Modern Royals #2

The Princess Pose

Rate this book

A modern princess. A charming commoner. Can they hurdle tradition to find true love?

Princess Elizabeth “Liz” of York isn’t interested in a fairy tale life. Determined to use her elite platform to champion children’s causes, she’d much rather raise awareness than find her prince. If only she could stop picturing one certain gardener with vivid hazel eyes…

When the relentless paparazzi invade her space, Liz’s crush comes to her rescue and steals her heart. Tossing aside centuries of tradition for something real, she takes Roman’s calloused hand and braces for the backlash. But after her progressive approach ruffles, more than a few feathers, one member of the monarchy vows to keep the princess locked in her stylish but decidedly ivory tower.

Can Liz break through her birthright to find a powerful kind of love?

The Princess Pose is the second standalone book in the charming Modern Royals romantic comedy series. If you like strong heroines, determined love, and lots of laughs, then you’ll adore Aven Ellis’s sweet tale.

Who would willingly want to be a princess?! Princesses are extravagant. They are of the utmost beauty. They are wealthy. They can make changes. That all sounds wonderful and quite fascinating, but at the same time, princesses born into royalty are…utterly lonely. You would think that they would have all of the attention that they could ever want, but when it comes down to it…living in the limelight all of the time is very lonely and no one can ever really see underneath the title. The public will see the princess and royalty, but do they really see what makes them happy or what their deepest and darkest secrets are? No, not really unless they flaunt it openly to the public. Ellis has a magical and swoon-worthy romantic comedy that will leave readers earnestly awaiting the next royal character’s love story.

Princess Elizabeth of York is quite wonderful to all except the queen. She is a champion for children’s causes, she is kind and follows the rules exceptionally well…that is until one sexy gardener catches her eye. Not being of royal title, Liz knows that she would be taking a chance if she let him take her heart. While she isn't too thrilled to plunge into a romance, knowing that Roman may reject her flat out once the paparazzi sinks their claws into him, there is a connection that she desperately wants to explore. And if that isn’t enough to turn him away from her, her family will quite surely do the remaining honors. She just knows that there is absolutely no love worth that torment, but there is that inkling in the back of her mind that hopes beyond a sliver of a doubt that just maybe, she is worth that fight. Can their love for each other be that powerful?

Ellis has a magical and funny royal romance that readers will just eat right up! The characters are well developed. Most of them are quirky, imperfect, charming and loveable, allowing readers to truly relate to and understand their personalities and insecurities. Will he/she love me for who I am? Will he/she care what my family thinks of him/her? Will I be enough? Most of the aspects within this standalone are common fears, but have been heightened to accommodate nobility risks. Ellis ties everything in together at a steady pace; however, Emmes’ vocal relay is magnificent. She is able to draw readers in to each scene using clear and on-point accents along with lively character vocal differentiation throughout her storytelling. The Princess Pose is the second installment within the Modern Royals Series; however, each book can be read as a standalone since they focus on different characters within the royal family instead of a continuous story of one character.  If you love romantic comedies and chick lit, this may be something that you’ll want to give a try.

I really wanted to love this one. Sadly, the best I can do is 2.5 stars. The L word happened literally within a week of meeting each other, and while instalove happens, not THAT fast. Coupled with some of the dialog I just can't for the life of me believe any man would spew....A great idea that didn't work.

*Book provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review*

With The Princess Pose Aven Ellis’ ma A Modern Royalsseries goes into round two. We already know the main character Liz, because she was in the first book and meet Roman, the gardener, in that story too.

She is Xander’s, Christian’s and James’ cousin. She has two sister Victoria and Bella. Liz lives at Kensington Palace as well and is a working royal, she really knows what she wants and loves looking after children.

Liz is not interested in men, until she meets Roman. She can’t get him out of her head. Time passes, but he is still I her head. Roman works at Cheltham house, where there are yoga classes held. One day Liz goes there and he kind of saves her from the paparazzi.

That’s when they hit it off, very quickly. They start spending a lot of time with each other immediately and sparks are definitely flying. They have a real and deep connection and I loved seeing their relationship develop. It was a bit fast for my taste, but I still enjoyed all their special moments and scenes. I think Aven Ellis’ captured that beautifully.

Liz is a very modern royal and doesn’t want to follow the rules. Especially the queen doesn’t like that. Xander, Christian and also Arthur, the king, have her back though. How will Roman react to all the attention and the reactions?! Her family is intense, we saw how difficult it was for Clementine.

I loved seeing the gang together again. They are such a great bunch, always there for each other and I can’t wait for each of their stories. I’m most excited about Xander, because he is the future king and we get some hints in this book.

The feelings and emotions in this book seem so genuine and it felt like being in Liz’s head. Liz is a fabulous character, who fights for what she wants. There was still a moment, when I really wanted to shake her. Roman is great too. I’d definitely take him, if Liz doesn’t want him anymore ;).

The epilogue wasn’t really to my taste, because it is always the same and the time frame just seems abrupt.

I still adore Aven Ellis’ writing style and I can’t wait for the next book. She only used British terms, which makes this so much more real. Her royal world is very well thought out and I love that other characters get their story told as well.

Magical!

Princess Liz has spent months thinking about Roman, the man she met months ago but who left a lasting impression. Deciding to chance a meeting, she runs into Roman at his work and he ends up rescuing her from the paparazzi. When they both confess to thinking of the other, they decide to see if they can have a relationship. But can they really find and keep love when they come from such different world?

I met both Liz and Roman in the first book in the series and saw that instant spark of attraction so I was so excited to see that they were the main characters for the second book in this royalty romance series. It was also really great to see that both characters went into the relationship with eyes wide open, knowing that their relationship was not going to be easy but willing to give it a shot anyway. Roman was the strong silent type with a heart of gold and a core of sensitivity and Liz was spunky and compassionate, yet had a tendency to overthink everything. Not to give too much away, but the book was full or romance, love, and tons of drama and the best HEA that I could have wanted.

Zander was one of my favorite characters from the first book and reinforced my feelings in this story as well. I really, really need the next book to be Zander finding love. I enjoyed that we get to see Clementine and Christian get closer to their happily ever after in the background of Roman and Liz finding love. Each book is a standalone romance, but it is nice to read the series in order so that we get to meet all the characters since they do tie together. As a side note, there are so many great side characters that I hope I get to see more of later, and yes Darcy is right up at the top.

The narrator is the same as from the fist book and did a great job of giving these two characters brand new voices all their own. I would easily listen to her narrate more romance books in the future because she really brought the drama and feels to the surface.
I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Aven Ellis. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

3.5/5

I'm a bit disappointed in how Liz and Roman's story turned out. Liz was great in book 1 and so good with Amelia's story! But in her own? Oof, I didn't like her. I found her to be immature and a bit controlling. How she reacted to Roman's feelings, his fears, the threats from Antonia, and everything else. She had so many people she could have asked for help, Clem and Christian being the one who would've given the best advice! She seriously dropped the ball!

Roman, I'm not sure my feelings for him either. He reacted and insulted Liz before allowing her to explain. I didn't feel they were ready for a relationship in the limelight. There were so many misunderstandings and miscommunication with Roman and Liz. All they had to do was sit down and have an honest conversation. Things Clem and Christian did.

Liz had a lot of people on her side, and she never once asked for their help. That, to me, showed her immaturity in regards to Roman. She knew Xander and Christian could help her. She knew she could go to Arthur. He literally asked her point blank to open up.

The ending, though, was sweet. I do think they work together as long as they continue to be honest and open with each other. A lot of their issues would have been resolved had they just done that. The side characters were the star of the show! Jillian and Helene made me smile so much with their antics!

Get ready for more royal drama! After graduating, Liz became the first cousin to take a job in the royal family. She has dreams of really using her platform to make a difference, and she doesn’t have the stress of taking the throne to affect her. Roman is a gardener who used to work with Clementine, and while he became friends with her, he had no idea that he would meet the royals, let alone fall in love with one. When Liz met Roman, she was instantly intrigued by him but because of her status she wasn’t sure if things would or could ever happen with him. Thanks to a yoga class, Liz and Roman get their chance, and while they start to see each other and get to know each other in private, things are somewhat taken out of their hands thanks to the queen and her feelings towards Liz being involved with a commoner as a working royal. The chemistry between these two was such a great read and I was rooting for them the entire time. I was intrigued as to why Aven decided to follow up with Liz’s book rather than Christian’s brothers, but either way I actually really enjoyed this story and am excited to see who’s next!

I really enjoyed this book. Liz and Roman may come from two different worlds, but they work well together as a couple. Liz is very down-to-earth and Roman is more than willing to put up with the royal family and the press in order to be with her. Their chemistry was obviously in the first book in the series, A Royal Shade of Blue, but it's off the charts here.

It's obvious the author really does her research into the royals and their protocols, which adds a layer of authenticity to the story. As a reader, I really appreciate she takes the time to get the facts right.

I can't wait to read Xander's book. If Queen Antonia had an issue with Roman, I can't wait to see what she's going to have to say about the person Xander ends up with.

If you haven't read anything by Aven Ellis before, I highly recommend you give this book a try.

I feel like I need to find all the elegant words to write about Liz and Roman but I can't find them, so I'll just gush a little, or a lot.

I love this book so much. Liz is the perfect modern royal and Roman is so damn swoony. I loved being able to catch up with the squad. Liz is the perfect balance of fierce and vulnerable and all I want to do is be her friend and cheer her on.

Miss Ellis takes us into the world of the Royals in a way I feel like I'm actually walking the halls of BP with the characters.

Catching up with all my old faves now has be doing a reread on Clem and CP in hopes to distract me from waiting for Xander's story which I need RIGHT NOW.

I adored this book.

I wanted just a sweet, royal + commoner romance and I got it with this book. The writing is great and kept me reading, I finished the book in less than a day - I couldn’t put it down!

It’s not particularly complex and there’s nothing surprising but it’s just a comfortable, light read that brings all the warm fuzzies. There a little heat too, though I’d maybe call this more fade-to-black style.

The love is insta-love but it works so well. It just sucks you into their little romantic world and connection.

If you want a good old solid romance with all the lovey feels, this is it. Really enjoyed it, my first read from this author and series, and am going to read the others!

Audiobook review
Book two of this very enjoyable series by Aven Ellis about Prince and princess falling in love with commoners. The laughs and humour will continue with Princess Elizabeth “Liz” of York and Roman Lawler the estate gardener of pretiques Cheltham house in London. It was love at first time for these two both we have met in the first book.
The narrator of this audiobook is Aven Ellis I enjoyed her adaptation of this audiobook just a much as the first one. There are many different characters in this book to which the narrator did a great job of telling us this story. This Narrator has a list of many audiobooks to her name and does the British accent very well.

Liz is the niece to the King of England in this Romantic comedy about modern-day Royals. She is a modern princess she works for the Royal family helping with children's charities and events, she is also trying to change the world's view of the monarchy and at the same time change the stuffy traditions of the older members of the royal family. She wants to follow her heart a heart that fulls for a common man, a sexy, handsome, trustworthy, confident gardener she meets at the Cheltham house after attending yoga in book one.

Roman loves in his job at Cheltham house one because he gets to work with his beloved grandfather but also the freedom and joy he gets from gardening. What will happen when the girls he meets and like is a Princess? How will he ever fit into her world?

The chemistry between these two is very sweet and sexy but most of all you can feel its genuine. Liz knows what life in the royal family means, never being out of the public eye but his this something she wants for Roman? She has seen what it does to her cousins Xander, Christian but will Roman still want to see her when the reality of her world hits him. Can she protect him from the paparazzi and her very difficult Aunt Queen Antonia?

Will love be enough?

I would recommend both of the audiobook version by Aven Ellis and narrated by Aven Ellis.

It was easy to fall in love with this fairytale because Aven Ellis’ writing is just like reading a Hallmark royalty movie and I adore it! THE PRINCESS POSE is about Liz’s love story, but I love that it still incorporates the characters from first book in the MODERN ROYALS series. It is completely a stand-alone, which perfect for this light-hearted, fluffy, sweet read that will make you smile and happy especially if you are all about the royal love like me!

Princess Elizabeth “Liz” York isn’t interested in the fairytale life and uses her life to be a working royal rather than find love, until it finds her with Roman, a gardener who has never been in the limelight.

The Princess Pose - This is the second book in Modern Royals series, by Aven Ellis. I had the amazing privilege of listening this book back-to-back with the first book, Royal Shade of Blue. You do not need to read the first book to read this one. However, you totally should because it's amazing.

Liz is the cousin of Christian Chadwick, which is the royal from the previous book. Her story is just as adorable and enthralling as the first book. We have a slightly deeper glance at royal living. And as Liz begins to explain Roman's character, we can understand that she is not an ordinary royal. She is definiteyl different, much like her cousin, Christian.

I enjoyed Roman's character, even if not as much as I enjoyed Christian. But he was still wonderful and he worked with Liz really well. They are are "MFEO"

Once again, Andrea Emmes brings the characters to life. In this book, Andrea narrates from Liz's perspective and give her a unique voice. The audio was exceptional. I have no complaints.

Book 2 is The Princess Pose and stars Princess Elizabeth with Roman Lawler, a gardener that she met thru her newly engaged best friend and cousin in law to be, Clementine. She met him and crushed super hard on him but can a gardener fall for a princess and have a happily ever after? This story centered on love, can it last? In this book we explore the secrets of the York family and in the previous book we saw the secrets of the Chadwicks. I liked the first book so much more. I think that was because I fell in love instantly with Clementine and I never really felt that Liz's voice carried this story well. The author wrote in the first person but this story really needed Roman's voice as well.

I received a complimentary early release copy of this e-book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I received this book for free from the Author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Thank you to Aven for my copy of this book. As you might know, I am a HUGE fan of Aven and her writing style. This is the second book in the modern Royals series but it could be read as standalone.

This book follows Liz and Roman. Liz and Roman met briefly in A Royal Shade of Blue (book 1) but in this book we see them interact properly for the first time.

Liz is not in direct line for the throne and is the niece to the current King and Queen. Liz has fought hard to still be a working Royal because she wants to use per position to help young people as much as possible. She is very passionate about her causes and is very strong-willed.

Roman is a gardener at Cheltham House estate. Roman is gorgeous. He is smart, he is hardworking, he is super genuine as well. Roman is super easy to fall in love with. While he is a private man he is willing to put up with anything for Liz.

I have to mention Roman's cousin Darcy. He has stolen my heart and I pray that Aven will write him his own book.

Aven takes her research seriously and that comes across in the book. Aven researches not only all the Royal protocol but the locations and the language. As Liz is English, Aven made the decision to write the book in English over American English and as a fellow Brit, I was excited by this.

I said this in my review of the first book but I love love love the squad! I love that they are trying to modernise the royals and make themselves more relevant. I can't wait for Xander's story which I think is the next in this series!

Loved, loved, loved this book!! I have been looking forward to Liz’s story since she was mentioned in the first book. Roman is the perfect partner for her. They let each other be themselves and grow while supporting each other 100%. I love that this author does such research into her books with the surroundings, buildings, monarchy. But I especially love that Ms. Ellis used British English when telling her story. I think it gives an authenticity to the book and shows the effort she went through to get the details right.
And the romance, well I am not sure falling in love can be any more amazing than these two.

Harry and Megan watch out.. Lizzie and Roman have arrived. Lizzie is part of the Monarchy but she is definitely not one to follow the rules.. A chance encounter last year with Roman, a gardener, makes her want to get to know him better.. When she finally does something to see him again she is not disappointed.. He is just as handsome as ever and she is smitten.. When he admits he has been thinking of her too they embark on a journey of love but will the royal way of life be something Roman can deal with .. Life is not easy for either of them but their love is strong enough, right?

We get a good look at Xander, the heir to the throne in this story and I can't wait to read his book

The Princess Pose is the second installment from A Modern Royals by Aven Ellis. I enjoyed the first book of the series, A Royal Shade of Blue and this one does not disappoint. I loved getting to know Liz more in this one. Her and Roman had great chemistry right from the start. I had the pleasure of listening to the audio version of this book. I loved how Andrea Emmes was able to bring this book to life. Her performance was fabulous.

I give The Princess Pose five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy a sweet romance loaded with delight, fun and giggles.

This is the second book in the Modern Royals Series, a Romantic Comedy. You can listen to this story as a standalone, but I highly recommend you listen to the first book before. I love this sweet and romantic Royal Series! Liz and Roman's story is beautifully written. They come from different worlds, a princess and a gardener, and they share an instant attraction/love and a strong chemistry. Liz is the cousin of Christian from the first book. I loved to see again the previous characters from the first book. Andrea Emmes did an amazing job with the narration. I enjoyed my listening. Good Royal Story

I liked this book although I think I liked book one just a little bit more. I absolutely hated quite a bit of the royal family and this book has the same horrible villain as book one did. The young royals made up for the horrible older ones though. Some of the older ones weren't bad either. Over and above that, I loved the love interest for the princess, Roman. He is treated horribly but never loses sight of his love for his princess, Lizzie. He's pretty much a perfect book boyfriend. Lizzie has a lot of angst, but loves her gardener. It's a pretty simple story and I enjoyed it. It's an adult read but perfectly okay for ages 15 plus.

Aven Ellis never disappoints. She has once again created multi-dimensional characters who experience joy and hardships and still come out on top. Roman is the sweetest, but Liz takes a bit of a divergence from typical Aven Ellis heroines. She is fierce and bold and stands up for herself right from the start of this book. I absolutely love the bond between the royal cousins and the King. Once again villainous royalty abound and ensure the reader has to root for the couple. A great, single-sitting read yet again!

I am so glad Aven has ventured into the world of the royals. As a major royals enthusiast, these books are like getting a glimpse of what the real royals' lives are like. I loved getting to read about Liz and Roman. I was seriously rooting for them to get together in the last book and I am glad we got to watch it play out. I also loved how Aven set the time of year they meet during Christmas. It was seriously like a book version of a Hallmark Christmas movie (my weakness.) So if you love the royal family and Hallmark movies, I highly recommend reading this book!

this was such a lighthearted read! roman has to have one of the kindest hearts and paired with liz?! it’s a match made in heaven. I love how the author went more into the royalty dynamic so now we have seen both povs in the series (commoner & royalty). I get where christian was coming from a lot more now. also, can I just note that adding in all the pride and prejudice references was such a nice touch…definitely made my heart *zing*. the only thing I didn’t like was the conflict at the end felt too similar to christian and clementine’s but beggar’s can’t be choosers ;)

Liz was introduced in the first Royals book but comes back with her own Royal story. Liz is a modern princess who wants to focus on her causes, but pushes societal restrictions when she starts dating Roman, the gardner. I enjoy how Aven puts a twist on her Royals but the characters remind us so much of the British aristocracy we all love. I love Aven Ellis books and this one does not disappoint.

I am all about the royals. I love reading this series and comparing it to the real British royal family. I know it is impeccably researched and can feel the authenticity of England through the pages. I'm glad we continuously get updates about Christian and Clementine's stories and I can't wait to read about Xander's in the next book! Princess Liz of York is niece to the king and queen and cousin to the Prince of Wales and his two brothers. She has recently graduated from Oxford and come to live in a "cottage" at Kensington Palace, the better to execute her schedule of royal duties for the crown. Liz enjoys sending her time visiting charities, serving on boards, helping children and just generally spreading goodwill for The Firm. She's never had much patience for men, however, and is therefore stunned when she is instantly attracted to the gardener who cares for the grounds at her cousin's fiancee's place of employment. Being a modern royal, she goes to yoga classes where she can run into him again and is surprised to discover that he was equally taken with her. The romance that ensues is heartwarming, and then glimpse into more or less what the actual British royal family experiences is intriguing. The life of privilege is not all that it is cut out to be. Luckily for Liz, her uncle the king is on her side even when the queen is decidedly not, and the press eventually finds her choices delightful.

Addicting! Can't wait for Xander's story.

Pulled me in with Christian and Clementine 's story of love. Who doesn't love a good story about an American falling in love with an English royal? Liz and Romans story continued the modernization of a commoner and a princess falling in love. Can't wait to see what's in store for the future King and this modern squad of royals, breaking tradition and finding their own path to love.
