" What Is the Gospel? Study Guide will capture your mind’s attention and ignite your heart’s affection for the God who saves us by his grace through his gospel for his glory." ― David Platt , Pastor-Teacher, McLean Bible Church; author, Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream What Is the Gospel? This simple question has major implications for both Christians and non-Christians alike. This study guide, together with Greg Gilbert’s best-selling book What Is the Gospel?, will help you answer this important question and apply the gospel to your life.
Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the Goodreads database with this name.
Greg Gilbert (MDiv, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary) is senior pastor at Third Avenue Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky. He is the author of What Is the Gospel?, James: A 12-Week Study, and Who Is Jesus?, and is the co-author (with Kevin DeYoung) of What Is the Mission of the Church?.
This follow-up study guide provides some good questions to help the reader of Gilbert's book understand its contents and begin some serious self-evaluation. I was glad to get my hands on this, as its counterpart has been one of my favorite give-aways. This study guide will be a great conversation starter for those who need to believe the good news, as well as those who need a clearer picture of what exactly they are believing.
Basic questions but still a helpful tool for taking others through this great little summary of the 5 essentials of the gospel. Useful for evangelism and discipleship one-on-one or small groups.
I first encountered this kind of simple summary on Packer’s Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God. Here’s my summary of the 5 essentials of the gospel message:
1. God’s Position 2. Man’s Condition 3. Christ’s Provision 4. Your Conversion 5. New Creation
