Many new believers have questions about what it means to live as a Christian in the context of a local church, and pastors are looking for resources to pass along to their congregations to help them think biblically about the Christian life. 9Marks Church Questions is a new series that seeks to provide ordinary Christians with sound and accessible biblical teaching by answering common questions Christians have about church life. Each volume offers biblical answers and practical applications with the goal of nurturing healthy church practice and commitment. This booklet teaches new Christians the why and how of 7 steps they should take once they believe in Jesus, turning to the Bible for the blueprint for how to thrive as a follower of Jesus.
Super helpful quick read about the foundational ways to live out the Christian faith. It’s written to new believers, but is absolutely what every Christian should be doing and, if someone didn’t get this filler picture when they became a Christian, it’s a great time to hop in and learn what the first steps of discipleship look like.
For years, 9Marks has been producing literature designed to edify and equip leaders in the local church. Church Questions is the most recent project, a set a booklets designed to answer pertinent questions in short bite-sized portions.
What Should I Do Now That I’m a Christian by Sam Emadi suggests that new followers of Christ pursue a eight-fold path as they begin their journey to the Celestial City. Each step is explained along with the biblical rationale. For the purposes of this review, the eight suggestions shall remain untold in order to prompt readers to purchase the book and benefit afresh from Emadi’s counsel.
The great benefit of this series of booklets is the brevity and commitment to biblical authority. The questions are addressed in a forthright manner in clear and unambiguous language. Readers of all ages will benefit from Emadi’s wisdom and would do well to pass this resource to friend who is new to the Christian faith.
I received this book free from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review.
Over the last four years, I’ve been trying to find the perfect book to give to either an unbeliever who is interested in Christianity or a new believer. I’ve found several great contenders, but nothing that I thought really hit the nail on the head.
My search ends here though because this is the book I’ve been looking for.
It explains the gospel clear enough that you could give it to an unbeliever, but it also provides everything a new believer needs to know about getting started with following Jesus. Add to that the fact that this book could be read in less than an hour by most people, and we have a winner.
I highly recommend you read this and then purchase several copies to give to others.
A great call for new believers to follow the biblical model of obeying Christ. In this includes calls to be baptized, join a local body of believers, and find yourself in a place of accountability. This is a great place yo point someone who wants the basics of what to do after coming to Christ.
“What Should I Do Now That I’m a Christian?” by Sam Emadi is an excellent, Scripture-saturated guide for new believers or anyone wanting to refocus their walk with Christ.
Emadi lays out the essential priorities of Christian living: repentance, baptism, joining and loving a local church, growing in prayer and Scripture, discipleship, giving, and evangelism. I loved how practical and clear it was—simple enough for a new believer, yet convicting for someone who’s been in the faith for years.
The book reminded me that the Christian life is not meant to be lived alone—God saves us into a family, not just as individuals. It also challenged me to view Bible reading and prayer as daily spiritual food, not just something for emergencies.
If you’re serious about growing in Christ or helping disciple someone new in the faith, this book is a must-read. Biblical, practical, and God-glorifying.

Whether you’re a new believer or a seasoned saint, I’d highly recommend you to read this book! In just 45 short pages, Emadi provides a clear pathway for new believers as they take their first steps in the faith. In addition to that, this resource is a fantastic reminder for mature believers on the centrality of the local church in their lives and an opportunity to recalibrate if they’ve drifted one way or another from what Scripture commands of all believers.
You won’t regret having this resource in your tool belt of discipleship or for your own spiritual growth and maturity!
Wanted to pre-read before giving it ti a friend. I’d recommend giving this to anyone who is new in the faith, or has been in the faith for a while and would like a good reminder of what we’re saved from and who/what we’re saved to. Big emphasis is on the church and living with the grace of God and His gospel as the motivator for all things. Emphasis on living the Christian life together in a church family. “As we seek to follow Jesus, we should always remember that we’re never called to go it alone. Jesus always gives us His church, and He always promises His presence.” Pg 44
Really fits well the purpose for which it was written. This is just the type of book you want to hand to or read through with someone who has just become a Christian - though you will benefit from being called to regular Christian living as well!
Helpful even for Christians who aren’t new in the faith as it discusses actions that what any Christian should be doing anyway. Emadi relays his thoughts in a very relatable manner making this book an enjoyable easy read.
Short book about what new believers should do to grow in their faith. Very basic but contains all the key components for growing the faith of a new believer.
An excellent resource for a new believer who wants to answer the question, "I'm saved...now what?". Definitely including more copies of this on my resource shelf!
This book is clear, precise, and brief. It wisely lacks much flourish but contains the straightforward basics that books twice or three times the length may contain.
This is a worthwhile read for any pastor and will be a valuable tool when someone asks, "What do I do next?"
This little book was a really good read. Emadi managed to say a lot in a little space. Some may be surprised to find so much emphasis on the local church in such a short book, but that is exactly what new Christians need to hear. The New Testament has no plan for Christian discipleship outside of the local church.
