Finding my brother

Hank had come home to Tennessee from the war. He did not know what he was going to do. His brother had left the family to go out west to find gold. He was never heard of after a letter in 64. Hank headed west. He met many people good and bad. He helped the good. He often had to kill the bad. He met a brother and sister in the trail. He was going to Utah. They were going to Oregon. He had just about given up finding his brother. When the girl from the trail found him. She had been waiting for him. Then her brother found his brother. The story just keeps getting better.

KILL OR BE KILLED

Henry Lewis Hankins(Hank), has just returned home from the"War Of Aggression, " which he named, even though his family never owned slaves, he felt he had to join the Confederate Army not because he believed in slavery, but he didn't like the idea of the "Yankees" coming South telling them how they should live.
Seth Hankins his brother, left to seek his fortune mining silver. Hank's parents hadn't heard from
Seth in two years, they would get a letter twice a year from him, then they just stopped. So Hank tells his parents he's going to Nevada to search the mining camps for his brother.
So Hank and his "Cash" his pal(horse) leave eastern Tennessee to search for his brother. During his search Hank relied a lot on his military training to save himself from the many hold-up
gangs/men who in the past way -laid a lot of unsuspecting folks.
He locates his brother and he also gets married.
The U.S.Marshal swore him in and for a while he utilized that law to break up a corrupt city council which may have included the attorney general of Nevada accepting bribes, judges who over look any infractions committed or just dropped the charges.
Hank and Lila adopt a little boy named Wilie whose him is in a bordello, where the Madame would lock him in a closet at night and the cook would let him out during the day. That was the life this little five year old faced.
While your reading this western, you get a picture of how life was. This author also has tibits of historical facts about the territories which eventually become states. You Wil enjoy how close the Hankin families are. They are mountain folks who take care of their own. Also the author gives a little background how white folks picked tobacco, cured it in a tobacco barn and then sold it for cash. I know that's true because when I visited my family in the South I participated in this process, didn't last long, I got nauseous because of the concentration of tobacco smell.
Great reading and enjoyment, Hank and his wife Lila are people to ride the river with. Cash his horse is formidable fighter who has helped Hank a lot, saved his life a few times. ENJOY

Lost in the old west

This story brings to mind the number of people who simply disappeared in the West, never to be seen or heard from again by their families, through violence, accident, disease or on purpose. Even the chance of a letter being lost or never reaching a person so easily and often happened, and changed the course of lives forever. It gives us an appreciation of the modes of communication and transportation we now take so easily for granted. Mr. Lane’s writing reminds us.
Sometimes the forward push of the story becomes a little like, “and then this is what happened, an then this is what.......” The book would benefit by a strong, experienced editor to keep the rambling to a minimum and that always makes for a stronger work. In addition, the descriptions, development and POV of various characters could be strengthened so that the reader is drawn even closer into the story giving us more of that illusion of seeing/feeling it for ourselves.

I hope Lane Novels don’t run out!

I love starting an authors book list when he’s written many and you can go from one to another immediately. I thought this book might let us touch base with Milo Hankins and all his uncles and off spring but no such luck. I guess there’s quite a few of them all around the U.S. They are a big clan. There is no messing with the heroes of a R.O Lane book! Hank cleans up a threatening mess of many corrupt, paid off villains in the mining town of Pioche, NV. He runs into this corrupt town while searching for his long lost, older brother, Seth. Interesting story to find his brother has long term amnesia from a robbery and terrible hit to his head. What is really hard to believe is that his wife’s brother runs into him in another state and writes a letter mentioning his name before Hank gives up the search. A cute little orphan boy is rescued as well. Love the mean one -man stallion!

Hank: A Western

You know when you read a good book cover to cover in a single day, you’re got a great one. Live it. Not only did Hank serve as a volunteer in the Confederacy, he also took to heart a promise made to his Ma to find his older brother that left home many years before and lost contact. Hank followed the leads to the last known location and after searching months without any leads, marries a girl he met on the adventure West and finds who he suspects is his nephew that gas been abandoned by his mother. That led to another discovery by his wife that indicated his lost older brother is also found and in completely different locale many days away from where he is currently located. Anyone that has traveled the US knows, travel by horseback is long and grueling and when there are no roads, even more so.

Hank, the book is outstanding!!

If I were allowed a complaint, it would be that the book needed to be longer. The story was riveting. The characters interesting and we'll rounded. Hank, the man was someone I would have loved to be friends with. He was honest, decent, caring, trustworthy and wise.

I was not so impressed with Lila's brother Seth in the beginning. How do you leave your sister alone to who knows what possible danger. True it worked out well in the end (although I'm not too sure Hank should entrust his own sister Donna with Seth, after Seth abandoned Lila.

I rate this book as five stars.

Life's journey

I have now read 3 of your books and really like them. Each book has been a page turner. I was raised on a dairy farm. We had milk and beef cattle that I gathered up the dairy cattle everyday after school and headed to the barn on a horse. We had 4 horses. Things changed when my parents passed and I went to work for Southern Railway. We lived and worked in Columbia, Spartanburg and Charleston SC before retiring after 4 years in Atlanta, Georgia

Through your books I remember things I have encountered. Thank you

5 STARS, MAN WHO KNEW RIGHT & NEVER TOLERATED WRONG

Hank earned 5 STARS for its fu!l exciting storyline with excellent & interesting characters. Action packed & loaded with shoot-em-up action, also with a lot of territory described for the time period this was written for. Especially a lot about Yellowstone.

Hank left the Smokey Mts & went west to see the country & to see if he could locate his oldest brother who had went to the gold fields before the civil war started but his parents just quit hearing from him abruptly about 3 years or so ago.

Wonderful read! RECOMMENDED

Good read and adventure

This book flowed well, the action was well thought of and you didn't have time to second guess what should be happening because you were trying to keep up! Nice change of storytelling pattern for so much to be told from the female character point of view as well. Hank reminded me of Tell Sackett from Louis LaMour, he didn't look for it but he handled trouble head on. Great hero and heroine with Lila.

Henry (Hank) Hankins went off to fight for the Confederate States in the Civil war when he returned to east Tennessee which was pro-union he didn't get the best welcome. He went west to search for his older brother who had disappeared and found romance and lots of trouble.

Quiet hero

Henry Hankins is a unassuming man with values and extraordinary courage. This is a fast moving tale of a brother's search for his lost brother. Yet he not only friends his brother but in the process he finds his true love and a young boy to love as well. The corruption of the lawless West is a dramatic backdrop for this lively story. Enjoy!

Hank goes west searching for his brother

Hank,a Civil War veteran goes looking to find his brother Seth. When he finds him, he has to save him from people who want his silver mine. The is a lot of political graft. Hank has to separate the good from the bad. He finds a wife and an orphan nephew. Lots of excitement.

Wonderful story !

The story line moved along at a good pace. Kept me interested in what would happen next. The action was good but not too gory, which I appreciated , also not overly detailed descriptions on the violence, which I also appreciated . Just a really good story that I didn't want to end .

Hank: A Western

R.O. Lane can certainly spin a yarn. Hank is one of the best stories I have read in a while. I would encourage all of you Cowboy fans to read this book. Hank is a no nonsense type of man that meets trouble head on. His stint in the civil war proved to serve him well. You cowboys and cowgirls will enjoy this read. So, "Giddy Up.""

Excellent western!

Another good story from the author! R.O., you have a rare gift, keep on writing! John Ringo is another of my favorite writers. If you folks out there have trouble spelling "author", remember the symbol for gold is "au" and then the Norse thunder God "Thor". I hope that it's correct, I feel like a dummy often enough.

Lawlessness, love, and a touch of history

This was interesting to me because the story originated in Wears Valley TN, near Pigeon Forge. That area is near and dear to my heart.
It does point out the bad feelings that sadly still tend to exist in some areas, between North and South.

One of the author's best!

Ok so he wasn't a cowboy but he was awesome just the same! And the stallion, well, him and and cute little boy stole the storyline! Couldn't help but feel bad for his brother. For a tiny piece of my family history, my great grandfather was born in a house made of chestnut wood without a single iron nail in Tennessee!

Hank

This was a relatively good story. The problem I had with it was the main character was not only a hero but a super hero, he was in the right place at the right time, knew when someone was going to shoot at him, etc, etc.

HANK and His Family

I loved this story. It is clean hold true to the story line. There is so much love her. First for HANK from Lila and then for Willie from both of them. I can hardly wait for Willie to grow. I believe Seth will get his member back.

Great read!!!

Thoroughly enjoyed this book by Mister Lane. Have read others of his, and look forward to more of them. The lack of typos astounds me, since most of this type of tale are filled with them. Keep on writing!! I'm ready for a new one!
