Featuring the beginning of Ryu's journey around the world, Cammy's quest to discover her past, Chun-Li's investigation into the Shadaloo-controlled Hong Kong underworld, and the first appearance of fan-favorite characters like Adon and Fei Long, this is a story no Street Fighter fan should be without
It's not Shakespeare by any means, but it's compelling. The series does a good job of juggling its selection of archetypal stories while rotating through an extensive rolodex of oversize characters. None of the story threads feel like they're being sidelined or getting undue attention: it's all working together to form the whole, the concept, the product.
And maybe that's where it stumbles, because for as much love for the characters as this series has, it never quite escapes the feeling of being a slightly cynical tie-in. But ignore me (I'm going to to continue to, at the very least): maybe that's just baggage I'm bringing to it. This is leagues better than it has any right to be.
