad.. The strongest most feared man in the universe broke down and it justtt ughhhhh.. and the ending wtff I thought this is the last book of the series and turns out there is a to be continued sentence at the very end and I thought I was being played... this is bs... WHEN WILL THE NEXT BOOK BE PUBLISHED???? I will not be able to sleep tonight.. I'm wired up

Man! This series... it’s a rollercoaster ride with all sorts of twists, turns, and dips.

While this book provided some answers to ongoing questions... it definitely created a thousand more.

In other reviews I have seen people talking about how much they ‘hated’ Karina. I can understand why, but shockingly I found myself feeling really really bad for poor confused and frazzled Uilleam. Many many times I was thinking ‘bless his heart’.

Still I think Katherine is the puppeteer creating all of this... but I guess I will learn more in the upcoming books.

I recommend this book if your a fan of London millers books it won’t disappoint in the least
