The importance of aḥādīth and the Sunnah within the framework of Islam cannot be overemphasized; they are foundational aspects of our belief and practice. There are two primary sources of The Quran and Sunnah. Broadly speaking, the Quran provides us with general rules, principles, morals, values, ethics, and ideas while the Sunnah provides the details. In other words, the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ is a detailed explanation of what is mentioned by Allah ﷻ in the Quran. It is impossible to act upon the Quran, to follow its guidance, teachings, commands, and prohibitions without the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ. This book is a concise text introducing the foundational topics covered in the field of Ḥadīth Studies including preservation, compilation, and classification.

An absolute treasure of a book that should be in every Muslims bookcase, esp if you want to get a small glimpse into the vast scientific world of Hadith. The amount of information packed into the roughly 110 pages is brilliant, and it never gets too high brow, being instantaneously understandable to anyone at any level.

I read this book as a part of my Islamic studies class and it left me wanting to learn more and made the field of hadith less scary and very approachable.
Hadith is a very deep and complex subject. One that confuses many people. As someone who has always questioned what the science of hadith looks like, this book is a treasure. Right from the start, the author begins to give a breakdown of the parts of a hadith and what it looks like. The book also goes in to details of how ahadith were compiled and taught from teachers to students. There are also historical details of some major books of hadith and the major scholars of hadith. Being able to read about these foundational figures of our deen was a treat and I appreciated the author writing it all out in such a easy to read manner. I have yet to come across a hadtih book that made it this easy to understand. Majority of the book goes in to details of the different categories of hadith and how the scholars have classified them. It is truly amazing how much care, concern and thought has gone in to preserving the words of Prophet Muhammad(saw).

Good intro book

For a very brief introduction to Hadith studies, it gives a good grasp of essential information to further study past this book. Don’t expect to get deep into content of the Hadith though, this is more so information about how to study them, not so much what they are. Very easy read and well organized. It is good for what it was designed to do. I was hoping for more content about Hadith, but I understand the scope of this is not what this text was attempting to do. Therefore my study continues! ;)

A simple but clear overview of what could be a difficult topic

I much enjoyed reading this clear and easy to read overview of Hadith studies. I was amazed at the enormous efforts and extreme attention to detail of the early gatherers of the Hadith, especially with regard to the filtering process.

With this age’s rise of Quranists and Hadith & Sunnah doubters, this is a very informative piece of work that clarifies a lot of misconceptions about the Hadith and it’s essential place in Islamic Creed, Shariah, as well as simply influencing a Muslim’s everyday life.

Great for starters like me.

Well worded and brilliant to build upon. Not jargon based but with aim for readers to understand and appreciate the complexity of Hadith studies.
