Readers’ Favorite 5-stars: “If You Love Stephanie Plum, Wait Until You Meet Mina Kitchen!!!”

Perfectly Pickled: "This is my first book by Lizz Lund and let me tell you, it won’t be my last! Filled with quirky characters, hysterical dialogue and a main character who always seems to be surrounded by hijinks, Perfectly Pickled is one of the best cozy mysteries I have read since Janet Evonovich’s Stephanie Plum series.”

Juicy Jersey: “Another delightful cozy mystery from Lizz Lund. I love the Mine Kitchen Cozy Mystery series! Great story with lots of mischief and mayhem! Worth a 5-star rating. Can hardly wait for more stories in this series!”

There’s no such thing as a free lunch… unless you’re Mina Kitchen, and cooked enough brisket barbecue to serve the entire congregation of St. Bart’s with plenty left over—literally.

Tricks-or-treats are in the air, and Halloween is just around the corner, as Mina worries about the financial “tricks” sapping her paycheck working alongside her boyfriend, Chef Jack. Why is it that car repairs, heating issues and vet bills seem to pop up all at once? And where are the “treats” while she and Jack struggle through insane work hours, and barely have time to see each other?

Mina’s pals try to distract her from the recent whack-a-mole theme in her life, when the fickle finger of fate touches her, and Mina becomes an overnight celebrity television chef! She lands a fancy new condo, make-up artist, famous actor co-star and an unbelievable salary. Good-bye, money problems!

Hello corpses. Plural.

The murders are a tad unsettling. And the Mafia-style dead animal warnings are a bit disturbing, too. But what’s a girl to do? The show must go on, right? She shouldn’t let some possible voodoo animal ritual stuff get in her way, no? Or, a psychotic new fan?

Can Mina survive her new rags-to-riches fame? Or will she be another target? And will she be able to avoid any more of Vito and Miriam’s creepy culinary creations?

And how much lasagna should you bake at midnight, just to take the edge off?

Just Really Bad

This book is advertised as a mystery, but there is nothing in it that's treated as worthy of investigation. Yes, bad things happen, but nobody ever bothers to look into these incidents or even report them to the police. They just happen and everyone ignores them. The story is nothing more than a long narrative about the main character getting a new job. No actual detecting ever takes place. There's never any sense of dread, suspense, or even mystery surrounding these events throughout the entire book. I skipped entire chapters, in one case three consecutive chapters, and missed nothing germane to the ostensible "mystery." I went back over them just to be sure. Finally, a good 84% of the way into the story, does something happen that spurs a call to the police. Several pages later, the story comes to a crashing climax that comes completely out of nowhere and is resolved in an absolutely implausible manner. The final nail in the coffin is that just six days later, the main characters figure out the complex scheme of the antagonist all without any investigation and which in the real world would have taken homicide detectives months to unravel. Just amateur writing that has no basis in reality whatsoever. It's a shame, too, because if the author had understood how to structure a plot, the scheme of the antagonist could have been revised of its more inane points and been turned into a decent story as the protagonist gradually uncovers it bit by bit. Sadly, that's not what happens here.

Not to interesting of a story to me . A lot of useless fill in words I think especially at the beginning part. Was a bit boring really till about half way thru it. Mina worked with her boss (her boyfriend) as a assist cook with him , he was the chef. Someone put her name in a contest to host a TV show with a famous cooking show and Mina won. It was out of town. Her boyfriend was not happy about that . He has a big party to get ready for that day & Mina was to help work it. When she got to the TV show that day, everyone ask her where the main TV host lady was . Mina said she should soon be here. Someone at the door then announced that the TV host was found dead. Then these packages with gory things inside with a short note start coming in addressed to Mina. But from who?

I'll give the author credit. I was stunned at who the killer was. Should have seen it, but, nope...I did not.

My problem lies in the fatphobia. The guy IS SO large, he barely fits into the elevator at one time, yet only 1 year, and 100 pounds, he's the "size of a normal person".

There was a second comment during reading that was equally offensive.

If not for the fatphobia, this book would get a 3* review. I won't be reading anymore by this author.

Almost famous

Mina wins a spot on a celebrity cooking show and that’s when things start happening. The death of the star has the producers looking for a replacement and Mina seems to fit the
bill. Can all the perks be real? Looks like she’s made it big time but then strange threats and more deaths follow. Read what happens in a surprising end.

It was an interesting story . Once it finally got going with Mina getting her cooking show . Aggravating thing is she never gets to film one show because of all the murders . And they never clarify whether Chef Fruitcake's ( Penny ) ride on the roller coaster finished her off or not . Other than this , good book .

Just could not put this book down. It was fun, it was quirky, wonderful twists and turns. Great light or beach read. Romance but not sappy. A bit of retired mafia tossed in. Recommend this book!!
