Listened to the audible version. Decent story, but not a whole lot of development of characters. I liked the many encounters the group had going across America, but the characters were flat and had very little development. The dialogue between them was bland. Good narration

What......

.....a FANTASTIC series!!!!! The storyline and characters are very plausible and lifelike!!!! Not a whole lot of action but it's written in such a way that the author keeps the reader glued to story, all the way through. My only dislike is the use of the word 'truck' so MANY times!!! And just for the record, a Blazer/SUV is NOT A TRUCK!!!! LOL. Now, I'll have to wait for the next book to see how the whole trip ends up!!! Will Ben return to Colorado??? Will we ever find out what happened in regards to the EMP's??? Will Joel and Ellie finally tell each other their feelings????? LOL

Great read

It is so realistic that it pulls you in that you don’t want to put it till finished. It’s portrays an apocalyptic time which in reality can happen at any moment. It gives you a look at the different types of people you could encounter in a time like this when there is no law in the land and common sense totally gone for some. Be a prepper just in case things fall apart.

I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest
Great apocalyptic series!
Every time I finished 1 book, I wanted to know what happens next.
Find a nice place to relax, because once you start reading it, you won't want to stop.
I really recommend this series!

This collection of the first five short novels in the series is really good.

The subject matter and plot are exactly what I expected, but the writing quality and general cohesiveness are much better. Ignoring a couple of glaring plot holes / inconsistencies that are even discussed by the main characters early on in the book but never properly explained, the suspension of disbelief required for this one is minimal, and it is a great ride. The end of book 5 is the end of the first big story arc and is a natural place to finish an omnibus. I really hope the author releases future collections of the other books in the series.

Writing quality is excellent, with only a few typos or other little errors here and there, most of which are almost certainly not a lack of writing ability. The author handles planning and plot dissemination through natural dialogue, with characters asking the leader of the group what they'll be doing next and what to expect. It's exceptionally well done.

Audiobook notes: Narration is good, although personally I found the narrator's voice a bit too slow for my liking and listened to most of this one at 1.6x. There's only mild characterisation for voices, but it's enough to easily distinguish who's talking. There is one odd repeated pronunciation quirk, with "snout" being pronounced to rhyme with "boot"rather than with "out" as it should have been, but that's only a very minor niggle.

I'm really impressed!

One harrowing adventure after another carries this book along as a dad, his teen son and a teen girl friend, plus their dog, cross the US to find the man's younger children. The book is as serious as it is touching, as humorous as it is violent. It presents a typical view of what we assume a postapocalyptic world would be like.

This is not for the faint hearted. There is killing and horrific scenes of wrecked vehicles. There are gangs who prey on travelers and there are good people trying to maintain a sane community. It is a fair picture, overall.

If I were to criticize anything it would be how the father and son, and friend, are all so nice all the time. Very little snapping and blowing off steam as would happen in my family. Mistakes are smoothed over without fanfare. That part is a bit unreal for me.

The best part, by far, is the dog and his antics. I love how he is included in the story, often for comic relief, but also as savior in some situations. There are pluses and minuses to traveling with a high energy dog as the story shows time and again.

One of the worst books/series I’ve listened to. No character development, predictable characters and crisis throughout, repetitive, and unrealistic. Who proofed this and said “sounds good”?

Anti-government, yet pro-government. Americans suck and are nothing more than money hungry, depraved, and lazy leeches. The main character constantly feels bad for the deaths he caused, yet he was able to justify every single one. He constantly laments the childhood his kids lost with the attack, but then goes on for paragraphs about how “this is just the world they live in now”. Comes dangerously close to “boys fight, girls need to be protected but gosh darn I’m proud and amazed that the little women could hold their own” line of thinking.

Why did I finish all 15 audio installments? Because I was hoping for better. Because I committed. Because I apparently have nothing better to do with my life.

Don’t bother.

When I started this series I thought there were only five books. When I finished number 5 I was so glad to find out there are 15 of them!
I love that it shows a post apocalyptic place without just jamming violence down your throat. It’s there, of course, but it isn’t the whole point.
I quickly became invested in the characters’ wellbeing (especially Gunner 🐶).
I honestly don’t think I’ve read five books so quickly but I can’t wait to continue the series!

From the very beginning I was hooked. An amazing story that I am sure you will love. This is my second series by this author and I have enjoyed both so very much as I am sure you will as well!

This was a nice little post apocalyptic romp. Even the predictable stuff was fun to read. The military aspects of the book read as very believable. I will definitely see if there are any more books after the end of this collection.

Needs another book!

Very good story, and I reckon Bruno could squeeze out a few more books about Colorado when they returned, as the ending is just a little too abrupt.

I loved this series.

I loved it how entwined with his other aerie and I cared about the characters and was so happy nothing happened to the dog. I was so disappointed it ended.

Well written

Good story no objectionable words or actions, not preachy on survival preparedness. I'm looking forward to the concluding volume(s) soon.

Amazing

Great series with nonstop action. I think the addition of a pet dog really adds interest to the story. One question though to the author is when will Ben run out of coffee?

What a great series

This was a great tale of survival in the worst of times. I'm hoping that it will continue. I just can't get enough of this group.
