It’s not every day you have to return to your hometown to bind your borderline-poltergeist grandmother to the family property. Unfortunately, today is that day for Avery Thorn. All Avery wants is to report the binding to the Witch Council so she can fulfill her obligation, but finding a dead body and the Head of the Council on the brink of death isn’t in her plan. Especially when she’s pegged as the number one suspect. Now, it’s down to Avery and her cousins—and her sassy feline familiar—to figure out who tried to murder the Head of the Council. Magically bound to find the culprit, the last thing she needs is the new detective getting under her toes.Unfortunately for her, she finds herself colliding with the hot cop more than she wants. And since her familiar hates him, it’s not always pleasant. New magic and a devastating tragedy threaten to derail their investigations—but not quite as much as the person who isn’t happy they’re involved… (Dangerous Magic is the first book in the Haven Lazy Cozy Mysteries series. Something new. I’ve been thinking about reading a Cozy Mystery for a while. I was so excited when Emma Hart announced this. I feel like she read my mind.

Avery has returned to her hometown. She’s a powerful witch and head of the family. The ghost of her grandmother has been causing havoc around town and it’s her job to rain her in. The problem is this town holds secrets, the kind that could get you killed. Avery has bad timing and right from the start she has a bad feeling. It’s time for some dangerous magic.

This will be a Kindle Unlimited read. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This was something different that ticked the right boxes. Great.

4 Stars for Dangerous Magic!

Witches, weres, fae, oh my!

Dangerous Magic is the first title in new series: Haven Lake Mysteries from author @authoreviehart

The book/series is set in the secret, mysterious town of Haven Lake, which provides a free place for witches, paranormal, supernaturals, etc to live free.

The story opens with main character Avery, as she returns to Haven Lake. She’s lived among humans for some time but is forced home to magically bind her grandmothers ghost to the family land.

Avery is a feisty character that can hold her own. She’s quick witted and doesn’t let anyone or anything stand in her way for the promises she makes and the answers she seeks.

Where there’s witches, there’s magic and familiars. Each a character in their own right. The sass from these animals is epic!

The side characters are entertaining and the flirty banter between two possible love interests was fun to watch. And yes, I say two possible love interests because this story is all about the mystery. It’s about family ties, magic and the town itself - making this title fun, flirty, and yep, clean. (Cant say the series will remain that way, but this book was.)

Saying it’s clean doesn’t take away from the angsty banter that made me smile and giddy with laughs thrown in as I watched the characters spar on the page.

As for the mystery, Hart gave nothing away. I was unable to figure out exactly who was the murderer. The suspects were plenty with motives that could’ve made any of them the killer. Making this a well written mystery that kept me guessing.

A down side? Keeping track of Averys aunts. I had no idea who was who. It was beyond confusing. I tried to keep track of them. Sadly, they blended together.

Since this is the first book in the series Hart sets the tone for future titles. She was able to give a pretty clear view of the town itself, and let’s not forget the personality of the characters and familiars that I look forward to seeing more of in the future.

Im glad this is just the beginning of a series. I have a feeling we’re in for a wild ride. Over all, I enjoyed this book! Was just the read I needed.

Thank you to the author for providing me an ARC copy.

The mystery with magic and witches,.... with touches of weres, fae and vampires! I’m so glad that this is just the beginning of a series because I have a feeling we’re in for a wild ride. Really enjoyed this book!

Was just what I needed.

Full, proper review to follow.

Thank you to the author for providing me an ARC copy for review.

My English review

I love the novels of the author as Emma Hart so when I heard about this new series, I was really very intrigued!

Avery has to go home to bind her grandmother and stop her ghost from terrorizing everyone. It’s already not very easy to manage, but in addition, she finds herself facing a corpse and the leader of witch council who was poisoned. She didn’t expect it, but she’s going to be embarked on a story that is totally beyond her control. Indeed, she will have to discover the truth behind all this and find out what is going on before she becomes a target. But here it is, the sexy cop in town doesn’t seem at all happy to see her meddling in his affairs, and she must also manage powers she didn’t expect to have.

It was a pretty cool novel to read even though I was perhaps expecting something more. The investigation is pleasant and interesting and I was really very curious to find out who was behind it and why. And then there are all these very charming men who revolve around our heroine and I must admit that for the moment, I am curious to see how things will evolve on this side.

So it’s a very nice novel to have a good time!

I had never read or heard about Cozy mysteries until I heard Emma Hart was writing one under the pseudonym Evie Hart. I was curious and excited to read Dangerous Magic, the first book in her Haven Lake Cozy Mysteries. Here we get the story of Avery, a witch with a grandmother has been causing chaos in her hometown. Suddenly she is thrown right in the middle of a mystery and at odds with a local detective.

I enjoyed reading Dangerous Magic by Evie Hart. It was fun story with great characters. A paranormal/mystery with unique characters and storyline. I am looking forward to reading more from both this author and in this series.

4.5-stars. Happy reading.

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

Dangerous Magic is the first book in a brand-new paranormal mystery series by Evie Hart. The Haven Lake Cozy Mysteries series brings us a world full of supernaturals, mystery, and laughter.

"I was weird. I was powerful. I was potentially unpredictably dangerous. I just wanted to take off my pants and watch Netflix without Wi-Fi dropping its signal."

Avery returns home to Haven Lake in order to bind her crazy ghost grandmother to their home because she's been being a nuisance around town. Before she knows it she finds herself smack dab in the middle of a murder investigation. While trying to find out who the murderer is she discovers she has hidden magic that is more powerful than she could ever imagine. Working with her familiar and her cousins, she has to solve the mystery without stepping on the local detectives toes or angering any one in the paranormal community. It helps that said detective and the paranormals she encounters are easy on the eyes.

"All I'm sayin' is that in the last twenty-four hours, I bound a ghost, found a dead body, an almost dead body, and got accused of murder."

Witches, Shifters, Fae ✔ talking animals ✔ crazy relatives✔ sarcastic banter ✔ these are just a few of the aspects that made this a great read. The characters are well-developed and Evie Hart creates a great community for them, I loved the small town vibes and everyone knowing everyones business. The story was fun, sassy, and flirty. It was a bit much that each paranormal faction had an attractive male that was instantly smitten with our lead Avery and it didn't have much to do with the plot progression. I do foresee a very slow burn connection growing between her and the detective which is something to look forward to.

If you love cozy mysteries and fancy the paranormal than I would definitely give Dangerous Magic by Evie Hart a go. It was a great start to series and I'm excited for more books to come.

"We now had six grown women, one-ten-year-old boy, one ghost grandma, five cats, a macaw in the house. It sounded like the start of a really bad joke, except there was no punch line."

***5 ‘Thorn Family’ Stars***

I don’t read many mysteries, much less cozy ones, but when one of my fav authors announced that she was going to dip her toes into this realm I was all for tagging along and I was not disappointed. This book had all the crazy goodness I’ve come to love from the author just based in a different setting. It was a fun read with a ton of crazy, unique characters that I want to get to know a hell of a lot better.

Avery is the epicenter of this story and I loved her. She’s a little spitfire: sassy, snarky, witty and can hold her own against anyone, but she also cares deeply for her family and her word is her bond. She has a few issues to overcome, but is overall a great person and one I’m looking forward to getting to know better as the series progresses.

This was a great first in series read. Having Avery become a tentative detective was a great way to introduce the world, town and the varied and unique inhabitants of Haven Lake without it feeling like an information dump was happening. It all felt natural and made for a great read and kept me on my toes as to who the culprit was. As for the question of romance in the story...as this is a cozy mystery, it is very much in the background, but there is interest and possibility going on and the build up is going to be a lot of fun!

So, if you’re looking for a cozy mystery set in a town inhabited by various paranormal beings and a family of crazy, caring and powerful witches & their familiars with a knack for making the gossip circles, then this is a definite must read for you!

Writing as Evie Hart, Emma dips into the paranormal suspense category with the start of this series, and this book just set this series up for major success! Avery has returned home to Haven Lake per an obligation from the council regarding her grandmother. When arriving home, she knows she won’t be going back to her other life, and it’s solidified when she stumbles upon a dead body her second day back. Throughout the course of this book, Avery witnesses another murder during her time trying to find who the actual killer is. A good portion of the beginning of this book is establishing the premise of the Thorn family and the background of the town and Avery’s interactions within it. While this book was longer than a typical one, it made sense as to provide the background information to better understand the book. After finishing this book, I am certain that Emma Hart can write anything and still captivate me while keeping me on my toes. This book kept me on the edge of my seat and I can’t wait for the next installment. Also – starting a petition to ship Dax and Avery…Dary anyone?!

I’m a lover of PNR and supernatural stories. And I was not disappointed here!

Evie Hart wove a magical world filled with everything you want and need. She did such an amazing job building up this whole community that I’d wish it were real so I could go live there.

Avery Thorn was everything I wanted and needed in a heroine. Hands down awesome!

We see this story through her eyes, and I wonder if we will get the others just her POV or if we get to see a certain hot detective’s thoughts as well.

This story was full of twist and turns and who done it!

I laughed as much as I was at the edge of my seat with anxiety!

No spoilers but I will say this, it’s always who you least expect it!

Looking forward to the next stories in this series!

Such a fun, cute read, it reminds me of Charmed or Practical Magic. I love the characters; the familiars were my favourite, they were quite amusing.
I definitely recommend this if you want a cute paranormal cozy mystery.

Evie Hart a.k.a Emma Hart diving back into the world of mysteries? Yes, please!!
This book had everything I've come to love and enjoy from Hart. From the crazy grandmother who is a ghost to beautiful me — fae and wizards alike — to bat-shit crazy familiars, I loved reading this cozy mystery.

Avery Thorn comes from a long line of powerful witches and add to that her own powers and spitfire attitude, she is a force to be reckoned with. She is sassy, snarky and witty and when she finds herself in the centre of a murder, she is tasked to find the killer and thus ensues the revelation and unravelling of town and clan secrets which eventually leads to Avery finding out the truth about herself.

Hart uses Avery through which the story is told and plus point of having just point of view was that we really get into the details of the Thorn family, the town and its people who I might add are super interesting, especially a certain fae and werewolf. Oh! Add in the hot cop to the mix too! So many beautiful paranormal beings! *sigh*

Dangerous Magic was a great first read and set the tone for the future books that are to come in this series.

If PNR/Fantasy is your thing and if you are in the mood for a mystery that will keep you guessing until the end, look no further! This book kept me on my toes until the end and I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series.

Evie Harts debut novel is nothing short of phenomenal!

Its Nancy drew meets the vampire diaries with a bit of Sabrina the teenager witch thrown in!

For years all I've read is Romance but when I came across Dangerous Magic I just knew I had to read it! The cover is something magical, and if that doesnt draw you in the words will!

There is one thing that I love to see in a book, it's a main character that is sassy and sarcastic! The Thorn witches are that and so much more! Avery Thorn is a girl after my own heart though! She is everything I could have asked for in a heroine. With so many suitors chasing Avery I am very curious to see how her love life will play out.

This story kept me on the edge of my seat! I laughted a lot, felt a little hopeless at time, and attempted to figure out who did it! I never saw the end coming though!

Always expect the unexpected!

I am looking forward to what is coming next for the town of Haven Lake!

This book is amazing, I like Emma Hart’s books, but I LOVE the mystery book! It’s funny, interesting, it has romance and cocky characters. The h doesn’t take s*** from anyone and I love that she knows how she is, she knows what she wants and is not afraid to say or do whatever it takes to whoever she needs to.

I can’t wait to read the next book and I hope she continues to write more mysteries!

Recensione:

Review:

Avery Thorn is back. She was happy with her normal life but his granny is a walking disaster even being a ghost. She has to bind her to her own house because the Witch Council ordered it and being the only owner of the house she has to accomplish it.  After reporting the binding she found two bodies : one dead of the Head of Council's assistant and the second one of Head herself. Now she has the responsability to find out who did it. In the meanwhile she has to avoid to be killed herself  to save the City from a war between werevolves and faes and also to protect hera heart form two many suitors. Please enjoy the fantasy background of this story with a little bit of thriller and alof of sass from one of the most talentous writer we know.

Paranormal comedy has its perks. In this novel, such thing is a posh cat with a British accent. Because, what else would fit better? :-D

The author has poured her outstanding wit in this new series of paranormal romantic comedies with stimulating results. Dangerous Magic embraces the world of witches, ghosts and talking animals that blends cozy mystery, life issues and sharp humour. Imagine Charmed meets Agatha Christie with a pinch of Desperate Housewives ;-)

A magical town that serves as a sanctuary for paranormal creatures is the stage for this cozy mystery. I had a great time thanks to the sarcastic writing style and the crazy atmosphere. Avery Thorn is back in town where her ancestors kind of rule because of their unprecedented magical powers. Witches, shapeshifters and vampires crawl Haven Lake in civilized terms. However, a gruesome murder with too many loopholes as to the motives puts the peace at risk.

Not only do sparks come out of Avery's fingers, but they also happen thanks to the provocative chemistry between the snarky witch and the persistent, too-handsome-for-his-own-good detective Dax Sanders.

The story grabbed my magination because magic occurs at every minute in everyday situations, mixing ordinary domestic life with the more otherwoldly events going on. Magical barriers, tracking spells, talking familiars with an attitude and insufferable ghosts, all gallop in a funny trot along with a baffling mystery that has the little town in upheaval.

I found the irreverent dialogues quite entertaining, and the petty animals take as much space as the witches. On the other hand, Avery's heritage proves to be a promising source of surprises.

As she tries to harness her powers, the local murder, racial politics and more handsome men that a male runway, Avery Thorn's first adventure turns out to be a force of nature. I fell in love with the animals and the domestic dynamics of this family of witches. The ending solves itself in a traditional fashion with as much fun and feistiness as the rest of the book. And I admit that all the chemistry generated among the paranormal races had me anticipating the next crazy installment in this series. And hopefully with a little more heat between Dax and Avery? :-D Well done, Miss Hart.

’m not going to go into how long it took to read it, as I’m dealing with some family health issues that has made it hard to concentrate, as of late. This too is why my reviews are so far behind the releases. I hope you, our passengers, can hang with me until I can get back on my feet. I promise you’ll see more reviews, it’s just taking me longer to get through books.

This is a cutesy story, that leaves a smile on your face long after the last page is read. It also makes you want more. There is not great scary mystery in this one, just a lot of fun had by people who live in a protected town who all have gifts and abilities that make it hard to fit in with the non magical world. Evie gives us a great town full of ripe, full of life personalities that could all be guilty. I can see where this series will have the legs to go on for quite sometime in the future and keep readers engaged.

Avery is supposed to be the strongest witch in Haven Lake, she comes from a long line of powerful witches, only she doesn’t know how to use the power yet…This is where the hunk of a hot detective comes into play. He helps her gain some insight even as he plays with her while she is knee deep in his investigation. Also, she is always one step behind him and he loves to remind her of that. This love interest gets better when he discovers another has his eyes set on Avery. Will it be a love triangle or will she choose? We’ll have to keep reading to find that out.

The mystery was fun. I mean, who doesn’t love a good poisoning…It’s like Arsenic and Old Lace…Such a classic way to go, I mean Cary Grant was so handsome in that one. Back to this mystery though. She uses this mystery to introduce the town folk, the inner workings of the town, and the factions of magical folk that are all fighting for their place in town. It really works well and introduces you to all the main players.

I’m giving this a 4 of 5 and can’t wait to read the next one when it comes out. There’s not release date yet, but I’m sure we won’t have to wait too long. Emma Hart went all out creating this alter ego and it works. I will definitely be reading more.

Ever since I saw the cover for this book I was so excited to give this a read, it’s got one of those covers that makes you want to just sit there all cosy on a winter’s night and honestly, those are my favourite type of books. The cover draws you in so much, even though it’s a little simple, sometimes that’s all you need a cover to be to draw you in and for me, Evie nailed that perfectly. This book has everything you could want in a book, there’s character development, an intriguing storyline, sizzling chemistry, what more could you ask for? I love the way Dax and Avery are together, they may not be a couple or anything, but they way they treat each other is hilarious. They are seriously amazing characters and I can’t wait to see how their relationship develops as I’m sure it’ll be an interesting one with the way he is constantly offending her and getting in her way. I’m excited to see what else Evie can write and take this series as just from reading this one alone, she’s set the bar quite high for herself.

Avery is back in town thanks to her grandmother….. everything seems normal until you realise that one Avery’s grandmother is up to causing chaos whilst in ghost form and that she’s had to bound her to the family house until the Council declare that she can be free….. The only issues are that Avery is a witch and as she’s placed the binding spell, she’s not allowed to leave the town otherwise the spell breaks. All Avery has ever wanted was to be able to be free and do as she wishes as she doesn’t feel like the other witches, but her life changes before her when she ends up finding a dead body and the Head Of The Council on the bridge of death….. Will she be able to help figure out who did this or is she set to get hurt along the way?

‘Dangerous Magic’ is the new book by Evie Hart, and I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely loved this book! It had been a while since I’d read any paranormal/ mystery books, so this was the perfect treat to mix up my reading genres.

The book is about Avery Thorn, a witch who has returned back to Haven Lake to bind her unruly Grandmother Cherry Thorn. Cherry is the matriarch of the family, and despite being deceased, has decided to cause mischief around town. She is unapologetic and when the high witch council orders her to be bound to her home, Avery is the one for the job. Unfortunately, the binding spell means that Avery is forced to remain in Haven Lake until the council removes the binding, but when she discovers a body and another attempted murder, Avery takes it upon herself to find out ‘who done it?’

The book has a bit of everything, it has witches, talking animals, shapeshifters and elves. It is fun, exciting and some of the jokes and one liners are hilarious. I really liked Avery as a character and the drama of her family kept me entertained. I love how her cat Snow is super sassy, and that her Grandmother takes great interest in her love life.

It was a great book with a good twist at the end. I would recommend to all mystery lovers, and anyone who enjoys books about witches. It is refreshing, unique and I am so excited to read the next book in the series ‘Reckless Magic’.

I am also intrigued to see who Avery makes her main love interest, will it be super hot elf Orion or brooding detective Dax Sanders?!

This book is certainly a must read! I loved it.

Haven Lake is a very special town. It is populated by paranormals of all varieties. A special ward only allows paranormals to enter. Avery Thorn has been living in the normal world for the past two years. She is a witch and is able to mask her powers enough to live among humans. Now she has been called back home to Haven Lake to bind her grandmother's ghost to the family property. Grandma Cherry's ghost has been running wild and wreaking havoc in Haven Lake annoying lots of its inhabitants. So she must be bound. Avery does her duty and heads to the offices of the Witch Council to document the binding. What she finds there is horrifying - the dead body of a werecat and the witch who is the Head of the Council near death. When the Head Witch recovers she tasks Avery with finding the murderer. Not an easy task! Along the way she manages to butt heads with the new detective in town, Dax Sanders. Did I mention that he is super hot and sexy? Who will end up solving the murder, Avery or Detective Dax Sanders?

Dangerous Magic is the debut cozy mystery novel of Evie Hart. In Romance Land she is known as Emma Hart. This story is an excellent first in the Haven Lake Cozy Mystery series. The story is full of humor with lots of laughter throughout. The characters are fun, well-thought-out and the dialogue is very entertaining. Evie Hart has a winner in this book. She's got me hooked. I am really looking forward to what Avery and her compatriots get up to in the next book in this series. Bravo Evie Hart! Keep 'em coming!

In DANGEROUS MAGIC, author Emma Hart has brought together three of my favorite things...cozy mysteries, paranormal reads, and, well, Emma Hart! This first book in the new Haven Lake Cozy Mystery Series is a great combination of mystery, my love of the realm of magic, and a touch of romance. Reminding me of the Holly Woods Files, but with a twist, this book was an enjoyable page turner that I did not want to put down.

Avery Thorn is everything that I've come to expect in any of Emma's heroines. Strong, sassy, take no prisoner attitude with strong ties to her family, Avery is back in Haven Lake to take care of her errant and irascible grandma. While there, Avery is drawn into solving a crime that has rocked Haven Lake to its very roots, and pits witch against shifter against elf.

I have long loved the cozy mystery genre, and Emma, writing as Evie Hart, has done such a fun and engaging job of creating this new world for her readers. This book is the perfect blend of laugh-out-loud hijinks and repartee, and a whodunnit that kept me guessing, with plenty of the strong family bond that makes Emma's books so great. I was hooked from the first page, and completely invested in the story. My only regret is that I have to wait a couple of months to see what shenanigans Avery and crew get up to in the future, but, when the time comes, I will be ready to happily visit Haven Lake again.

I adore Emma Hart so when I heard that she was writing under her "paranormal cozy-mystery-writing alter-ego" Evie Hart I was so EXCITED! I read the blurb and was hooked. I was so ready to see a different side to Emma Hart and I WAS AMAZED.

Romance will always be my favorite genre, but mysteries and paranormal comes in a close second. I thought this book was perfect from front to back.

When I met the sassy and fiery witch Avery Thorn, I knew this would be one of the most memorable reads of 2019. I loved her character and the familial aspect of the story. The first time we meet Avery, she is binding her ghost of a grandmother to their family home. She is returning to her hometown and is having mixed emotions. She is happy to see her family and friends, but now she has to deal with everyone being in her business. It comes with the territory of living in a small town.

Her return is even more highlighted after Avery finds a dead body and the Head of the Witch Council is hanging on by a thread. And she is the prime suspect.

Avery is determined to find out who did this and enlists the help of her family and familiars. And it is eventful.

I have to give Dangerous Magic 5 stars. It was mysterious, suspenseful, humorous. Evie Hart gave us the perfect lead character in Avery Thorn. Her fierce and fiery personality is THE BEST. I will try to patiently wait for Reckless Magic (book 2) even though I WANT IT NOW lol.

Dangerous Magic is the first book in the Haven Lake Cozy Mysteries series and it's written by Evie Hart. As some of you might know, Evie Hart is a pen name for Emma Hart, but this book does not fall in the same category as Emma's usual books do, so a pen name if fitting. As you have guessed by the title and cover, our heroine is a witch and magic is real. The lore includes other supernatural creatures, but I won't reveal what they are.

There is no solid romance for Avery, but I hope that she will ditch the elf and go for Dax. They have some interesting interactions and I feel like they are a good fit. Also, they could solve murders together and be a power couple. I know I shouldn't have immediately jumped to the romance part, but this is the most burning question for me. I don't want to see a love triangle in book two. Avery is coming to terms about everything that has to do with her magic and I believe that we will see her use it more and more. I loved the cat and the bat (you can see both on the cover) and they were funny in their own ways.

The story was good and interesting. I liked what the author did with this paranormal world and I can't wait to explore it more in the upcoming books. It's different from most and I would recommend it to everyone, even to those who are reluctant to read a paranormal novel.

The peeing cat and the British bat

Terrific. Lighthearted, easy read that has a great plot running through it. Written in such a way that the humour and seriousness of the plot has you chuckling whilst trying to figure out how she will get out of the mess she has landed in. A precocious cat and an extremely proper English accented bat are her familiars and their byplay is wonderful. As is the rest of the opinionated familiars banter that is skillfully woven into the plot. Whilst the characters are colourful, vivid and so real you can picture it. Plus our heroine, who is single, suddenly finds herself the object of interest of three alpha type males. Each different but each has a different charm.
She has come to bind the ghost of her Grandmother to the family home. (She has been causing trouble around town even though she's dead.) Reporting the success of this venture has her finding one dead body, one close to death, a handsome detective, a gorgeous elf, a virile shifter and an assassin. When the first attempt fails another is successful and now there are two murders to investigate. Can she find out why, without casting any more viagara, spells and whilst learning how to use a new magic that has suddenly emerged?

It's been a hot minute since I've read a paranormal story, and this particular book was just the thing I needed to get me back into the swing of all things supernatural and paranormal. A fantastic debut novel from an established romance author using a pseudonym, it was easy to get wrapped up in this story of Haven Lake, Georgia and the unique population that calls the magical town home. I liked that the town was home to all types of magical and paranormal beings: from witches to vampires to shapeshifters, and they all resided in harmony. For the most part. Because you know, a murder does occur.

Avery's got her work cut out for her after being given a directive from the Betty Lou Harper, Head of the Witch Council in regards to the incident that occurred targeting Betty Lou. Unfortunately for Avery, that directive seems to have her working somewhat with her seemingly least favorite person, Detective Dax Sanders. But of course the more they spend together attempting to solve the mystery, feelings begin to change, and I loved seeing how their semi-legit partnership began to evolve.

I'm loving Evie Hart dipping her toes into the paranormal/cozy mystery genre, and I'm looking forward to reading more about the unique town of Haven Lake and the quirky residents who live there.

It’s been a LOOOOOONG time since I read anything paranormal, much less anything that wasn’t completely revolves around an epic love story. This new book by Evie Hart threw me back into that world that I didn’t even know I missed.

Avery had to come back home. It was basically a family emergency. She had to bound her grandma to the family property. Did I mention her grandma is in ghost form? Yep, you read that correctly. The Thorn family is full of witches, all with different specialties if you will. But because her grandma has basically been terrorizing some in the town, Avery had no choice. Just when Avery goes to tell the council does she stumble upon what starts this whole mystery.

Feisty, quirky women. That’s what the Thorn family is made of. This author writes some of my all-time favorite romances. They’re typically funny and spicy, and they are epically unforgettable. Now that she’s dipped her toes into the paranormal world, I can officially say that these are going to be some of my favorites as well. Maybe she’s a witch with a talent of writing absolutely perfect stories, no matter what the genre. It’s definitely something to think about.

Usually paranormal is something I avoid, it’s really not my thing but as this was Emma Hart’s alter ego I decided to give it a go. I still can’t believe how hooked I was and how much I enjoyed the book.
I loved the characters and in true Hart style we still had a crazy relative in the story to gives the reader plenty laugh out loud moments. Although my favourite character was our heroine, Avery, her sassy attitude and witty remarks had me wishing I was in the story with her. Her return to her home town to get her havoc causing grandma under control gives her a bad feeling but it isn’t long before her magic finds its way through her and encounters with certain males has her feeling like she isn’t leaving her home town again.
The story was enticing and I genuinely had to keep reading because I had to know more.
At first the talking animals (familiars) were the only thing I thought was maybe a bit too out there for me but as the book went I found them to be hilarious, particularly Snow and her attitude, I grew to love her.
I’m so excited for the next instalment and have found a bit of a new passion for Evie’s stories.

What a phenomenal start to this new series and new Genre from Emma Hart writing as Evie Hart.

Soon as you start you will be hooked, amused and intrigued and unable to put this book down.

Avery has had to return to her hometown as shes a powerful witch and the head of her family. The council have ordered her grandmothers ghost to be bonded to their house as she has been causing all sorts of havoc in town.

Unfortunately for Avery she stumbles across a murder and ends up being part of the investigation putting her in danger and in the crosshairs of a hot witch detective Dax.

For the beginning of a series I have been left completely enamoured with Haven Lake and wanting to read more of Avery and her families antics as the relationships and banters between her relatives and their Familiars is entertaining and humerous.

I can't wait to see what she brings us next from this series.

Soooo.... I usually don’t read or like paranormal books at all. But this book by Evie Hart aka well known Emma Hart, I couldn’t let the opportunity to read this get past me.

And what can I say? I loved. I freaking loved it. All the snark and sass in it. Fabulous. I was chuckling almost through the whole book.

Avery came back home to Heaven Lake after living in the normal human world for a few years. Because she needed to spell bound her ghost grandma to the house.

Dax is the hot young police officer, who’s investigating the murder - the one where Avery found the body.

They keep coming up at the same spaces as they both are trying to find the murderer. And keep throwing insults with a lot of snark at each other.

I think, this book is a fresh idea, funny, some flirting in it - because you know the saying: what teases that loves itself!

I can’t wait for the next book!

I kindly received an arc for an honest review

For a paranormal debut Evie Hart has smashed it out of the park. I have enjoyed every word I have read. The Thorn family are the perfect sassy feisty women you want to have in your life. The familial bond is heart warming and hilarious. The small town dynamic makes you feel right at home. The possible love interests are intriguing and leaves some questions as to where this will all be going next. I did not want this book to finish and love/hate the blurb from book two because I wasn’t ready to jump back into the real world!

A great book to immerse yourself into and disconnect for the time it takes to binge read this funny mystery paranormal.
