Chip Zdarsky is a Canadian comic book artist and journalist. He was born Steve Murray but is known by his fan base as Chip Zdarsky, and occasionally Todd Diamond. He writes and illustrates an advice column called Extremely Bad Advice for the Canadian national newspaper National Post's The Ampersand, their pop culture section's online edition. He is also the creator of Prison Funnies and Monster Cops.

Right when #2 was making me a bit meh about the whole Life Story and why do we need another retelling.. Zdarsky is out-Zdarskying himself. He simply makes Peter Parker real. So, yeah! I'm fully on board again!

With this story, I love how Zdarsky takes the Spider-Man history and spins it in a new way. Very creative. This book was pretty sad but showed some real life aspects with Peter, MJ, May and the kids. Although I loved the book, my only nitpick is Peter is like 35 here talking about I’m too old, too weak. Like C’mon son, you ain’t that damn old. Lmao!!

Spider-Man's true life. A constant battle of darkness, guilt and the classic Parker Bad luck curse. Good story. I'm enjoying this series storyline retelling.

The thing I hate most about superhero narratives is the perpetual adolescence. I don’t just mean of age, but of maturity or responsibility. No wives or children or truly steady jobs. Everything is sacrificed for the adolescent hero fantasy. Examining this seems like an obvious place for this to go and I’m glad Zdarsky has done so so well. This really examines the way Peter’s poor-me attitude and habit of taking on too much of the wrong kind of responsibility would play out over the course of a life. Excited to read the next.

Aunque la historia ya va entrando en el terreno donde debería sacar mayor provecho, continúa sin convencer. Como en el capítulo anterior el reparto de personajes secundarios brilla mientras que se desaprovecha a Peter. Sí, se va haciendo más viejo como se ha prometido pero sin ser relevante.
Dado que estas historias funcionan solas, espero que Chip Zdarsky logre mejores resultados en los siguientes números.

"It's May! She's wondered off...with the babies!"

This decade started off very relatable since my grandma is the same age as Aunt May in this book (90) and has dementia. I can't say I know what it's like for my partner to be missing for 3 weeks while expecting babies though...so MJ got it pretty rough in the 80s.

The Kraven/symbiote/cold war parts of this tale are also great and I look forward to the 90s.

I’m sorry, someone recommended this for Spider-Man: Brand New Day and I hope the comic’s content stays within its pages because it was pure horror! The Secret War, the suffering of poor Vision and Peter getting cold-blooded murdered for Venom’s rise were truly disturbing. Throughout the comic I couldn’t help but feel sorry for MJ.

Just outstanding stuff here, I love the way this series takes established spider-man character dynamics from decades of comic history and flips them on their head. His relationship with MJ is really doomed from the start and it’s not shocking at all that it ends up the way it does. The use of Kraven and Venom here are also excellent, really enjoying this limited run.

Super cool idea for a story. Love how political it gets and how Captain America fights against the US in the Vietnam War. It’s a great highlights run of Spider-Man with a lot of great moments but it doesn’t feel especially meaningful on it’s own
